How about a local product from Newark:
Italian Cheeseburger, half burgers with American cheese, fried onions, fried peppers, and French fries? Technically its not a cheeseburger or a fat sandwich.

To me, any sandwich with fries on it would be considered a fat sandwich, no? And as stated in the rules, we aren't counting burgers for this draft.

OK... no problem... Now I will make the pick that I'm shocked that No one chose yet. Might not be the 5 star, consensus All American but this pick can become the steady, 15 year kicker who's clutch:

THE BUTTERED ROLL

Explain. Is it more than a roll that is buttered? Is it a regional sandwich that I'm just not aware of? We may need a vote on this one to see if it qualifies as a sandwich, depending on your answer.

I've never been for a Primanti Bros sandwich, but I've seen enough of them on TV, etc.

What exactly separates them from a fat sandwich?

Because they were invented 50+ years earlier, so they should not have to be put under the "fat sandwich" umbrella, IMO. And I love fat sandwiches.

44th Pick: Turkey Club

Here is a little info on the formation of the Club from one of my favorite comedians, Mitch Hedberg

THE BUTTERED ROLL
The City Bakery on Easton Ave use to make a salt stick that was great with butter. It was about like a 6" long roll with seeds on top that gave it a salty taste. Walk into the back of the bakery at 1 am and get them right out of the oven. Great bread products.

So people in LA or PR don't eat buttered rolls with coffee in the morning or lunchtime? Why spreads like PB&J is allowed but better isn't allowed. Hey, your list... whatever.

I'm not trying to hate, just curious if others would consider butter as a sandwich maker.

I may have to go down there for that. Best bread for me is the Portuguese rolls and French Bread from Calandras off of Bloomfield Ave, Newark. Slap some butter on either on while it's warm with some Cafe Bustelo on a Sunday morning... WINNAH!!!

Okay.. how about buttered bread with sugar on it? As a kid I remember that from someone, somewhere.. surprisingly good.. not suggesting it for this list though and think a buttered roll doesn't belong either. Nor my childhood invention of salami and grape jelly.. weird.. but good... not for the list.

I just came back to the thread to make sure Monte Cristo made it... and grilled cheese of course.. don't think slight variations matter... like grilled cheese and ham/tomato.. fantastic but not different enough.. not liverwurst and raw onion and mayo.. not different enough. Nor changing breads... just assume the best bread used.

Yeah, one of my go to snacks was always toast, buttered, with cinnamon and brown sugar. Not a sandwich but a great option to eat.

47th Pick: Egg Salad

Three more picks to get to 50 and then we'll start debating the list more.

Not sure it is entirely different than some of the above.. but how about a typical panini?

48: panini with salami, mortadella, tomatoes and lettuce

and lets complete the parms with ..

49: veal parm
50: eggplant parm

Or feel free to sub in my old brunchy-after-drinking order at Kelly's in Neptune.. The Sligo.. its like a turkey ruben.. open faced "sandwich".. with a mountain of turkey completely covered with melted swiss... eh.. that's not a sandwich.

fair enough?

And one more,
Scrambled egg, green pepper on a warm hoagie roll with some hot sauce. Sometimes with sausage too. Not necessarily a breakfast sandwich.

City Bakery is long gone (or am I thinking of a different bakery?)

Since Pizza Rolls is on the list, how about Pepperoni Rolls? Ask anyone from West Virginia how good they are.

Or just a plain old EGG AND CHEESE on a roll since you have like 4 parm sandwiches in your list?
