They have no other choice & it's pretty smart. They need to create demand for their product and already have the announcers / production team. If they get enough eyeballs, other offers will come. The biggest obstacle to getting a TV deal is to get past this "whitewashing" narrative.

It's going to be interesting to see what they can generate in terms of viewership on Fox Sports One.

College Football does fine. Anything will be better than LIV.com/YouTube. At least all the bars will have it on now. That will help viewership. However, it will be interesting to see the viewership numbers and to see if Fox or anyone else bites. To @jtung230's point throughout this thread, if they don't get the numbers/TV deal, will be interesting to see how long the Saudi's fund this. Gotta be at least 3 years I assume.

Agreed. They have to show enough viewership for a regular network to want to wade into this and pay them.

Norman admitted the Saudi’s funded them for three more years. You have to wonder if at the end of three years it’s status quo, the Saudis pull back on the commitment or even just pull out.

LIV has a better shot then the Golf Channel.
FS1 IN 93 million homes
Golf Channel in 79 million

Actually surprised me. Golf Channel has been around much longer.

Golf Channel is an extra on a lot of cable systems (ex. sports pack). That may be part of the reason their numbers are lower.

Considering Norman lies about a lot my guess is less than 3 years of funding.

From the I didn't know department
In June
– Discovery Inc. signed a $2 billion agreement that gives it media rights to PGA Tour programming for its 220 markets outside the United States.
The deal announced Monday is designed to allow Discovery to deliver golf around the world on every screen and device. It’s the PGA Tour’s latest effort to expand its fan base around the world.._

I was checking to see what I could find about the LIV tour buying time to show their product when I came across an article showing a PGA TV rights deal.
https://golf.com/news/discovery-signs-2-billion-deal-to-broadcast-pga-tour-events-outside-u-s/

found this also:
Report: LIV Golf nearing deal to buy TV time on FS1
>Networks typically pay a rights fee to broadcast a sport. The PGA Tour, for example, this year began an expanded media rights deal for its tournaments to be shown on CBS, NBC, Golf Channel and ESPN+. The nine-year deal is worth an estimated $7 billion.<

>In this case, LIV Golf would pay for the time slot and be responsible for the cost of production and any advertising to be sold. In some time-buy cases, the deal includes a few promotional spots to let viewers know when it will be aired.

But any deal, even a time buy, would give LIV Golf what it desperately needs — TV viewership on an American linear channel.<

Rory must be mulling a LIV offer now. 😀 Just kidding. I wish his tone wasn't so divisive early on but both sides are all coming around now. There needs to be a partnership at some point.
Technically, Rory is talking about a new tour call LXII. 54 holes = no points 😀

Tiger and Rory have created a PGA sponsorship golf league that will be done on simulators. Who wants to watch that ****??
I’m guessing the guys who like top golf. Personally, not for me. I do enjoy practicing in a simulator because I’m into data. But big seller of Top Golf.

Top golf is fun with friends but watching simulation golf is entertaining???

There are not reports that maybe Fox and LIV aren't close to a deal. And a LIV executive issued a bullish statement on TV negotiations. But with all things LIV and Norman, you have to take it with a grain of salt.

"Recent reports about media rights have been incomplete and inaccurate. LIV Golf has exceeded expectations and remains ahead of schedule across numerous fronts, including broadcast rights,” Jonathan Grella, LIV Golf chief communications officer, said in a statement provided to Yahoo Sports. “As we have stated previously, LIV Golf is just beginning its process and is in active discussions with several companies about broadcasting the LIV Golf League. We caution that no one should draw any conclusions about potential media rights given that we are still in the middle of negotiations with several outlets.”

Fox probably wants more then LIV is willing to pay and Fox is worried that the PGA might win it's lawsuite against the LIV so wants the payment for services guaranteed by a third party, or paid in advance, so if the LIV folds Fox still will get paid for events that were scheduled but no longer will happen .

It's a year by year deal. Don't see the LIV folding in the next few years especially since the PGA is making a mockery of it all. PGA went about this the wrong way.

I also think the LIV will last for awhile longer and might have staying power because of the money behind it.
But the PGA has a lot of cards left to deal and if they prevail in court with the counter-suite they recently filed , making the the LIV backers have to re-evaluate if their investing in it will get the desired results , or be just the type of bad PR they thought the LIV tour would help overcome..
Norman's text to Garcia might help the PGA's position and if the LIV is proven to have enticed players to breach their PGA contracts by paying them huge sumes to join the LOV tour while claiming the PGA contracts are uniforcable, the LIV just might fold rather then agree to accept any decision the court makes about what liabilites they will face.

But still my opinion is: the longer the fight between the LIV and PGA last the easier it will be for the LIV to pull players from the PGA if the signing bonuses are still there at a high rate and a deal will be made between the two warring factions.before the case goes though the court systems appeals process.
Who ever loses a court decision will appeal that decision and eventually it will be a Supreme Court matter.if a deal isn't made

The PGA should have made a deal with the LIV before it even stated. Give them the silly season. Let any player play for guaranteed money in what used to be the off season and maybe the WG Championships now down to just 3 weekends. Let LIV pay the players and save money. Top PGA player want guaranteed money including Tiger and Rory. PGA still keeps all the media rights money is their biggest issue.

+1
The PGA has made the situation so much worse for them. Also, if they weren't so arrogant and actually listened to their players, LIV would have never gotten off the ground.

Phil was always a phony. He's too old to matter anyway. That PGA win was like hitting the lottery.
No argument on how anyone views Phil. Calling the PGA win lucky is dumb. Mentally and physically he out played everyone. Experience mattered too. Padraig Harrington tied for 4th.

Funny nobody is complaining about Rory getting big appearance fee money this week.
So it must have been an exhibition match. But no one would dare come back and label Rory the same way they would label the LIV players, right?

Looks like LIV found a loophole to earn OGWR points.

Essentially they are playing their tournaments now inside the MENA Tour, a little known tour in Dubai that qualifies for OGWR points.

Reviving a minor tour to help them get something they want is a great move by the LIV and the MENA ( based in Dubai , UAE) tour probably will benefit as well.
But before MENA and the LIV pop the Champaign Cork to celebrate they have to await the OWGR reviewing that marriage before allowing players involved to be eligible to get world ranking points.

I expect MENA to get a quick infusion of cash to make it into a major tour and probably being based in a nation friendly with Saudi Arabia will help that tour be able to get Saudi financial backing or the UAE start backing MENA as a favor to the Saudis
