You're just too quick TT. Was just going to post.this.

He made some great movies. 3 Days of the Condor was a fav of mine along with the many blockbusters everyone remembers

Had not heard about RR in a while, thought he was already dead. RIP.

One of my favorite movies of his is actually Out of Africa. But he did have so many classics
I can’t remember the movie but remember him driving an old Porsche 911 to a mountain ski resort. That movie made me want a 911 and I eventually bought a 1983 911 because of it. I am sure the one he drove was older but it did make me really love those cars

Sneakers was an underrated movie. RIP
oh I think Sneakers was properly rated.. of generously rated if anything.. not RR's fault

but geeze.. so many films for Redford.. it's crazy.. Electric Horseman.. Barefoot in the Park.. just a huge filmography of good films.. and I'd guess he turned down a lot of great roles as well.. AI says..

The 12 roles Robert Redford reportedly turned down include:
  1. The Graduate (Benjamin Braddock)
  2. Serpico (Frank Serpico)
  3. Jaws (Matt Hooper)
  4. The Godfather (Michael Corleone)
  5. Superman (Clark Kent/Superman)
  6. Apocalypse Now (Willard)
  7. Love Story (Oliver Barrett IV)
  8. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (initially declined, later accepted)
  9. The Way We Were (Hubbell Gardiner, initially hesitant)
  10. The Great Gatsby (Jay Gatsby, considered but passed)
  11. Rosemary’s Baby (Guy Woodhouse)
  12. Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (Nick)

Indecent Proposal not mentioned. He still looked great albeit a bit older.

Glad more in the thread (so far) have recognized how good “Three Days of the Condor” was.

As for the role in “Superman”, my recollection was he was the one turned down.

Great actor. Maybe even better director. That he convinced people to hate Mary Tyler Moore in ordinary people shows how good a director he was.

I believe he did play Jay Gatsby. He would have been horribly miscast in Serpico and The Godfather.

hmmm.. have to disagree.. its nice to have a distraction.. common cultural touchstones.. but they don't affect our lives.. that's what family and friends are for.. colleagues also.

yeah AI did not word that properly.. they noted one case where he said no and changed his mind.. prolly more money offered.. but they missed Gatsby and for The Way They Were just said he was initially hesitant without explictly saying he did it.

Of course, none of his movies are free today- all of them have gone for rent or buy...and yesterday, I bet you could have found them free everywhere

Anybody ever seen Brubaker. He played a warden trying to clean up a corrupt prison. Thought it was pretty good.

RIP Mr. Redford you were one of the best in your profession and will be remembered as long as movies are made
