Spit can contain diseases and bacteria. Just like urine or fecal matter. And I have no doubt you’d be screaming for an arrest in that situation.

That’s the law. Period. And he’s old enough to know that behavior is not acceptable.

And it should show on his record. He’s over 18. He’s a LEGAL adult. I wouldn’t want to hire someone like this. And have my business be liable for this hothead. I've never in my life heard of anyone being arrested for spitting at someone.
I know for a fact nobody was getting arrested for it in the 60's and 70's. If you called the cops on someone for spitting on you, you would have your soft as* whipped.

solid point, I think the difference may be that generally it is player spitting on another player and in that case the other player can generally retaliate in some manner and a fight breaks out, sort of a mutual combat situation. When it is a fan though they can't really jump on the court and fight the player.
