Bubba Watson going to LIV. Good move. He’d never win another PGA tourney.
40M for Watson + prize money over 3 years is a home run deal for him. LIC can fill 48 spots with top end players easily with these signing bonuses + guaranteed payouts. They will have a huge lineup by the end of this year imo.

Im surprised that there isn’t a bigger movement of Tour players to LIV. This may be one time huge money for them.

Fill out 48 spots with top end players easily? Then why aren't they doing it right now? As it stands right now, they have only one Top 20 player in the OWGR on their circuit (DJ). They have five in the Top 30 (DJ, Ancer, Koepka, Oosthuizen and DeChambeau). I suspect if it was that easy a pull, they'd have more of the Top 30 on the LIV circuit.

What will be interesting is after the Tour Championship. Some of those Top 30 guys might be hanging around to play in the Fed Ex playoffs and then bolting after that (Cam Smith and Hidecki seem like the most likely). The last couple of months of 2022 are going to be interesting.

If a bunch bolt, the PGA might have to rethink this and crawl to Norman to come up with a joint partnership of some sort. However, if LIV only plucks a few more top names and the majority stay on the PGA Tour, LIV could find itself stuck in the mud a bit here.

Think Rickie Flowler should look for a bid. would be a great move for him. Don’t see Hideki making the jump. Cam was more likely before he won the Open.

Bubba had been going back and forth about leaving the tour well before LIV.

Barkley wants a firm offer from LIV after the Pro-Am in Bedminster tomorrow night.

Here’s the field, and the teams, in Bedminster.

Anyone going?

Barkley didn't get the offer.
Seems like he expected one and expressed a willing to jump for a big payday , but was spurned by the tour's leadership and/or backers so he was forced to playthe loyalty card and went back to TNT.

It does look as though Chuck is putting this as a no harm no foul business move by him and the LIV.

Probably afraid Charles would speak his mind and these folks would not want to chance where that could go.

The Trump Bedminster courses, old and new, are very tough. Long, elevation changes, forced carries, challenging rough and greens.

I played the old course in Bedminster a few times and it’s a significant challenge to shoot a decent score.

Winds are now picking up Sat PM at Bedminster. Leaderboard can change quickly.

I'll start the conversation. If the PGA suspends anyone from playing in that league then Phil has been right all along. Currently the only rule of the PGA is play in 15 PGA sanctioned tournaments in a Tour calendar year. Now they are changing the rules because the new league is paying big entry fees?? The PGA is the problem not the players.
Everyone has read the article. If they throw Phil out of defending his PGA title it will be the beginning of the end for the PGA. 3 of the majors are not PGA events. Players will do great without it.
The hell with the new league, 15 of 19, human right violations, kidnap and murder. But as soon as $$$ get thrown around people forget.

Never argued those points. Please tell me why you are ok with the DP Tour, the NBA, anyone college or pro team that wears Nike, the government for years sucking up to the oil rich countries. You are an idiot to focus on one thing. If you are serious about violations then park your car and walk to work.

Do you drive a gas powered car? You support SA. The President fist bumps MBS. Saudis have fingerprints all over most sports. US sells military equipment to the Saudis. I get LIV is an easy target but think people hate Norman more than the Saudis.

Ok, we can debate all day but when have you ever read one of my post where i insulted anyone. My opinions are my opinions, your are your. Why I may diasagree, I will never disrespect you for your opinion. Now to answer your question you assumed that I was ok with the NBA and other teams taking the money. Well I am not, I include those when I say taking the $$$$$. NBA in China, all the companies and University that did business in South Africa during apartheid. In 2016 DT blames SA for 911, now he host a tournament a stone throw away from ground zero. We used 9/11 to invade Iraq but the majority of the hijackers were from SA. All of the former Presidents ( Republicans and Democrats) have received $$$$ from SA. Also I posted on the golf tournament because it was being talked about in the post. So if you start a post about the NBA and China I will post my beliefs on those situation. You also assume that I have a car

My problem with LIV is less political than economic. In this case the government of Saudi Arabia, thru their sovereign wealth fund, has unlimited dollars to squeeze out the US and European Tours, which are privately financed by sponsors. It is an unlevel playing field. LIV is paying players with government money. So much for free enterprise.

And let's go back further...the Germans (sic) bombed Pearl Harbor. Who here that denounces LIV drives a Honda or Toyota?

Agree. A ME country wants to upgrade its image in the world and decides to invest heavily in pro golf. They can outspend the PGA Tour and hire the top players over time. At the end of this year there will be even more defectors to LIV.

LIV this week has a far more interesting field for golf fans than the Rocket Mortgage in Detroit. If it was on tv the ratings would be far superior to the Rocket Mortgage. The Tour could look like the Korn Ferry Tour in the future, with players trying to get to the LIV.

LIV will always be an exhibition tour. Great way for name recognition players that are past their prime to cash in with all the guaranteed money.

It's close now but if that turns into that, who'll care?

Is anyone going to pay to watch older guys going thru the motions? They're going to need more Koepka's, DJ's, or Dechambeau's or even less will care than already don't.

Isn't this the PGA Tour every week? This argument is getting old.

No it isn't the Tour every week. Smith, Scheffler, Schauffele, Rahm, Spieth, Fitzpatrick, and Thomas are all in their 20's. Homa and Finau 32, and McIlroy is 33.

Together they've won 16 tournaments, including 3 Majors since Jan 1.

You were saying?

Those guys don’t play every week. Look at the rest of the field. Scrubs old and new. It’s no different. Look at the last couple of PGA events. Mostly scrubs.

Last couple out of 33? If you follow Pro golf, you know a lot of players take off the 3 weeks between The Open and Fed Ex playoffs after playing a half year. Still a number of winners playing this week including Cam Davis, Finau, and Homa,.

https://www.pgatour.com/leaderboard.html Excuses. The top guys play maybe 10-15 events. Timing means nothing. Check out this leaderboard. Cink, Sabbatini, Zach Johnson. I am sure you are dying to watch those guys.

One is playing for participation trophies and the other is playing for their livelihoods. Btw, Rocket has a top 5 golfer in the world playing.
Who is rumored to be going to LIV after the playoffs. Not sure what you mean about participation trophies. Both tours are playing for money and a trophy. Just because LIV received a signing bonus doesn’t mean they don’t want to win. They still have egos.

You mean they got paid to join the league and winning tournaments is a nice bonus. It’s a dumpster fire now. Trump has turned it totally political now.

ETA: per the “rumors”, LIV already locked up all top 20 players outside of Rory and JT.

Stop being a drama queen and enjoy the extra golf. More is supposed to be good. I’ve been watching both all afternoon. Haven’t seen Trump once but it’s nice to see the course with a pro event.

Of course they can work together. But LIV doesn’t want that. LIV wants the “super league”. Funny how people forget what LIV really wanted at the beginning. But now they are not getting the top guys they want to “work together”.
Huh? Have you been paying attention???
It's the PGA thar has no plans to work with them. Their commissioner is going scorched earth approach. That **** never works in business
