Come on. You guys can't admit that the schedule was a benefit to the mets last season....and may well be again this season ?
Three of the teams in the NL East were awful last year and the mets were fortunate to play virtually 1/3rd of their games vs. this bunch.
The Yankees on the other hand had only one crappy team in their division....Tampa Bay. You guys would have experienced a tougher time with Boston, Toronto, and Baltimore for sure. So excuse me if I'm not impressed by the fact that the mets won 3 games more than the Yanks last season and qualified for the playoffs....where they're still looking to score a run.
And to not play one team that had a winning record last year in their first sixteen games this year...while they're trying to get their chit together...is a nice break for the mets.
Everyone knows that they don't make their own schedule. But you guys can't admit that it's a nice advantage for the Amazins ?
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, I have not followed baseball as close as I used to but beside interleague, didn't they go to more of a balanced schedule a few years back?

Think they used to have a balanced schedule but more recently went back to more games against divisional teams.

As fans we tend to compare current players and teams to the past. Do we have a potential core 4 with Sanchez Bird Judge and Severino? Of course we may but there are so many more guys in the minors who could make this a heaven 7 or a great eight or the fine 9. Its all marketing spin . The quality of the game should be all they need but marketing helps pay the bills. . For a sport we are being told is dying there is a tremendous amount of talent in MLB right now and more on the way.The Mets may not be the future around here It may be the other guys. I am a Mets fan but a baseball fan first and want both NYC teams to kick ***.

I have a question for Yankee fans. Considering that he was a major part of 4 of the Yankees WS wins, how come Bernie Williams is not considered part of that Core of Jeter, Posada, Rivera, Pettite? To say Williams was not as important as Posada or Pettire is wrong IMO. Obviously Rivera and Jeter are HOFers but the next one who should be considered (But won't go) is Williams, not Posada or Pettite.

The "Core 4" includes the 2009 title, so all 5 rings. But honestly, I think Bernie and several others deserve more recognition.

Oh ok. I've always wonder why Bernie is like the forgotten Yankee when he would be the third HOFer in the group. He always was/ is pure class.

Eight. 8 wins in a row!! Judge goes yard again. More importantly the pitching was spectacular again with Montgomery pitching like a veteran and getting his first win. Go Yanks!!

8 in a row is 8 in a row. Good job. And it looks like you guys got a new pitching kid in Montgomery. Keep it up.

Even in the loss, I was impressed with how this team kept on fighting in the 9th. They are a lot of fun to watch.

Just happy to see youth infused into the lineup after years of chasing veteran "disappointments." Trading Chapman at the deadline last year allowed the Yankees to turn the page on their roster, and I love Girardi as the manager to shepherd these youngsters into MLB players.

Maybe it works, and maybe it doesn't, but its a helluva lot more fun to watch.

I too like the youth movement but at some point Bird should get sent to AAA if he can't hit the baseball.
I worry about ruining his confidence.
I'd like Cashman to deal away Gardner too at this point.

They got that nickname because they were the centerpiece of the rebuild. Guys like Bernie, Paul O'Neill, Toni, and Cone all played huge roles, but these four really turned the tide. They all came through the minors together and helped start the dynasty when they came up in '96. Gene and Buck invested heavily into the farm system after Steinbrenner got suspended and the Core Four was the result.

Off day for the Yanks. Sad face. 3 in Pittsburgh then 3 in Boston starting tomorrow. Let's keep our pitchers healthy when they're running the bases!

I can't believe they still send pitchers up to bat in the NL.

When are the Mets fans who mocked the Yankees in this thread and elsewhere going to start apologizing?

Don't hold your breath.
They thought they were building a dynasty and that the Yankees were headed for a repeat of the Horace Clarke years.
Sad.

Bird is fine. His at bats have been much better the past week. He just missed a 3 run HR last night by a few feet. The hits will start to come.
