OK you've lost me on this one:

1. What exactly is the "superhero or hometown treatment"? If you mean promotion/publicity, yes the Mets have promoted the hell out of Harvey and Syndergaard. Matz, not so much. But they've also promoted the hell out of deGrom.
2. In what way are you concerned that the front office will screw deGrom over? Either he'll get paid through a multi-year extension, or he'll get paid for the next two years in arbitration, and then cash in in free agency. Or he'll get traded and get paid by somebody else. Either way. he ain't getting screwed. And for that, he can thank the likes of Curt Flood and Marvin Miller - but that's a whole 'nother story.

I'm not saying the Wilpons wouldn't screw him if they could. I'm saying they can't.

Mets have used 52 players already this year. The team record is 54 set in 1967. Since we haven't gotten to September callups yet, that record is quite likely to be broken. I don't think it's a good record to have.

Meh. I wouldn't put much stock into what Lame Duck Ricco has to say. I doubt he has the authority to blow it up even if he wanted to. Let's see where the new GM stands on this before we draw any conclusions.

That said, I'm sure that the Wilpons are not inclined to blow it up. But that's not to say they won't, if they're convinced it's the right thing to do. Just that Ricco is not the guy to do the convincing.

The dopey Wilpons think the Mets woes stem from the amount of players on the DL the past 2 years, and just need to get healthy. Problem is, Wright and Cespedes are not going to "get healthy", and Reyes has a degenerative form of "getting old".

I don't know if I want them to rebuild anymore. They have just as good of 1-2-3 starting pitchers as anyone in the league. They need to improve their bullpen, get some hitting and improve fielding. Hopefully, they can achieve that without blowing things up.

This is why some of us don't see the need to do a total rebuild. Not many teams can boast of a top 3rd of a rotation like Degrom, Sunsets are and what it looks like Wheeler is getting back to being. Just get some offense , team speed and a pen for crying out loud.

And there's the problem. That's a VERY big ask. MAYBE we've got the pen - we picked up seven pen arms last year and one more this year. If enough of them pan out we should be OK. But where is the offense and the speed coming from? It's not on the major league roster and it's not in the minor league system. And if history is any indicator, it's not coming in free agency.

What we DO have in the minor league system is starting pitching. Peterson, Kay, Dunn, Szapucki, and now Kilome. These are the reinforcements who MAY allow the Mets to trade one or two of their front-line pitchers, and get a couple five-tool prospects that they so desperately need. (And that their divisional competitors already have.)

Obviously it's a risk. But staying the course is also risky. No guarantees either way. The new GM will have a chance to earn his money.

Agree on most except for Travis. Don’t think he gets dealt. Way to injury prone. If Plawecki can play first and third in a pinch then keep all three. Travis, when healthy can hit HRs

Don't disagree. Positions of need (with added power--besides all of them):
3B, OF, Catcher (rarely get power here--not since Piazza)--hey, maybe we can acquire Sanchez from the Yankees!!!

Not saying he's an answer long term but Jackson has been a nice shot in the arm for the Mets since joining the team. Night and day from what Den Dekker was. Maybe a platoon with Nimmo in CF? Or Lagares? What about Alonso? Does he have a shot to be the regular 1B next season? Maybe Conforto rebounds? Hopefully. Need to have some production from 3B and a corner OF with some pop.

1) Wilmer may be shining by Mets standards, but not by NL standards, and that's what matters. His .773 OPS would place him 10th among NL first basemen.

2) So if all goes well MAYBE McNeil will be as good offensively as Cabrera was. Since the Mets sucked with Cabrera, that hardly gives me the warm and fuzzies.

3) If you're not going to blow it up, you MUST get SIGNIFICANT improvement from Rosario. Do you realize that his OWAR and DWAR are both negative? That means (if you put any stock in WAR) that we'd be better off with some random AAA shortshop. Incremental improvement will not be enough. Rosario must make a quantum leap in 2019, and I for one am not sure he's got it in him.

3) Frazier at third is what he is at this point of his career - an OK complementary player, but not the leading man the Mets need him to be.

4) The catching situation is OK if you are strong everywhere else. We ain't, therefore, it ain't. If the Mets are going to spend FA money on a catcher, which I doubt, I would look beyond Mesoraco.

5) Which takes us to the outfield and the other guy who must make a quantum leap. That is Conforto. Nimmo's production is acceptable. They need to fill out the OF with a big time free agent. They won't. Too much dead money on the books. I get that.

SO... I am not optimistic.

Agree, infield needs overhaul, I would give Rosario more time but even he is very questionable right now. Plawecki is a good second catcher but need an upgrade.

Outfield I’m ok with Conforto and like Nimmo’s hustle but need another bigger piece there too.

Need a change in philosophy. Too many older “power” hitters, need better athletes with speed and make better contact.

That is how you manufacture a run! Rosario walk (he has been more patient this year) then a steal. McNeil moves hi over hitting the ball to the right side of infield. Then Wilmaaaaa with a hit!

I think Rosario will be fine if he continues to work and can stay away from chasing bad pitches. Time will tell. I like what I have seen from McNeill but it is too soon to tell if he is a keeper. I never wanted Frazier or Adrian G and they performed about as well as I expected. The Mets need to overall their infield. They need a true 1B and a new 3B. I love Wilmer but am not convinced he is an everyday player. I respect Todd and think he is a great character guy but his bat has gotten really slow. Going into 2019 with Todd as the everyday 3B and Wilmer at 1B is setting the team up for failure.

Rosario is learning patience at the plate and it has showed. He also has speed that this team desperately needs. McNeil is not a selfish hitter which is needed in the two hole. He looks to advance the base runner in front of him. The future has to start somewhere
