OT: Potential Winter Storm on 3/7-8

Well the ride home was slow but safe. Lit a cigar and didn't care how long it took me to arrive safely. It is dynamically different in Bucks County. Heavy snow. Trees packed with it and heard big limbs snapping while I finished cigar in driveway. Praying that I keep power.

agree...its coming down in huge flakes..we are in the middle of the pivot here in somerset county...but the accumulation while growing especially the last hour may also be melting and contracting as well

Same here, except the snowfall is hardly a flurry for the past half hour or so.

In Ramsey, we had 2-3 inches on grass and shrubs before it started to stick on the pavement. We now have about 4 inches on the driveway and still snowing steadily.

I'd say the same. After that initial burst where it was coming down heavy and put down a nice coating and a little more after just has been moderately snowing off and on but it doesn't look like the accumulation is increasing. It's a slushy mucky snow though.

Went out to get the mail and must be about 3/4 of an inch on the driveway and some chunks of snow at the end from the plows coming by. Sidewalk still visible.

BTW just a tip for those who may not know, put some lubricant on the chute, blades and impeller of your snow blower or shovel before you go out. It's not a perfect solution but it can help with this kind of heavy wet slushy snow with regards to sticking and clogging. I usually spray and wipe it on about 15 min before I go out.

for those not getting it whether you are to the northeast toward NYC or southeast toward the shore...you will soon enough..the heaviest bands are going to pivot your way. I have been getting raked the past 90 minutes and that band looks like it is pivoting and combining with band of shore that will slide from southwest to northeast.

D'oh! Spoke too soon, as the sleet mixing in certainly hasn't helped ratios (but as I've said many times, I'm a mass guy, not a density guy, lol). For the past hour I did some errands. Went onto Route 1 for a bit, then 287 and both were snow covered and getting bad and local roads in Edison and Metuchen are an adventure.

Back to the snow. About 1:30 pm or so started getting some sleet and then the past 20 minutes have been snow/sleet and surprisingly just moderate in intensity. Looks like that's about to change and hopefully we'll go back to all snow (50/50 now). As of 2:00 pm we have 3" of new snow on the ground, so only 1" the last hour. 3.75" total counting our 3/4" in the morning. And as I'm posting this, it's back to all snow and heavy.

Damn, now a mix of rain and sleet and light intensity. This wasn't part of the plan, lol. Didn't get much at all the last hour; in fact, the sleet and rain compaction probably cancelled any accumulation. Holding at 3" new, 3.75" total as of 3 pm. 31F. Kind of nuts that people NW, W, SW and S of me are getting hammered and we're not, although apparently this sleet/lull has been going on for awhile along 95 from NB to Manhattan - folks in the city grumbling with only an inch or so. NWS in NYC just reiterated that they think the forecast is on track, which would mean 8-10" in NE NJ/NYC in the next 6 hours or so. Doable, but certainly nervous time for some.

Edit - right after I posted this, the snow started coming down again like it was earlier - very heavy - let's see if we sustain this...

I use wd40 silicone spray, but I'm sure wd40 works as well. I've read pam cooking spray or even crisco lol any sort of lubricant I suppose should help. I mean it's not a perfect solution because with my older blower there would be clogs at times but less. With the shovel it worked pretty well and with the newer blower that's about 3-4 years old now, no issue ever with any kind of snow we've had the last few years.

I can't guarantee it'll work perfectly but it helps IMO. Give it a little time to set in.

Western Morris county up here in the higher elevations has been all snow all day....since at least 5AM when i got up.... Probably a total of 16" on the ground, but that includes the 3 or 4" still leftover from Friday's 10" storm
