If your preferred cut is filet, Wagyu isn't for you. And btw...it's not like your eating big globs of fat. The fat is evenly distributed throughout the steak. The meat melts in your mouth... literally.
Yes, filet is more my style which is on the other end of the fat spectrum! However, I know plenty of folks that swear by Wagyu. They love it.

Costco ribeye. As mentioned they have prime and choice, I think it is worth the extra money for the more expensive cut

Costco and Sam’s have prime steaks available every day. So far I’m pretty happy with Sam’s offerings, usually NY strip steaks for $ 9-12 /lb cooked on the grill.

A few Amish markets here in SW FL also sell prime beef steaks. Seems like there’s a spot market for prime steaks that can be bought and sold by retailers, a good thing for consumers.

Has anyone been to Cote? It is extremely highly regarded but most say not worth the hype. Its on my list.

St. Ansalem is my top choice, but River Palm Terrace can compete with anyone in the city.

Plus they actually offer a Windmill hotdog on their lunch menu!!!

Made steak tacos tonight with flank steak from Costco - was pretty darn tasty with grilled veggies and black beans. Very good quality meat IMO.

Wagyu is very good but somewhat overvalued. Give me a quality Porterhouse , Ribeye , Filet Mignon or another relatively unknown steak the Hanger steak or butcher’s choice . Learned that from my uncle and aunt who owned a butcher shop in Livingston back in the 50’s and 60’s. As long as it’s Prime grade and prepared properly nothing beats a quality piece of beef.

Since you've never eaten Wagyu A5, I'm not sure how you dismiss it as silly. I've had prime beef, and there is no comparison. Would you eat a pound of crème brûlée, or a pound of butter? Eating a pound of Wagyu solo is gluttonous, it would make you sick, and would ruin the experience.

You're completely ignoring the difference in fat content between Japanese wagyu and typical American steaks. I've heard the former is comparable to a thick steak-cut hunk of bacon. And when it's three figures a pound ...no reason to over stuff yourself.

From what I've see on line, the Wagyu beef has about 348 calories and 38 g of fat per 100 g serving (3.6 oz), while a rib-eye steak in the US generally has about 256 calories and 21 g of fat per 100 g serving and bacon has 417 calories and 40 g of fat per 100 g. So, yes, Wagyu is more like bacon, fat/calorie-wise and I've eaten up to a pound of good bacon a few times, although I much more often eat 1/2 pound, because I'm usually eating it with eggs or on a sandwich (and I eat it barely cooked, as the fat is the best part), so maybe a pound of the Wagyu would be a little more than I'd eat, but if it's as good as advertised, I would think I'd want at least 3/4 of a pound. Can't imagine it making me feel sick. Just asked my son and he agreed - it's now on our list to do, lol.

Whites Market in Barnegat Light is actually a butcher shop that sells other things as well. I grilled 2 x 14 oz prime Delmonico steaks tonight (They use the old fashioned name Delmonico for their ribeye). Sometimes I get the end cap ribeye (heavenly). I keep it simple - Salt and pepper, and I put a hunk of unsalted butter on top while they are resting.

pS - American Waygu is pretty damn good steak

Never thought to stop there - pass it all the time. Better than Okie’s in Surf City?

Was just talking about this - Japanese surf and turf is on top of my food bucket list.

From RU#s. I discovered the local butcher (Nick's Meat Depot in Edison) and their steaks, veal chops, lamb chops, chicken wings and even pork hot dogs and ground short rib burgers are amazing, but our favorite are the NY strip steak

Love Nicks. Growing up my Grandfather owned a butcher shop on the border of hillside and elizabeth. Nicks reminds me of him and his shop I highly recommend spending the extra money and finding a local butcher for your meats

@Zappa your Dad was at my Grandfathers shop at least once.... my grandfather had a picture of him, Phil Rizzuto and himself behind the counter Phil and his wife were frequent customers of the shop

Nice to hear this....I know Nick (and his partner Pat in Scotch Plains location is my best friend), check them both out for quality meats.

I've never had Wagyu, but for my money, the rib eye caps at Costco are hard to beat. Costco rolls the cap into a nice round shape. I have cut my own cap off of a whole rib eye and liked it even more more left flat and cooked over high heat.

Ok funny this was brought up, The best steak I have ever has was a Japanese a-5 wine wagyu. The beef is fed with leftover grapes from wine. The marbling is insane, JMO A-5 is overrated , too fatty rich. I love the wagyu pichana cut. I recently had a 90 day drunken dry aged bone in prime rib. They dry aged it with whisky and rum drizzled on the meat. I thought the funk would be too much but I actually loved it.
If anyone has facebook and would like to gamble on steaks send me a message lol. It's basically picking a number from 0-9. winner is determined by the illinios fireball. Each spot is determined by the cut of meat and its price. The a-5 wine wagyu I had was 42 per spot. So essentially 2 pounds was 420 shipped. So 10 spots broken down to 42 per spot. They have a bunch of different steaks, pork, lamb, and seafood. I just bid on steaks.

If anyone wants to buy direct , Snake River farms, Butcher and block, and Meat Artisan offers really good steaks if you want to splurge. Definitely expensive.

How do I post pics on here?

Been to most of them over the years. Had an office half a block from sparks with many client dinners. Always good. Though, I prefer The Old Homestead. I’ve had plenty of seafood at both too and always great. Not a fan on anything like blue cheese on my steaks though.
Del Frisco’s is another favorite but maybe it has to do with the little black dresses...lol

and 1 lb for 4??? Not caring how rich, it doesn’t compute

The fat content is absurd, it really does make you full. You don't need much to feel satiated. I once had a 10 oz strip A-5 wagyu and I just couldn't finish it. And YES you know me I can eat lol.
