I have been objective and trying to tell you how it works and why it’s normal. I never tried to defend CCP.
We know how the IOC and CCP works. How many names did you supply the board with ? The only thing I saw was # 268 whomever that is?

You obviously don’t know how CCP recruited these foreign players and you probably didn’t even know her name before Olympics.

What? When did I say I don’t believe the human rights violations thing?
I’m saying I didn’t defend CCP at all and asking him why he thought I was a spy/communist/exchange students.
In the context of your postings it appears you give the CCP a free pass on a number of issues. Never said you support the CCP. I asked if you thought the CCP and their allies in BIG media , BIG Tech, Corporate America care about human rights ? Did not say you are defending them.

I never give CCP a free pass. It’s you guys claiming competing against the birthplace is wrong. I’m telling you this is normal.

You present an athlete here as an example . Is table tennis in these winter games? I must have missed that .
Ok now I know you are a troll. Did you ask for Winter Olympics specifically? Everyone knows China sucks in Winter Olympics lol.

Really it is wrong. The CCP would never allow it nor the embarrassment it would cause. Here’s my final point on this. The Xi CCP uses this as propaganda and hype . An attempt to belittle the USA by saying “ see this athlete win because she competed for China”. Your mind is made up fine. You claim you dislike Xi and the CCP fine. Just remember there may come a time when your feelings about this subject are not quite the same. Have a great day.

Now I’m the troll? Your a joke . You replied to me going back . I didn’t start any dialogue with you. You just had a different opinion and that’s ok . But don’t say, ”now I know you are a troll “. I will temper my reply as I’m tired of those that don’t see the real reason the CCP bought her allegiance . Simply she showed a great deal of disrespect but that age group would never defend this country if push came to shove . Just like many current leaders from my generation did back in the 60’s.

You asked if there is any Chinese competing for Team USA. I gave you two who just played for us in Tokyo.

This guy is probably an exchange student from China . I have no problem with foreign students being educated here . But the point was would this current CCP endorse / encourage their actual native born athletes to compete for the USA. Can you name me one? Not Japan or Mexico or France but the USA . I’ll wait for you’re list of athletes.

When you see it, you said Table Tennis doesn’t count. LMAO.
Table tennis is a summer games sport last I checked. Sorry you are so triggered about the fact this athlete sold out to CCP. It was wrong and injurious to this country because it has and will be used in the CCP propaganda machine going forward. I’m done …oh… my balls are B1G and hang low . My equipment works well at 72.

Here's my question are they allowed to go back to China? Because it seems like most are going to welcome Gu back with open arms and praise for winning a Gold medal albeit for China.

I really think we can put to bed the charade she posed of going back to inspire other Chinese girls to ski. She's on every billboard/commercial and knows what she is and was doing. Even though they're now using her as a propaganda tool against America she's still going through with it.

If you don’t know much, do the research before the nonsense.

Research ? Am I writing a term paper or trying to watch some sports with national pride ?

I'm confused about the "national pride".

I thought anyone associating with China is a terrible person and deserves scorn and ridicule and banishment from the country.
But, multiple times in this thread it's been said the US and various government organizations are fully in bed with China.
Doesn't that make the US just as bad then?
They way some others have described the US-China relationship, why would Gu even choose to represent the US?
Seems like it's 2 sides of the same coin according to some.

As you said, there is no personal investment in the actual athletes - because most are unknown.
It's literally just rooting for the name on the jersey. But according to some, it seems the jersey's aren't too different?

I wonder if some crazies on this board use any Made-in-China products.

You’re making this too complicated . This woman should be competing for the USA and has not been upfront about her citizenship status. Simple as that.

China's population makes it the #1 movie market in the world. Of course its a large market for other things as well. Even WASP Americans are falling all over themselves for China bucks. Gu at least is part Chinese. Gu as a skier would have a much lower earnings cap in US than in China. Being a Chinese American and ditching the home country makes her even bigger in China. Nike and NBA, NFL laid the groundwork for making more money in anti-US foreign market by giving US the back of their hands.

US businesses and government abroad have made selling-out to China seem virtuous (civil rights abuses are now lower on the ladder than "free trade" which is a euphemism for blinders). I knew when Apple and M$ were helping China develop and run its censorship capabilities, that they would bring it home to US. Even Nicki Minaj highlighted that.

China was too big for Mao to capture militarily. So he relied on blackmail, payola and sex to lure local politicians and agencies - elite capture. It was all akin to Sun Tzu's winning a war without fighting. China has been doing the same in US and there are so many "elites" bought-off that things have gone from elite capture to elite merger. We can expect more and more of Chinese propaganda and tactics to spread through US. That has more to do with US sellouts and stupefied population than some dominance of China - which is actually unstable at home. US always had ability to pull rug out from under China

gonna shock you here.. completely agree. and it is not limited to one party. one party couldn't have done this.. it took members of both parties to look the other way.. to believe the crap about how bringing China into the community of nations would change them. Well.. they were correct, in a way.. it made them bolder, wealthier and more dangerous than ever to the freedom of everyone else in the world.

like people here have any choice in the matter. everything is made there now one way or the other. the people buying the products did not open up china nor move factories there.

I'm very confident some of these same outspoken blowhards have benefited big time financially from China. These types would 1000 percent not think twice about outsourcing to China if it made them more money yet still be here arguing that Gu should hang.

F them with a piece of rebar from Beijing's post-apocalyptic deathscape.

American companies owned by Americans made the decision to move the factories.
And allowed to do so by politicians of both parties.

Not sure what your point was. When your competition moves their factory to china to save money and lower prices, you are kinda stuck doing the same thing. It should never have been allowed in the first place.

And many of those companies go belly-up as China copied their factories across the street, moved the best employees from the "american" factory to their factory and then out-competed them selling the same damn thing the American company made.

Chinese labor was always cheap.. think of the railroads in the 1800s. The problem was allowing factories to be moved there in the first place.

Now China makes and sells everything.. has a huge trade surplus with the USA and probably the "West" as a whole.. they use this bounty to squeeze out the remaining competition everywhere around the world.. they sell stuff more cheaply than it costs to make until the competition dies off.. they spend the money to buy political favor in UN member nations.. they lock-up natural resources around the world... all made possible by this huge trade surplus.

While the jinn is out of the bottle and it may be too late (I think of the hypersonic missile development here), we (the west) should just revert to pre-Nixon days on China. Build a virtual GREAT WALL around them. Bring all the factories home, to western nations, modernized.

Pull out all economic support for developing nations doing business with China.

Meanwhile, in actual the actual Olympics, Shaun White had an absolutely clutch performance to qualify for halfpipe finals. He fell his first run, so it was do or die the second ...and he did.

Not sure he can beat those Japanese kids, though. Gonna need to pull out all the stops and lay it down sparkly clean.
