You provide the data, since you commented about data
"Stuff like this is why we read stories of career criminals committing horrible crimes." You made the comment, surely you based this on factual data...so why be afraid to share it?

Let me pose a hypothetical to you and the other posters who take issue with this law:

Imagine you have a daughter, and she is sexually assaulted by a neighbor. Fortunately, she survives and gets away, but the only evidence is her word. Suspect gets away with it due to the lack of evidence. The suspect continues to live in the neighborhood and the father and the rest of the family routinely have to see him living his life freely, realizing he could attack her or someone else again. The father, finally reaching an emotional breaking point, shoots and kills the suspect when he sees him walking down the street. Father is convicted of aggravated murder, as it was technically a driveby. Should he spend his life in prison with no chance of parole, or should a court be able to look at all the factors, including the emotional impact of his daughter being sexually attacked by this man he killed, and determine whether he should have a shot at parole after a certain period? What would you want for yourself or someone you care about?

Another hypo: if a 16/17 yo is involved in a gang, as part of that he is ordered to perform a driveby shooting that results in death. Granted, he could have said no, but then he likely gets killed himself. So, he is caught and convicted of aggravated homicide. 30 years pass in prison, he has become devoutly religious, is a model prisoner as far as good behavior, has learned a valuable trade that provides a benefit to society. He demonstrates extreme remorse for his actions, and he has countless prison officials and others within the community advocating for his release. Shouldn't he be able to be heard before a parole board?

Changing this law allows for that. Are there going to be times someone is able to be advantaged by it that shouldn't? Most likely, but is it better to not allow those that should have the opportunity to have it?

Politicians sold em out. Told ownership that basketball offered Seattle no cultural relevance. They were voted out their next term, but the damage was done. Sonics were sold to a guy from Oklahoma that saw how lucrative hosting the pelicans was after the hurricane.

Lol,

The bill simply limits the charge from being elevated from 1st degree murder to aggravated murder. They still get charged with murder. You do realize murder 1 can still get you life, right?

Damn, why get mad about something you don't even understand?
Every damn thing on this board has to turn into something political. Many of you on this board are nothing more than puppets for your favorite political talking head who simply laughs at how easily manipulated you are. Not only do they not care about you, but they also don't care about any of us. We are simply a means to their end which is to remain in power while raping the country of its wealth. WAKEUP AND STOP THE MADNESS!

Well there goes his Big 3 contract down the toilet!! When are these Big 3 stars gonna learn they got a whole life of Half court basketball in front of them and they should leave the shootings to college kids. They'll be other times later on in life to ruin the rest of your life. No need to spend it all in Prison. If you get older than **** you'll only have to spend a fraction. I mean 53 Is old enough but 73 would equal alot less time. 😂

In your first example, the rape is here say, so how would the judge or jury consider it?

Just gotta add .......

I'm 63, and to this day he is still the best high school basketball player I ever saw play. A complete athletic freak.

Maybe an idiot (come on man, stealing a gold chain from the coach's son and pawning it a 5 min walk from the dorm?), but he was only limited by intelligence, not ability.

This is going to be interesting. Calling it a drive by implies some things that don’t jive with the video. If this is a 2A issue some people are going to have to answer some tough questions I’d think.

Definitely wasn’t a drive by but I think in some states shootings involving cars automatically qualify as drive by or something like that. Not an attorney though so no clue.

Years ago in my teens and twenties when I collected cards, I wrote a bunch of NBA players and enclosed two cards of themselves. I asked to sign one and keep the other. Surprisingly I got back a few and Kemp was one of those players. He signed the card and also sent me a Supersonics bumper sticker and laminated schedule card with players pics.

When I was a kid, I did the same thing with Michael Jordan. I wrote the Bulls and asked for a Michael Jordan autograph.

Guess what they sent back?

An unsigned card of John Paxson. The Bulls literally trolled an 8 year old.

Using the drive-by label catches a lot more attention and it is used to bias a jury before one is ever selected.

I went to High School with Shawn. I was older, his sister was in my class and knew her. She could play too. Had a few classes with her and she rode a couple times when I picked up a cpl friends on the way in the morning. He didn't grow up in the hood by any means. Mostly white school but there weren't really any problems and he wasn't in any troubles there. I remember hearing about him when he was in 6th grade as I mowed grass in summer for a former teacher of mine who coached and he got the help he needed along the way for sure.

I have never seen anything close to what he was in HS athletically, granted a little biased. He couldve been so much more dominant than he was . He should've absolutely dominated more than he did. Not his personality. It is kind of funny as we were known for a nationally know music program, our band was always at the big parades and not a huge school. Music Dept was bigger than athletics and we had out end of the school and remember the music dept used to laugh at the jocks . That kind of changed , it was the hottest ticket in the whole county to his games.

He has been back to a few things at his old HS and has a pretty good personality to people,so not surprising. He has made some bad decisions no question . This seems to look a lot worse on the ESPN ticker than it is but still should never have got himself in that situation

ESPN's reporting no charges for Shawn Kemp. 😍🫵
He can go back to selling weed at his two marijuana stores in Seattle💯. Cookies and ice cream for everyone.
