I kinda agree, but just as in HS FB recruiting, a team's evaluations may differ from that of the rating services. The Mets may have liked the guys they got better than some higher rated guys who were also available.

deGrom is too classy for this organization. He deserves much better.
Meh. Here's what deGrom deserves IMHO:
1) To be paid, bigly. Which he will.
2) To chart his own career path. He'll have that too, starting in 2021.
3). In the meantime, he deserves to be treated with respect, same as any other player.
Beyond that there are no entitlements.
deGrom doesn't seem like the player who feels or needs to be entitled. It's the Mets organization who is clueless in the way they treat their players. The other thing I don't like about the ownership is how they interfere with the health of the players. The medical staff had changed once or twice in the last few years, yet the injuries continue to be a problem. Look injuries happen, but the way they are handled and the length of time is the problem. Word is young Wilpon injects himself into the decision of injured players.
Wheeler and the pen show how it's done. Pitch a shutout, drive in a run.

Mets will keep deGrom, Syndergaard through deadline b/c they don't want to rebuild--which is also part of reason why they aren't lowering price on Wheeler. They intend to contend next year, and will need to round out their rotation, and looks like Wheeler will be part of it.

Why not? Only 12 games behind phillies and think of all the games blown by the bullpen and because of their offensive impotence. Spend wisely on bullpen arms and players who can hit and you're in the mix. FWIW read that Fred at 81 doesn't want a rebuild due to his age. Now if he would only spend that would be a different story.

I’m ok with them doing nothing right now. Can you imagine the disaster they would have gotten back when Moe, Larry, and Curly were fleeced by a real GM?

Yes it tells you they are losing 16-0 in the 4th inning. Every team has games like this. The 86 championship team lost a game 26-7.
Aside from a few pitchers, the team is comprised mostly of a mix of young AA-level talent and hundred year old “has-beens”. Not a lot to work with and nothing in the farm system.
1985 they lost that game, I was there in Philly that day. Von Hayes two homers in first inning. It was 16-0 after two that day.
Look at the standings and look at the team. That is where the comparison stops to the ‘86 team. Biggest fear was that they would not go full rebuild. Years away from competing again and the coupons won’t spend a dime on talent in the offseason

Nah. When the story of the 2018 Mets is written, this is hardly a footnote.
To be serious for a moment though, it would be a damn shame if his Met career, and possibly his MLB career, ends on this note. Which it might, as Frazier will likely return from the DL when the Mets come home on Thursday.
I've said this before,you don't need a lot of talent in the farm system, just enough to contribute 1 or 2 players a year!. Teams that have 1st place double A or triple A teams may not bring anymore players north with the big club than a team that has losing minor league teams.
Need to contribute more than one or two, but I get your point.
The typical AAA team is comprised of:
- Maybe five legitimate major league prospects
- Another five or so "depth guys" who may have some MLB experience. These are guys whom you can bring up if they hit a hot streak or if you have injuries, but don't really fit into your plans. Think Jose Lobaton.
- The rest is roster filler.
Mets should promote Ruben Amaro as another GM. We could be the first team in baseball to have four GMs all working at the same time. Besides he is not getting much action in the coaching box.
