She has been competing for China since 2019.
You can’t find her name on that report and she was a candidate for 2021 Presidential Scholar Program.

As for the dual citizenship, I can confidently tell you CCP made an exception for all their foreign players, including some Canadians/Europeans on their hockey team.

How can you confidently say that? Why can't she say that? Do you work for China? Are you a communist?

All of the people bent out of shape about people representing other countries are going to go back to not caring about them at all very soon. It's just the current anger flavor of the week. Their pundits will tell them something else to be mad about once the Olympics are over.
How many times do we really care about most Winter Olympic athletes except once every 4 yrs.? Now give me Snowboard Cross year round and I might care more. A battle royal down the hill.

I’m sorry, BOB in the wheelchair. I don’t why they would get angry when they have no control over the situation. I want to live a happy life not an angry life. Yes, she should have represented the US but it’s a matter of $$$ more like $250-500 million representing China vs $10 million representing US.
No citizenship was given up. You will see she’s coming back to the US to attend Stanford next year.

Good news. That means the $250-$500 million is taxable in the US.

Why do you say this?
When you guys accused China for human rights violation, did I speak for them?
I hate CCP but I know how CCP runs business for these athletes.
Gu would never admit because both Gu and CCP do not want Chinese people to know an exception can be made for privileged groups.

Probably did some public announcement on State run TV denouncing their American Citizenship and the paperwork never gets done. Xi and his party are big on propaganda and would have to rationalize it to the people somehow. This would work and no one has to admit they actually did it. That would explain why she's being so tight lipped on the subject.

Why would she need to lie?

You really don’t believe China is committing human rights violations on a massive scale? Wow.

Not very often, which is exactly my point. All these people fuming about this, some even going as far as demanding these people be stripped of their US citizenship, will go back to not caring at all in a matter of days.

Can you read?
I said I NEVER deny the reports on human right violations.
I’m just telling you how CCP uses double standard to get gold medals.
Why does it make me a communist?

There ya go!

That's great news for all the cranky coots with rage boners! They love them some big tax dollars.
So they can fund all the social programs. I wouldn't think it was the old conservative coots salivating over tax revenue.
I did get a good laugh when using the new tax software to see Olympic medals called out on misc. Income. No stone left unturned. I put a zero there. :)

Well this Olympics officially sucks. Mikaela Shiffrin with another ski out in her 2 best events. Our best athletes not showing up. I’m a big fan of her but poor sportsmanship just sitting on the side of the course.

One of my fav YouTubers is laowhy86 - an American who lived in China for ten years. He married a Chinese girl and is fluent in the language. He's a really smart guy who has been doing videos about China for over 5 years.

His latest video is about the crossover athletes. He explains what's going on and why the girl who fell skating is getting scalded in China. You can learn a lot of China from laowhy86. Chinese who post comments are often saying things like "finally an American who understands China"

This girl is just another example of USA being Eclipsed by China... because we helped that happen. Remember how many foreign athletes became Americans and competed for us. Were they "bought?" Of course... to some extent. But since nearly everyone in their countries would likely do the same they are not hated in their own countries.

to be fair that is likely because they couldn't make the team. Often "US" athletes will compete for their country of birth because they can make the team there.
This was about simply rejecting her US citizen ship. What was funny is the NBC commentator referred to her as the “Chinese “ girl representing the country of her mother’s birth China. Not this girl born in San Francisco , educated who sells her rights for the almighty $$$$. This is so much like others from the NBA, NFL , major corporations and politics whose moral fiber is compromised by money. Glad she’ll reap millions from the genocidal CCP . Perhaps she can make a side trip and speak to the Uighurs in the detainment camps post games? NBC should arrange that for her.

I like the one where they do it on hockey skates more.

Like short track but on hills. Wild.

Which I kinda hinted at in the NHL thread the other day.

Those guys (and now it seems like everyone else now too) didn't give up anything. Good for them getting a chance to perform on this type of stage but it's still more of a carpetbagger/mercenary or expat thing than anything else: within in the rules but...

That might have changed after she won, though there is still a kid's gloves aspect. Check the WSJ article.

So then you admit we are correct . Why is she so afraid to say outright “ I sold out for $$$$”. Personally I would respect that more if she did. Did she ever come out and say I did this for my mom not only for money? People could respect that. The narrative is she gave up her US citizenship and there in lies the problem.

I have been objective and trying to tell you how it works and why it’s normal. I never tried to defend CCP.

Did she give up her citizenship? She hasn’t been upfront about that . If China is so great , I am sure she will be happy to call it home.

Accused them of human rights violations? You don’t believe that the CCP for hundreds of years has committed human rights violations? This is not something new. Drowning daughters in the Yangtze River was a good and acceptable thing. Evidently she doesn’t read in history how vile they were . Ask Japan how much they love China. We have some of our own in the USA who will claim we as a nation and people are as evil and guilty of war crimes and worse. They may be right but even at our worst we are a better nation. At least pre pandemic we were.

China's population makes it the #1 movie market in the world. Of course its a large market for other things as well. Even WASP Americans are falling all over themselves for China bucks. Gu at least is part Chinese. Gu as a skier would have a much lower earnings cap in US than in China. Being a Chinese American and ditching the home country makes her even bigger in China. Nike and NBA, NFL laid the groundwork for making more money in anti-US foreign market by giving US the back of their hands.

US businesses and government abroad have made selling-out to China seem virtuous (civil rights abuses are now lower on the ladder than "free trade" which is a euphemism for blinders). I knew when Apple and M$ were helping China develop and run its censorship capabilities, that they would bring it home to US. Even Nicki Minaj highlighted that.

China was too big for Mao to capture militarily. So he relied on blackmail, payola and sex to lure local politicians and agencies - elite capture. It was all akin to Sun Tzu's winning a war without fighting. China has been doing the same in US and there are so many "elites" bought-off that things have gone from elite capture to elite merger. We can expect more and more of Chinese propaganda and tactics to spread through US. That has more to do with US sellouts and stupefied population than some dominance of China - which is actually unstable at home. US always had ability to pull rug out from under China

What? When did I say I don’t believe the human rights violations thing?
I’m saying I didn’t defend CCP at all and asking him why he thought I was a spy/communist/exchange students.
