It'll be fun when they push the start of team sports and a whole team ends up getting quarantied and missing their games. How will that work out?

Suppose Calipari, Robic, and 2-4 of our players end up getting corona? What will happen? Won't the whole team have to shut down for 2 weeks in the middle of the season? This stuff is ridiculous. The virus doesn't give a **** about sports or your feelings.
Your hypothetical could happen, and it would be a bad situation. What is your proposal, then, to just never have sports again until there a vaccine or until the virus goes away on its own? What if there is never a vaccine, and what if the virus never goes away on its own?

Neither Italy nor Spain is a blue state. Both countries are reopening. The polarizing issue here in America today is no longer the lockdown. That's over and done with and history will judge whether it was the right thing to do. The current issue is reopening. Europe, including Italy and Spain, is reopening- in some place more cautiously than in other. Perhaps there is a contingent of Europeans that ludicrously insist that everything must stay shut down forever, or at least until there is a foolproof vaccine, but I am not aware of it. I sure am aware of it here, and it's absolutely political.
Honestly, I don’t give a rats *** what the rest of the ******* world is doing.
What is America doing to keep our lives safe?
Safe from disease and economic collapse that could affect many more than the disease every did.
And we have a damn big country that has multiple time zones and climates and it is obvious that what works in one area may destroy another.
It is not cooker cutter and nor one size fits all

We also have an incompent government incapable of mass testing its citizens and contact tracing in order to open up the safest way possible. We're going with the lets just see what happens strategy.

I agree. Some people thinking it's "too soon" are the ones enjoying that unemployment check.
I’m still a little leery of going to a busy restaurant...but two nights ago, I got to sit at bar patio, have some drinks and talk about reopening our football season with another coach. It was great.
Going to get out more today for sure.

This article states the guy who made the initial claim on Fox News even later added he did not necessarily think it was happening or had any proof that it was, just that the current legislation allowed for the possibility of it.

Misdiagnosis for gain is both a federal crime and violation of the hippocratic oath. Not to mention any hospital caught doing so would lose their medicaid funding, meaning any patient they treat who is on medicaid would or uninsured wouldn't be reimbursed by the government.

Until you pass it to your older family and they're gone. Then how will you feel? Healthy and young?
This is all rhetorical....
Do you smoke or drink? Do you live a very healthy life? Exercise, diet, mental stress, etc.
If your lifestyle shortens your life sooner than needed; are you doing a disservice to your family?
And before anyone says “my bad habits don’t kill them”. Your actions:choices do influence others close to you. To think not, is ignorant also.
Sorry dude, rant over

Lol, WTF are you talking even about? We are discussing about people comparing the seasonal flu to covid-19. We aren't comparing pandemics. What bad info are you referring to?

you said the highest number of deaths from the flu was 56k. That statement is incorrect.

An influenza pandemic is an epidemic of an influenza virus that spreads on a worldwide scale and infects a large proportion of the world population. In contrast to the regular seasonal epidemics of influenza, these pandemics occur irregularly. There have been five influenza pandemics during the last 140 years, with the 1918 Spanish flu pandemic being the worst; this pandemic is estimated to have been responsible for the deaths of 50–100 million people. The most recent, the 2009 swine flu pandemic, resulted in under a million deaths and is considered relatively mild.

No kidding. Just one piece of bad info for example. I am talking about your 56k highest death rate for the seasonal flu. 80k highest in 2017-18. Since October 2019, the high estimate for death of the seasonal flu is 62k according to the CDC website.

Lol, I can't tell if you just don't understand what you are talking about or if maybe you just have bad reading skills.

First off, from my post at 12:30 this morning.
Can you please cite this? I don't recall the who ever making such a prediction

The flu number is rounded up. Also, only 1 time in recorded history have the flu deaths been above 56,000, and that was in 2017-2018 when it was 80,000. So that 75,000 would become the 2nd worst ever. 0.04% will be more than 4 times than worst seasonal flu. It would put us in the millions of deaths. It won't be that high either. It will be around 0.02, which is still bad and required the precautions we took.

The CDC also has not stated there were 62,000 deaths this year, they stated there were between 24,000 and 62,000. That would give it a much higher likelihood of being below 56,000 than over it. 56,000 is still the 2nd highest recorded. 80,000 is still the highest ever recorded. If 62,000 or any number above 56,000 becomes the recorded total for this season, then it will be the 2nd highest. That is kind of a given that a higher number will take the place of a lower number in a ranking. Still not sure how that would be incorrect information? Lol, maybe you could tell us more about how you think that is?? [laughing]

Wrong on so many levels. When did the flu last kill 100,000 Americans in a few months, especially considering the drastic steps of shutting down the country and social distancing? What kind of complete dumbass makes a statement like you just did?
Whether you are right or not, why do you have to be a dick about it? It’s crap like you calling him a dumbass because you don’t agree with him that helps intensify the discourse that has screwed this country up. If anything you are the dumbass for thinking name calling accomplished anything. I guess I contradicted myself there by calling you a dumbass but ..oh well...
Another thing. If he is 75, I certainly hope you would not be so disrespectful to his age group or older. He is close if not in the greatest generation of men and patriots this country will ever know. And there is no questioning that

I’m sorry you had covid. If you don’t mind... did you already have an underlying lung issue... or smoker?
The two friends that I know, that developed symptoms are both are fine... but that did have a rough time. Neither has said anything about having significant problems going forward.

if you are comparing the “damage” to smoking. Where have you heard this? And we all know that smoking is also dependent on a how much and how long.
You painted with a very broad stroke
I have not had it. I do have a love one who was in an ICU because of it. Two months later it is still a struggle for them to walk more than a few a feet time. No underlying conditions and 35 years old. I casually know another 45-50 yr old who lost their life because of it. I also know 3 people who had it and were pretty much fine. It affects people differently. The death toll isn't the end all discussion is my point. Most get over the flu in a week or two. It's a serious virus for more than just the elderly.

I am in favor of things opening back up but people need to understand it's not the common cold. People who downplay it are why opening things is more dangerous. Hope it doesn't severely affect anyone else but it will. Not just death to the elderly. Serious complications are pretty common in healthy people. Of course basketball players and high level athletes will probably almost all be fine. The rest of us aren't as safe as some think.

In 2017 it killed more than 60,000. This year we were on pace to have a bad flu season, until Covid 19, and coincidentally those statistics went away.
And I wonder how many of those COVID deaths were actually flu deaths. Most of the deaths, especially on, were never tested as having covid. If the symptoms were similar to covid we marked all deaths as covid unless we could prove otherwise. I don't think there is any question there is some serious inflation in the numbers.

You seem like a nice guy, but I would need to see physical, reputable evidence to consider that. When even the white house, who has the most to lose, is stating that it is likely higher and will grow, I would say there is some accuracy behind it.

The country is re-opening. Hell, most of it wasn't even closed, just modified in how they had to operate. However, there is no point in opening everything back at once to pre pandemic levels if it means we just have to shut down again or risk losing thousands more. Do it wisely and preserve the most lives. I can rebuild a business, I can't bring back the dead.

I don't drive daily, but regardless I still have a lot of control. I can decide when, where and how I drive, and most importantly, I can decide what I drive to greatly reduce my risk. If I drive a big truck or SUV, I am less likely to be hurt. Same with a higher saftey rating. If I drive in areas with lower speed limits, I am less likely to be in an accident. If I drive during the day, I have less chance of hitting wild life and being struck by a drunk driver. If I drive in areas more familiar, I have less chance of getting in a fatal car accident. If I lower my distractions, I have a lower chance of being in a car accident. If I keep a safe distance from the car in front of me, I have less opportunity to get in a wreck. If I go below the posted speed limits and legally stop at stop signs and traffic lights, I have less of a chance of getting into an accident. While my chances are rarely ever 100% non-existent, they can be greatly lowered by things in my control. It's just apple to oranges.

The other issue you seem to be missing is that 36,000 car deaths annually don't overwhelm our hospitals and aren't contagious. There is no car wreck disease. Nor are the required steps necessary that would be needed to treat a pandemic. Car wrecks aren't spread globally. 36,000 among 12 months would be roughly 3000 per month and around 100 per day. I would love for that to be lower and we take steps to do so. However, we have had several days of close to 3000 deaths from covid-19 alone for multiple weeks straight. In 3 months, we have almost 3 times the annual deaths of those caused by car accidents. And that is strongly believed to be underreported. If that carried on at the same pace for a year, we would have 12 times as many. Yet, you think they are comparable?

Nursing home/assisted living/ etc. account for a significant portion of deaths. CDC fosters the counting of as many things as possible as Covid related because of their early screwups.

CDC over the years has turned into a political organization not one controlling the spread of disease.

Trump has said there will not be another lockdown.

Covid will be just another virus in a few months. The curve was flattened a while ago but the goal posts were moved in hopes of Trump losing in November. Nothing could be clearer.

Well maybe that the NCAA is corrupt. That would be clearer.

Nice post, I can agree with everything you put in this post (except the serious complications are common in healthy people; that is not found to be true, yet).

It is no skin off anyone's back, to be a little more cautious.

The virus is real and it will still kill a lot of people, but even shutting the country down again and destroying our economy won't help Biden beat Trump. Regardless of what all of the polls tell you, Joe Biden is not beating anyone.

I mean it's pretty easy to see that COVID 19 is much worse than the Flu just by reading the headlines each day of how many famous people die. It's crazy, it's like 3-4 a day some days. Since it started we have lost a shitload of famous actors, musicians, etc. John Prine was the worse.

I read your statement and was really putting some thought into it until your last sentence. I think it's horrible that you have to resort to calling someone a name to get your point across. Whatever I thought about your post went out the window with that last sentence. It's a shame because I thought it was a pretty good comment until then. How ridiculous.
Uh huh. Thanks Susan. It’s horrible, ghastly, omg. What are you, a preschool teacher? Anything else would be ridiculous.

Lol, would permanently losing 20% of your overall lung function not impact your quality of life?

Jesus man, that giant lump 3 feet above your *** is called your head. Try using it sometime.

Lol, so no?

I have researched it and can only seem to find debunked conspiracy theories. If you have the smoking guns that prove it, you should post them for all of us to see. That is, if they really exist of course. [winking]

Something tells me we won't be seeing any. [laughing]

Lmao, both of your articles make claims opposing your statements. Did you even read them, lol?
Both articles state the number is likely being underreported/underrepresented. Neither states the number of deaths is inflated. The article from Fox news, mentioning Dr. Birx, even discusses the lengths doctors and medical examiners are taking to ensure more accurate reporting. She even states the most impacted areas, like metro areas, are having the least issues with reporting. The rural areas with very low numbers at this point are the ones with discrepancies.

Neither articles supports your claim thay "Hospitals are paid more for Covid deaths. Some states are using this to get federal money to bail out their failing economic policies. Democrat run states are being the most drastic with their shutdown policies for this reason." Lol, Do you some other articles that support these claims?

The steps taken were incorporated to lower the overload on our healthcare system that would prevent both the illness spreading and to lower the potential mortality rate. It was based off 12 models, not 1 horrible computer model as you claimed. LOL.

While this disease does impact the elderly and those with more susceptible immune systems most, like almost any disease would, it also has infected and killed some of the healthiest among us. Saying you have to be old or in really bad shape is just ignorant.

Losing over a million people from your economy won't have any better impact on it than shuttering some of it for a few weeks.

So, do you want to try again? Or do you just want to stick to labeling everyone who disagrees as a "liberal" because you can't accurately support your bs claims?

Of course no one other than an end of times doomsayer would have predicted that 4 percent of the world was going to die, but the WHO absolutely projected a fatality rate for those who were infected to be 3.4 percent. And now the CDC projects it as .4 percent- and only including symptomatic cases. That would be four in a thousand, not four in a hundred. Mojocat was absolutely correct. As for the flu, .1 percent might actually be higher than it really is, but a particularly bad season might well kill upwards of 75,000 Americans.
And we must believe everything WHO says.

I'm going to give you the answer. He can't remember what site he saw it on and he can't search his devices browser history. You can just google it if you want to know so bad. So I did.

https://www.wfmz.com/health/coronav...cle_768425fc-77fc-11ea-9c71-bf0a00d2beb8.html

I am guessing this is what he referencing since it was the only thing closely related I could find. If you notice in the last sentence, it clearly states he died from respiratory issues related to covid-19.
"Related issues"...my wife's mom has an in home and nurse told us that hospitals do this because they get more money from the deaths being filed this way . John Glenn's wife died last week at "100" and was reported from complications with Wuhon virus. Our PC also told the wife and l if we show symptoms that he will immediately put us on hydroxychloroquine and Zpacs. I'm 69 , she is 59.
