They made bootleg whisky during prohibition in Templeton, IA. Purportedly, Templeton Rye was Al Capone's favorite.
I like Moscow Mules. That Irish pub in the Haymarket makes a great one. Not a huge fan of Kentucky mules
I enjoy most mules outside of a Mexican mule. Moscows are the original and are excellent with Tito’s being my go to for the vodka. I enjoy an Irish mule made with Jameson myself. Mules are soooo simple to make that a bartender that can’t make a descent one shouldn’t be behind the bar. Although there are those bars that try incredibley hard to be original that they add a bunch of ingredients to be different. Also stay away from Brickway’s ginger beer as it is terrible. They make some good beer, I really like the vanilla coffee stout, but the ginger beer is awful.
Evan Williams is about the only "cheap" bourbon I'll drink since I really got into it. I like the KSU analogy, much better than it has any right to be. I just bought some of their Honey Bourbon. To a bourbon snob I'm sure it is too artificially sweet and all that jazz, but darn if it isn't nice on the rocks on a hot day. I know some people like Jim Beam for a cheaper option, but I'd take Williams over Beam every time.

If you're mixing with something like Coke that masks most the bourbon you can get any $15 bourbon. If you're going to make a cocktail like a Manhattan or Old Fashioned I'd go with Buffalo Trace or get a decent rye like Bulleit. I wouldn't go any cheaper and BT is an excellent value. For sipping, Four Rose's or Eagle Rare are great bargains.
