Pike and Cronin had the same issues and concerns. They both made it known the effort wasn't where it needed to be. Pike at the last press conference said he did a bad job getting these ready to play. The right way to tell the team (and the media) the effort wasn't acceptable.
To some extent are you not concerned that the soft nice guy version of this is falling on deaf ears? He has said for about 5-6 games in a row the effort is on him the prep is on him gotta get the guys ready to play etc etc nothing seems to change

Yes I have major concerns about the defensive effort. Yelling and throwing people under the bus isn't a surefire solution.

Pike benching Ace and Dylan in the Wisconsin game did light a fire under the team. PT is going to have be the tool that is used.

Hope the players tell the bald headed smurf to kick rocks, why would they want to play for someone who places all the blame on the coaches he hired & the players he recruited!

UCLA got destroyed last night. Michigan's two 7 footers are a serious problem.

I actually met him on UCLA’s campus earlier this summer. Was just touring around on the USC football trip and he was out walking his dog on the main quad. He said he loves the RAC, and remembers how tough it was when he was at Cincinnati, which I forgot that he coached at the RAC before. He was super nice and happy to be in the Big Ten. He did love UCLA though, said you can feel the ocean breeze, tough to beat. Seems like a no BS guy though and would take him in 5 seconds, but sounds like he’s getting ready to wrap things up, and why would he move to frigid Livingston from Bel Air.

I see him at my club from time to time. He's a good dude.

Dylan didn't have any legs. He shouldn't have been out there. He was getting easily beat off the dribble and the one three pointer he took barely hit the rim, all while getting beat down the court. He wasn't ready.
So Pike took him out and put him back in 3 more times

Money can become a distraction. You put 80k in someone's hands, who's never had any before. It'll change alot about that person
80000? Not anywhere a big deal. Heck a nice car costs as much, and then it's worth butkus.

Did not read all the posts here, but I don't think what the coach said was out of line, nor unusual for a poor playing team
He insults them as soft, entitled, in order to first embarrass, and then motivate

That sounded just like a Pike presser, right? Maybe not so much……… wish we had Cronin here, he would have a field day with our lack of defense and rebounding

A lot of college basketball coaches are used to total control of kids who have no other option but to get yelled at until they can move on. They ruled with an iron fist, with varying degrees of strictness ofcourse.

A lot of coaches are finding out that they don’t know how to manage egos and aren’t the leaders they thought they were.

It’s a very important skill as a coach and a reason coach K and coach cal were at the top for a long time.

He is delusional, not just his players
1. He brouught these guys in
2. He mentions mental state-----that's part of his job
3. Worried about gas in tank---that's on him too

He has a ridiculous ego...knocking his coaching staff too.

What does go see the Wizard mean?

He reminds me of us fans after a game...this is stuff you see in a game thread.
So your point is they are playing bad and that’s on Cronin?
Mental state, effort, hustle, rebounding etc
That’s on Cronin?

I’ll assume then our terrible season is all in Pike then correct?

Here’s one….

If the university is directly paying players.
With revenue sharing….
Does that enable them to fine the players for misconduct?

I’m sure it’s at the risk of being recruited against. But wonder if this might be a tool coaches use.

Lol this guy just disrespected his whole locker room. Just like Jerrod Mayo. Conversations like these should be kept one to one, but it sounds like the coach wants all the attention.
Respectfully disagree
No issue with criticizing the team as a motivational tool

Maybe the locker room needs exactly that

Did anyone catch this after they took a beat down from Michigan? I was always a fan of his at Cincinnati and feel like his coaching style and success is kinda what Pike has been after up until now

Good for him for making his team accountable and staff. In the era of NIL and $$$ there should be nothing held back when things are not to par on the court and I think there is too much coddling and massaging players egos

Absolutely love it and he's spot-on IMHO. The NIL era (as-is) has made so-so kids think they're superstars. Worst thing to ever happen to collegiate athletics.

"I have 500 wins, I don't have to do anything else" 🤔 interesting statement....But it's funny, teams have lost games and their coach ranted before NIL. Players have thought they were better than they actually were before nil, Now when it happens, if you don't like the idea of nil, it's because of nil.

That’s not his point and I think you know it. A lot of the things Cronin said are probably true. That doesn’t mean he should say them publicly.

There are some great coaches that act like jackasses. Such as Hurley or hell, Bobby Knight. Some of you guys make the mistake of thinking they are great coaches *because* they act like jackasses.

Cronins team is
Cronin should be on the hot seat right?

Asking those who say Pike should be
UCLA is 11-5
NET 30
3-4 in Quad 1
no loss outside Quad 2
elite road win at Oregon, neutral site non conference wins over Gonzaga and Arizona

Solidly in field if today was Selection Sunday

Not sure I understand the question

UCLA is 11-5 and ranked and definitely having a rough week to ten days.

Pike has been bad and regressing for 5 years with the last 3 years being really bad. This season a college basketball all time worse season. Litterally becoming a national laughing stock which will get worse come February. Next years roster might not have a D1 player on the roster.(Lathan transfers)

So is the question why is Pike getting fired and not Cronin?

23 months ago we landed Ace and Dylan because we were one of the best teams in college basketball.

You can't have it both ways. You can't kill Pike for not winning with Dylan and Ace and not give him credit for lifting the program from the dead and putting it in the place where Ace and Dylan would come here. Pike got the #2 and #3 rated recruit to come to Rutgers. People are upset with the losing and have forgotten what has been accomplished.
