One of the best pop albums of the 80's, George Michael was the real deal. RIP

Too young here. Never heard of him.

Neither has my father in law, so I googled his songs and listened to part of 10 of his "best" songs and didn't recognize any of them.

53 is too young for anyone to pass away. I hope to live to be 100 myself. About 65 years left!

Ha. This says it all about how hollow "pop" fame is. And how stupid our culture's cult of celebrity is.

1. If you never heard any of his songs you never have put on the radio to a station that wasn't country or metal.

2. Who can name his partner in Wham!

I remember they had a creepy "most likely to die next" poll in Rolling Stone shortly after Jim Morrison died (on the heels of Joplin, Hendrix, and Brian Jones). Keith Richards won hands down with something like 86% of the vote. Looks like he had the last laugh.

Close!

99% country music and rap music over the years.

Two best kinds of music...(just kidding, just pokin' jabs at the 99%+ on this board) well, rap in the late 90's and early 2000's, ok, mostly eminem.

Mostly country music (about 1987 through now) for me along with the other less than 1% of the posters on this board I bet...

Have a local station that plays the greatest hits of the 70's 80's and 90's for that kind of music, but I've never listened for more than a few songs. When I saw this thread, Michael Bolton popped in my head and I thought it was him until I said the name again.

It is a different experience when you grow up in rural SW Nebraska with only 5 different radio stations (classical, pop/rap, soft-rock, old country, new country) compared to you guys in the big cities that have an FM station for every tuner frequency on your radios.

When I hit my seek button, it takes a few seconds to find a station

I see what you did there.
So a matter of taste; but he really hit on a few. IMO, if you even get one out that really touches people or that can change a life, you really " made it " -
He did accomplish that. Ugh on the 53; they say: old seems 12 years older than you are - I am older than George was ; and I notice that stat opinion holds for me :) . I just hope he died Happy; and not in an induced state of mind. GBR

One of my favorite versions of this song ever. The man had his issues like many celebrities but his skills were world class. Our planet just lost one of the greatest entertainers (at his peak). RIP good soul.

Yep, no doubt that guy could sing.

That's what makes music what it is ... it means different things to all people. I could not possibly disagree with you more, but you are entitled to your tone deaf opinion

And it's perfectly fine with me that you enjoy extraordinarily gay music. Not that there's anything wrong with it. I'm glad we're both so tolerant. Winking

His music was too poppy for my taste, I was more into harder rock/metal at the time. I never considered buying one of his CDs. However, his music was played in the meat market bars I frequented before I was married and at the gym back then, etc. So even thought I wasn't "into" his music, when I hear it I have nice memories of the era. He seemed like a nice enough guy. It is too bad he died relatively young at 53, yet disgusting pedophiles like Rene Angeli live into their 70s.

Saw a pic of him from few months ago on tmz. Didnt even recognize. Looked like 300 lbs. Also substance abuse rumors. So put those 2 together. Not good.
In recent years, the hedonistic lifestyle that the singer became famous for had left the once dashingly handsome pop icon a bloated version of himself.

It can also be revealed that during the past year he is thought to have battled heroin addiction.

A source revealed that Michael had been treated in hospital for an overdose.

“He's been rushed to A&E on several occasions," the source said. "He used heroin. I think it’s amazing he’s lasted as long as he has.”

Should I feel bad that this doesn't move the needle for me? I never vibed with his music and I didn't particularly like his lifestyle. Not the gay aspect, but the excessive self-indulgent risky behavior. I'm not glad he's gone, but I feel he's nowhere near being on the same level as Bowie, Prince, Cohen, etc

The only one of the 4 that really bothered me much was Bowie. He was as talented as they come. Prince was too, but his music never really did much for me.

Cohen and George Michael didn't really do much for me at all. Bowie hurt nearly as much as John Lennon and George Harrison for me.
