There are very few things to take from Spring stats and carry it forward to what will happen during the season but...there are a couple of stats I find very encouraging with this team...If you take, Thor/Degrom/Harvey/Wheeler/Lugo/Vargas you have 10 BB and 39K's...if these guys(big IF) stay healthy for a change, this team can actually be very strong.

At $4 mil, he is a good signing. Can play 1st/2nd/3rd if needed. Wouldn't have minded him in the same role here with the Mets. I would have really liked our bench if it started with Walker and Reyes. The problem with our team, is that we would most likely have signed him for 12mil and had him starting somewhere until he got hurt.
He was always hurt.

Yankees signing Mets cast offs? Yup, we signed Frazier, but I consider him a local kid, always will.

New Yankees 2B Neil Walker reportedly turned down a three-year extension from the Mets worth $42 million last offseason, reports Ken Davidoff of the NY Post.

I just heard that and first, I find it hysterical that when I complimented the Yankees for signing him to a $4mil deal to be a utility player, I joked that the Mets would have tried to sign him to be a starter for 12mil per year. I actually underestimated our front office idiots.
And...fuxing great job by said Idiots, to tell him to fux off when he turned down the 42/3year and came back later to say he wanted to take it then. He got greedy and lost $39 million

A bird in the hand. . . .
I almost always tend to say, don't look back, but in this case, if I was Walker, I would be a little out of sorts for missing the big payday.

He is a good pickup for the Yankees at $4 mil.

Jason Vargas takes a line drive on his glove hand and will likely begin the season on DL. Wheeler penciled into his spot in the rotation.

When I first said "You can never have enough pitching", I do wish I had trademarked the phrase.
How about an entire roster of pitchers?
It's not like anyone on the roster hits that great.

I think I may have heard that phrase from my Dad about 50 years ago who heard it from his Dad...

Bad news for all you Rafael Montero fans. Torn UCL, TJ surgery likely. This ironically extends his Mets career for another year, albeit on the DL.
Mets will find a way to get by without him:

From SNY Blog:

The way it stands, Jeurys Familia, AJ Ramos, Jerry Blevins, and Anthony Swarzak are being considered the only locks to be in Mickey Callaway's Opening Day bullpen.

This means that Paul Sewald, Seth Lugo, Robert Gsellman, Hansel Robles, and Jacob Rhame are left competing to be the final three or four relievers added to the roster.

I'll take Lugo, Gsellman, Lugo and Gsellman.
Cespedes launches two homers, Lugo strong in relief as Mets beat Nationals

Not sure where they start the season but I am sure we will be using Gsellman and Lugo. I am happy as heck that it seems like the Met's starters are healthy and either starting to go in the right direction Harvey/Matz or just blowing away everyone Thor/deGrom
Health is going to determine this season for the Mets- Cespedes need to stay healthy and give us 140 games, Comforto needs to stay on schedule for May 1 and SP's...This could actually end up a much better season then we could have hoped for.

So frustrating. I was thinking the Mets brass were finally warm to the idea of trading Montero...he's out for the season in March.

I think it's obvious, at this point, that the pitcher's mound at Citi Field was built on an indian burial ground.

Mets Opening Day roster is now pretty much set. Twelve pitchers with a seven man bullpen; thirteen position players with a five man bench. At some point I am sure they'll add an extra bullpen arm and shorten the bench.

LINEUP:
Lagares/Nimmo - CF
Cabrera - 2B
Cespedes - LF
Bruce - RF
Frazier - 3B
Gonzalez - 1B
D'arnaud/Plawecki - C
Rosario - SS

BENCH:
Lagares/Nimmo
D'arnaud/Plawecki
Flores
Reyes
Evans

STARTING PITCHING:
DeGrom
Syndergaard
Harvey
Matz
Lugo

RELIEF PITCHING:
Familia
Ramos
Swarzcak
Blevins
Sewald
Gsellman
Rhame

WAITING IN THE WINGS:
Conforto
Vargas

There was some talk of activating Conforto for Opening Day. He's healthy, but he's had virtually no spring training. The decision to give him another 15 days seems prudent. That opens the door for Evans, who had been dropped from the 40-man and was barely on the radar screen. But he earned his way into the majors, at least for two weeks. Calloway promised that this roster would be a meritocracy and he has proven to be true to his word.

LINEUP:
Lagares/Nimmo - CF (Nimmo having a great spring)
Cabrera - 2B (needs to stay healthy and then put together his typical year)
Cespedes - LF (Really looks good this spring- needs to stay healthy and could have a huge year)
Bruce - RF (always a lock for 30HR-90+rbi)
Frazier - 3B (needs to pick it up, not the greatest spring so far)
Gonzalez - 1B(Fux us) Most likely see a lot of Flores there which may turn out good)
D'arnaud/Plawecki - C (both are playing well)
Rosario - SS (looks pretty good)

BENCH:
Lagares/Nimmo
D'arnaud/Plawecki
Flores
Reyes (I like Reyes in a Utl role)
Evans

STARTING PITCHING:
DeGrom (need to have another good year)
Syndergaard (if healthy could make a run for CY)
Harvey (please give us 175 solid innings and be under a 4.00 era)
Matz (same as Harvey)
Lugo (nice number 5, need everyone to stay healthy as he would not be a nice number 2)

RELIEF PITCHING:
Familia (drives me crazy...)
Ramos
Swarzcak
Blevins
Sewald
Gsellman
Rhame

WAITING IN THE WINGS:
Conforto - need him
Vargas - please give us 175 and a 4.00 era

This could actually be a fun team this year.

I agree if the pieces fall together the Mets should at least battle for the wildcard.

That said - the 4.00 era/175 innings is probably too aggressive for either guy.

Only 19 pitchers hit both those thresholds last year. Those are essentially "All Star" stats nowadays.

Teheran of the Braves pitched to a 4.5 era over 190 innings. Worth 1.7 WAR. If the Mets get that production from Harvey and Vargas Alderson would be smiling.

Maybe not too aggressive for Matz though. Lol. He looked pretty sharp today.

Ok- then let’s go this way. Harvey, Matz 22-25 starts and sub 4.25...Vargas 28 starts and around the same era. Thor and DeGrom with 25+ starts and sub 3.30 era with at least one of them under 2.80
If we can get that...big IF but it would make for a hell of a fun summer

I need another reason. I don't drink.
Well, the only thing I can say that it is just a good place to see a game. Easy to get there via mass transit, good sight lines, solid concessions, etc. Although last time I went, my Cubs got their asses handed to them and that wasn’t too fun...

Agreed on all counts. Sorry about the Cubs. What's the expectation for the Cubbies this year?

Optimistic. We are looking good and healthy so far. Plus the young guys are continuing to get better. Happ has looked real good in the lead off spot. That said, the Brewers and Cards got better too.
