I think the Pelicans received the same gift after AD was sent to LA. I’m sure totally coincidental😬

As a Mavs fan, the NBA is definitely rigged. I stopped watching the NBA as soon as the world's worst trade went down. It doesn't make up for it to get the number one pick. I mean yay. It's not the same. The mavs fans got totally f*****

Lakers and Celtics are OUT already. Golden State about to get bounced.

Not rigged!

The NBA can tilt things, but not everything all the time. Sometimes the play on the court decides things, to the league’s office dismay.

Yeah, both things can be true. Certain aspects are clearly rigged to some degree. Doesn't mean it's 100% rigged. Even pro wrestling has some elements that are real

Dallas getting gifted the #1 pick makes the Luca trade make a lot more sense.
Pay back for Luca and trying to get the flopper to another finals with his son on the team.

Seems legit.

Also remember this. Dallas had new ownership not long ago. She wanted to move the team and being a contender and already in a good market the NBA did not want it. So she trades the best player and wants to tank the team so down the road she can move the team. Now the NBA makes sure that will not happen.

Both are pretty plausible in the NBA rigged league.

I've definitely heard that theory. The theory I've heard recently that makes more sense to me is that TV ratings for the NBA were way down ahead of the playoffs and the NBA needed the Lakers to get in. So, the deal is made to make that happen, and in return, the Mavs get the #1 pick.

Maybe it's both? I can't imagine the NBA not having a team in Vegas at some point in the future. That lady can move the team there sometime down the road, but in the meantime, the NBA needs her to pay a few dues along the way. Kind of a rookie owner hazing thing.

I'm sure we'll never know, but there is definitely enough smoke that there has to be some fire.

Not even the lowest odds ever to get the #1 pick.... People and conspiracy theories, lol.

It's not that to me. It's the Luka trade part of it. Of course there are going to be outliers on the odds. People win the powerball all the time with much worse odds. But pair it with the Luka trade that initially made zero sense to anyone on the planet, and all the sudden it makes sense and it's way too much of a coincidence. And I'm farrrrrrr from a conspiracy theorist.

I'm not aure the Mavericks move the needle enough for the NBA to rig them to get Cooper...and Luca showed why he was traded in the playoffs. I think people are adding 2 and 2 and getting 5

Yep .now if the Lakers would have done something special in the playoffs. Then you could make a case the NBA ā€œarrangedā€œ the lottery pick for Dallas trading Luca.

NBA has been struggling with ratings for over a decade. And getting worse with the NFL starting to take over arguably the NBA,s best game day of the year on Christmas Day.

Yeah, but I think I heard their round one ratings were way up, largely due to the Lakers. Lending credence to that conspiracy theory.

If they went back to the bingo balls and did it publicly there would be no debate. They don’t do that any more for a reason.

Naw people would still cry foul unless everyone saw every teams bingo balls and watched the team put there's into it. Actually that would make for fun television if they went to such lengths.

Personally I don't care about tanking and think worst team should get number 1 pick every year. Eliminate the question marks. Does make for food commentary though.

I'd think Bron Bron would still be playing and GS wouldn't be down 3-1 if that were the case but anything is possible.
LA is in trouble. An aging star in LeBron and a younger, out-of-shape, often hurt, younger star in Luca who has no interest in playing defense. Some NBA analysts are saying Luca could walk away from the Lakers via free agency, too. (Of course there is hope, the Laker fans can always wait for the 2026-27 season when Bryce James joins his father and brother on the team.)

When I hear things like the NBA likes scoring and wants to feature its stars, then you know that, to a degree, it is rigged. When stars get most of the calls and a great team has stars in their prime, then that team has a competitive advantage. If a team has players that are great at attacking the rim, that team also has an advantage.

Defenders get fouls called for "failure to yield" (get out of the way) when a player drives directly into them when the defender is standing there. Defenders get a foul called for allowing their own chests to be struck by an elbow that a driving offensive player throws at them...

Or that fourth step as a player sets his feet just right for a three point shot.... Or if a defender jumps up to contest a jump shot and the shooter sticks a leg out to trip his opponent or barrels into the defender and gets rewarded three free throws...
