Doesn't matter. In fact if the voting were held today, I would not be surprised if deGrom finished third, behind Scherzer and Nola. Nola is 14-3 with a 2.24 ERA. Nola actually has the best WAR of the three at 8.1, with Scherzer at 7.5 and deGrom at 7.0. That said, I don't think the voters will pay much heed to WAR - but they will to W-L.Max would not come close to his total wins either.
You just outed yourself as the one. All he's done has been positive since arriving.Golden sombrero tonight. I think reversion to the mean has begun.
Don't remember if it was this game or another, but for a team contending for the NL title, it seemed like there were a lot of empty seats. Was at game. Crowd was disappointing, hardly into it at all. Of course they had very little to cheer about.
Absolutely. He's been playing at MVP level. But he's got a career body of work that says he's far from an MVP. Hence, reversion to the mean. You just outed yourself as the one. All he's done has been positive since arriving.
Are you sure about WAR? Or is "fWAR" something different? F War, LOL, that's a great hashtag.Doesn't matter. Undeservedly so. Much rather see the older prospect who is tearing it up.Per a Vegas report, Dom Smith to be recalled today.
Rightly or wrongly, the term "older prospect" is pretty much an oxymoron.Undeservedly so. Much rather see the older prospect who is tearing it up.
Kind of, but not really.Rightly or wrongly, the term "older prospect" is pretty much an oxymoron.
It's strange that that is strange. Is there any other sport where the competitors do not congratulate one another afterwards? Baseball is weird that way. The winning players congratulate one another while the losers slink away quietly. So strange to see Mets and Phillies shaking hands at end. Great game for the Little League players.
The winning team is alone on the field. The losing team is in the dugout. Also Hockey only does it in the playoffs and only after a series is over. There is no shaking hands after any other games. College football hardly ever see it happen and certainly not on a team scale. It's strange that that is strange. In football it seems to happen a little more because of a few things- first, these guys are engaging in a hand to hand battle for 3 hours and maybe more important, not sure if it is contractual or not but it does seem tha the HC are under obligation to find each other and shake hands at the end of the game. The winning team is alone on the field. My guess is it's due to baseball being played in a series of games. Why congratulate the winning team in the first or second game of a 3 game series? If you don't don't do it after each game, makes it weird to do at the end of the series. Now LL/High school does it after each game. At least it did when I played. It's strange that that is strange. Hockey only does the handshake in the playoffs. During the regular season, the final horn sounds and each team heads for their respective locker rooms. It's strange that that is strange. And in the NFL it isnt an organized thing. More players head straight to the locker room than stay on the field. In football it seems to happen a little more because of a few things- first, these guys are engaging in a hand to hand battle for 3 hours and maybe more important, not sure if it is contractual or not but it does seem tha the HC are under obligation to find each other and shake hands at the end of the game.
Come'on man! Tell the whole story. [roll]I posted this in the LL thread, but also going to post it here too for the Mets fans. The Mets didn’t show up for the Staten Island game yesterday. A little league team from the same city is playing and you don’t bother to show up? Terribile job by the Mets.
A rep with Little League International said the Mets missed the game because of scheduling. A Mets spokesman said the team’s schedule was handled by Major League Baseball.
“The scheduling is done way in advance, and we didn’t know who was going to be playing in that game until earlier this week,” Little League International spokesman Brian McClintock said. “Travel was pre-arranged. So we knew the window was going to be close, and we were hoping they would be here to cheer on their hometown.”
The Mets were scheduled to arrive at the Little League World Series complex at 12:40 p.m., cutting too close to catch any of the 11 a.m. game.

Here's a quote from the NY Post on the situation with the Mets and the Staten Island team:

You got Yankee fans that don't even know whenCmon man. They knew for what 2-3 days Staten Island was playing in that game. mLB can’t move up a charter flight an hour or so? And the Mets and/or MLB baseball are that out of touch to miss that moment?
Or Charlie Brown!Thankfully didn't trade Wheeler for peanuts
I would dispute this blog post with every fiber of my being, except that most of the fibers of my being really don't care.Painful ending last night. This is from the SNY blog--anyone agree? (and where does Wilmer play if Smith gets 1B?) :
" Dominic Smith should be playing virtually everyday for New York ... at first base. What the Mets have done to this kid since the end of last season borders on criminal. Nothing should have been handed to him, but a former first-round pick who has improved every season of his career until he stumbled during his Major League debut deserves some chance to prove his worth. The Mets have messed this up -- and perhaps Smith's potential career -- royally."
1) Mets handled McNeil just fine. Remember his 2016 and 2017 seasons were pretty much a washout due to injuries. He really wasn't on anyone's radar screen at the start of the season - he didn't even get an invite to major league preseason camp! He tore it up at AA, and the Mets promoted him to AAA. He tore it up there, so the Mets brought him up as soon as they had room in the lineup for him. That was when Cabrera left. No point in bringing him up to have him sit on the bench. So glad McNeil was left down all year for no reason at all.
Reyes on this team all year is just a frigging joke. Callaway still playing the vets over the younger kids in a year they need to see what they have is also a joke. How can there be so many dumb people running this team?

2) I think that if either Rivera or Cecchini had been healthy, Reyes would have been gone long ago. That said, I think Guillorme should have been here in Reyes' place. Really no big deal though. Reyes is not the reason for 55-69, or whatever it is.
3) What young kids should be playing that are not? There ain't no young kids. That's the problem.
McNeil should have been called up in June. He's 26 and he was on a lot of people's radar's. Don't forget they then made that stupid he could only play 2b comment only to delay his call up another few weeks.
Reyes is one of the worst players in baseball. He should have been cut in May. Any competent team doesn't give him a full season of ABs like we have. He's a symbol of Wilpon incompetence.
Smith should be playing everyday to see if he has anything left going forward. McNeil should not be sitting against lefties. Brentz should be up. He should be able to see if he can be bench player next year. Alonso should be up.
But there's a conflict between Smith and Alonso. Not sure if the Smith outfield experiment is working.
it seems like the Mets management still believes they have the core of a winning team and aren't in rebuilding mode, so it's safe to play Frazier, Vargas, et al. and not seeing if Smith or Alonso is really the 1B of the future.
Not for nothing but the team has been performing much better of late while going against teams still playing for something. Gives you hope for next year with a very strong top of the rotation if they can produce any consistent offense at all. Over the last month or so they've been much better in that regard.
