I literally moved across the street and got $900 off. The view isn’t as nice and the building is older. But for 900, I’ll live with it. Till the very end, my landlord didn’t budge an inch.

I started off asking for 400 off.

My last offer was a mere $100 off my current rent.

So did he rent it out immediately or still vacant?

The landlord probably uses that tactic with every tenant who asks for a reduction, thinking that most are bluffing and aren’t willing to move out.

Way to show those NYC scoundrels that you have game!

Moving, If you haven't worn it for 2 years get rid of it; somehow. throw nothing away. charity is still a tax savings.
Don't do it all in a weekend. Take a little at a time, depending on circumstances.

Did I see that 25 % of all apt dwellers are behind on their rent ? (is that in one of the linked articles ?).

Stuff happens; John moved from larger home in Annapolis to smaller home in NJ, now into larger home in Conn. All in less than a year.
Salvation Army wouldn't take some of his larger furniture in Anna so he chained sawed them in pieces and burned it all in his fire pit. Now he needs new stuff to fill the new house.
Don't sweat the small stuff, make the big stuff small stuff and don't sweat that either.

That's a nice way to fund an investment portfolio or retirement fund startup. Budget to invest the 900 NOT spend the 900. Just don't listen to our OTC/Small cap ideas.

Thanks Landlord !

My neighbor has been renting out 2 places on the OC boardwalk for 25+ years from 2 different people. He pays 40K for the one per year from a well known local family who own a couple blocks of the boardwalk stores, he got a big reduction from him on that one due to the COVID issue, not being able to open on a normal schedule and decrease in business.

The other one he pays &80K per year and when he asked the landlord (Philly guy) for a decrease he laughed and said go pound salt. So he did, luckily for him he was contemplating retiring in the next few years anyway and he works his *** off all summer, 16 hour days, 7 days a week. Here we are in July and the place is still vacant and likely will be the rest of the summer/year. For the landlord to think anyone was going to rent this summer when all these businesses are failing is short sighted. Now instead of $60K which is what he offered him, he will get nothing.

Sounds like you merely lowered the quality of your building to pay less rent. An option you always had and now have the aggravation of moving. Who won? Not a slam dunk at all

Im here till the end of the month. After that they will probably spend August refurbishing it, with the goal of renting it out in September.
Al, You gotta keep track and try to find out what your old Apt. rents out for. I know where I live in NJ we are getting lots of transplants from the city. I want to know if your landlord gets more or less than what you were asking off!

Hahaha! Who knew all that Rutgersal bluster was actually backed up with some stones! I have new found respect for Rutgersal. Al, I give my blessing to you to go on other teams boards and tell them that Rutgers is the new Alabama!

He actually said no large gatherings unless you are protesting, then this...

What a waste of tax payer money...but theirs to waste I suppose...late 70s NYC can’t be that far behind...needles, crime, street-walkers and a general fleeing to Jersey, LI, the Hudson Valley and CT

someone better put a big ol wall around billionaires row (57th?) those Chinese and Russian buyers will be demanding it pretty soon!
