Alonso 3 HRs last night. McNeil needs to be up already. Some very interesting things going on in lower leagues with Vientos, Kelenic, Newton, Santana.
No point in bringing up McNeil unless you are going to play him, which they will not as long as Cabrera is ambulatory. Mets aren't doing Guillorme any favors having him ride pine. Why do the same with McNeil?

And Sandy keeps selling the fan BS. Perhaps, the fans need to pull a Miami Marlins approach of not showing up. Then TV will show crowds of 5K or less. When it hit the Coupons in their pockets, then they may realize you have to spend money in order to make money.

The only qualities of Alderson are he worked under Billy Beane and knew how to be cheap. That's music to the ears of the Coupons. How long will the Coupons use the Madoff thing as an excuse? The value of the Mets organization is 5th in the MLB at $2 billion according to Forbes. I believe SNY had revenues somewhere around $385 million, yet you would think this team was based in Pittsburgh, Cincinnati or Miami by the way they operate. I'm not sure why the Coupons are holding on to the team when they could quickly make money by selling the team. Forbes value of the team could surpass the $2 billion mark without a problem because of location and SNY. The Coupons money problem would be solved. It has to be a status quo thing for the Coupons, but don't they know everyone knows they are fools anyway?
I don't understand the consistent lament about the Wilpons not spending money. The Mets have the tenth highest payroll in MLB. That said, money spent does not necessary correlate with money being spent wisely.
Spotrac number is wrong and also include Wright's contact which they receive 75% back on. 2017 we finished 16th and haven't been above average since 2012. Now consider the fact that we have some of the highest ticket prices in MLB and you have our argument as to why the Wilpons are the coupons.
It 5th in MLB at $172 million. The money spent was dumb. Bobby Bonilla still on the payroll. It foolish thing like this that make you mad. I love David Wright, but there is no way he gets that type of money when his history has shown he's injury prone. Even back in his youthful days.
Cespedes $29 million
Wright $20 million
Bruce $11 million
AJ Ramos $9 million
Yet Sandy is willing to trade valuable assets like deGrom or Noah? Mets have control over both for the next 2 or 3 season, why the rush? Ace pitchers don't grow on trees. You hear Sandy talk about replenishing the minors... so you can always be in rebuild stage? The talent he's talking about trading to restock the minors are the young guys up at the MLB level showing they belong. I can't even talk anymore because I'm beyond frustrated with the Mets approach.
In terms of spending money it also goes beyond the MLB roster. Scouting, player development, investment in international infrastructure, etc ... if I had to guess it would be that the Wilpons are nowhere near the top when compared with successful MLB organizations. When one considers the overall value of the franchise it is disappointing - to be charitable.
In terms of selling, absent something catastrophic, I cannot see them doing it. They already have all the money in the world through their real estate empire. Wilpon Sr and Katz are in their 80s - money is immaterial at this point, as it is for their heirs due to the value of the real estate. If they sold what in the world would Jeff Wilpon do with his time. He already has all the money he could ever need. He loves being an executive with the Mets - with Fred and Saul gone he will essentially be the sole decision maker. He is completely inept, but he doesn't think so. Accordingly, I fear there is no incentive to sell, and we Mets fans will be burdened by an even bigger fool than Fred and Saul for decades.

I had 5 tickets for the Mets/Yankee games (Saturday & Sunday) a few weeks back, I sat on them because I was upset. I didn't even entertain the thought of giving them away.
Actually from a pure baseball standpoint, the Bonilla deferral was one of the smartest moves the Mets ever made. In 2000, the Mets were going to buy out the final year of Bonilla's contract which was worth $5.9 million. Instead, they reached a deferred payment schedule with him, paying him $1.19 miilion every year from 2011 to 2035. The implied interest rate in the deferral was 8.5%, which I am sure seemed like a bargain to the Wilpons who were rolling in double digit Madoff returns.
The $5.9 million saved in 2000 provided the budget space to acquire Mike Hampton, who helped get them to the World Series. Hampton then left in free agency, giving the Mets a compensatory draft pick. With that pick they selected David Wright.
If only all the Wilpons financial decisions worked out as well!

It’s time for alderson to get fired from the Mets. But he wasn’t as awful as this thread makes him out to be. He won an NL pennant for the Mets. That’s as big as it gets in flushing.
I should have said he was a mentor to Beane. Sandy was one of the first people to use sabermetric in building a team. The apple didn't fall far from the tree. Winning a pennant doesn't erase the dumb moves before and after. The pennant was pure luck. They caught lightning in a bottle that year. Three of his workhorses in 2015 (deGrom, Harvey, and Matz) were Minaya guys.

Ok fair enough. But he did win the pennant and I don’t think that is fair to take away from him. He made good moves in 2015 like the trade with Atlanta and then for cespedes - yes he backed into that deal. But apparently he hasn’t stocked the farm and hired callaway - who my god looks worse than Jeff torborg.
I think with the Mets the problems start at the top.

I hate that people still bring up Bobby Bonilla. There are tons of deals like that in baseball now. Go look up what Bruce Sutter is getting from the Braves and when he last played or how much Manny Ramirez is getting from the Red Sox or Gary Sheffield or Griffey Jr or etc etc etc.
I only stated that because it was the easiest thing to point out when it comes to the Wilpons. The Mets make mistakes on top of mistake, unlike any other organization.

I get that Smith was probably the best hitter on every minor league team he's been on. And I'm sure his managers wanted him swinging the bat. That's where Sandy should be establishing and implementing organizational policy. Minor leaguers should be developing their entire range of skills needed for the majors, even if it means learning through failure.
