Jeff McNeil called up. No roster deletion announced yet. Might this finally be the end for Reyes? EDIT: Now seeing that Evans will also be called up, Kelly DFA, and Cespedes to DL to the surprise of no one. Reyes lives another day.

Cespedes on pace to join David Wright on the DL for the next 2.5 years. Maybe all will be well by 2021, but don't hold your breath.

Time to update the Mets All-DL Team

1. Lagares - CF
2. Rivera - 2B
3. Cespedes - LF
4. Bruce - RF
5. Wright - 3B
6. Frazier - 1B (he's played 94 games there)
7. d'Arnaud - C
8. Cecchini - SS (Vegas DL)
9. Syndergaard - P

The bullpen is weak, but apart from that, this team would be a solid favorite over the current Met team on any night that deGrom isn't pitching.

I have to give the Phillies credit as much as I hate them. They are 57-44 and in first place. Last year on this day they were 35-64 and in last. Thats an impressive turnaround

Yup. Although the Coupons were ecstatic that the A's picked up the remaining 3 million of his salary and gave them a million for the international pool. So from the owners perspective they "won" the trade. From a fans perspective, not so much.

MLB.com has just released its midseason update of its Top Prospects list. Here 'tis.

Mets have four in the Top 100, but zero in the Top 50. Gimenez and Alonso are one-two as expected. Newcomer Kelenic slotted at three. Other notes:
  • The remainder of the Top 10 is dominated by the young arms - Justin Dunn #4, David Peterson #5, Anthony Kay #6, Thomas Szapucki #8.
  • Tomas Nido hanging in at #11. His .159 MLB average hasn't scared anyone off yet.
  • Corey Oswalt at #14. A few more starts and he will "graduate" from the list.
  • Their most recent international signings - Francisco Alvarez at #15 and Freddy Valdez at #17 - are both only 16 years old. Both born after the fall of the Twin Towers. Seems like just yesterday...
  • Gavin Cecchini hanging in at #18. Damn shame he's been hurt most of the year. He'd have finally gotten his shot.
  • Jeff McNeil, who had never previously gotten a sniff at one of these lists, enters at #19. Looks like "they" aren't quite convinced. We shall see.
  • Simeon Woods-Richardson, their second round pick in this year's draft, enters at #23.
  • Will Toffey, the centerpiece of the Familia deal, is at #24. From his scouting report: "There is some question about whether Toffey has enough bat speed to hit for the average and power demanded of third basemen at higher levels. However, even those who question his tools give him credit for his ability to process the game, his makeup and his competitiveness." Kinda damming by faint praise, no?
  • The rest of the list includes three of the seven relief pitchers acquired in last year's clearance sale: Stephen Nogosek #25, Drew Smith #29 and Eric Hanhold #30. Jacob Rhame was on the list but has graduated. Jamie Callahan and Gerson Bautista fell off.
One last note FWIW - Merandy Gonzalez, the highly rated prospect the Mets gave up in the Ramos trade, fell off the Marlins list (he had been #16). Maybe they got that one right. Or maybe not, since Ramos was terrible.

Liking #16 on that list. Shervyon Newton.19 yr old, 6'4" SS with a .400 obp. My guess at that height he won't stay a SS, but that height also makes me think he has a frame that will fill out. keeping an obp with that strike zone is nice as well.

Still only in rookie ball, so aways to go.

He's the kind of guy that makes other players better. You don't have other players. Don't be so salty against one of the only solid locker room guys you have and a Rutgers guy at that. Miserable take.

An admitted thorn here with never being on the DL before, to suddenly being on the DL every stinking day once joining the Mets.

Can't wait to see the loot for Harvey as this disastrous season (that apparently will never end), continues.
