Before I know this has come up before but I’m looking for some suggestions. My brother is taking his daughter to a show at the State on Tuesday and wants to eat prior. Not looking for anything crazy price wise, like Stage Left or Steakhouse 85,, but can you give me some suggestions?Flexible as to the type of food.
Thanks in advance

If you want something nicer then Salt or Cuzins. If you want Asian Roosterspin or Ramen Nagomi. If you want American fare then Tavern on the George, Old Man Rafferty's, Harvest Moon. Hot dogs then Destination Dogs. Mexican is Fat Cactus.

Is Tumulty's Pub shutdown? Be a shame, that's been a great George St landmark for years with the iconic train set.

Calling Destinations Dogs just "hot dogs" is a bit of an over-simplification.

Agree on Salt. It’s really good, never have had a bad meal there. Pricey but it’s one of those places that you don’t feel like you overpaid.

It also has this added benefit for me at least- if my wife is mad at me I just take her there and all is well again, lol.

For Mexican, try La Catrina on Easton Ave. Really good stuff. Casual and affordable. Just don’t expect fancy.

I know that you said not this place, but man I had an awesome meal at Steakhouse 85 recently. But it did cost a good amount.

I would vote for Destination Dogs, Delta's, or the tried and true Stuff Yer Face.

You can eat inexpensively at a local café or caterer. The cheapest option is the canteen, but you are unlikely to be satisfied with your lunch. I like restaurants that specialize in the cuisine of a particular country. This feature allows the restaurant to stand out among its competitors and attract more new customers. Of such restaurants, I can single out Taverna Opa. You can check out their cuisine at https://opaorlando.com/catering/. Here in Orlando is the most popular choice for wedding catering, family reunions, party catering, and corporate events.

Yes. It is now Tavern on the George. Same owner as Olive Branch and he always posts on the board as well @InGregITrust . It's a good place to eat still.
While I still miss Tumulty's, the old owners had let the place go a bit and Doug has definitely revamped and improved the place from what it was. Some very good pub food with a few surprises, like the 20 different kinds of gourmet doughnuts for dessert. Live music several nights a week too. He also recently bought Clydz and my buddy and I went there after the big hoops win over Illinois and had some fantastic apps, but I haven't had dinner there yet. And Olive Branch is still a great bar with very good bar food (my favorite wings in the area).

Salt is fantastic. Not sure what price range the OP is looking for though.
It's amazing - it's where we'll be going for my birthday dinner in a few weeks. The seafood tower is superb and haven't had an entree, yet, that wasn't great (been there several times). But the op did say no to Steakhouse 85 and Stage Left (which are also great) and Salt is in that price range, so I assume that's out.

Sure over the top delicious hot dogs then.
That's not even good enough, lol. They have at least 25 gourmet regional and international gourmet "tube meat" (hot dogs, sausages or bratwurts are the core of each and they're adorned with all kinds of interesting additional ingredients on yummy toasted hot dog rolls) favorites, which are all pretty damn good. I'm partial to the traditional Chicago and Newark style hot dogs, as well as the Conquistadog (Spanish - chorizo, papas, brava sauce and scallions), and the Charles Dog Gaulle (French - duck sausage, duck confit, shaved foie gras, cornichons, red onions, Dijon mustard, scallions). Great bar, too, with lots of old school video games.

These are all good suggestions. Didn't see anyone mention Namli (best Turkish in CNJ, at least), Evelyn's (excellent Lebanese and easily the best outdoor seating area/bar in NB), Tacoria (Tex-Mex) or Sophie's, our favorite French bistro, which is just outside of NB in Somerset.

Saw Jason Isbell at the State Theater on Friday night. Planned to hit up Tavern on George but didn't realize we'd need a reservation. So we ate at George St. Ale House. Typical pub menu, with pretty good, huge burgers and a decent beer list. Turned out to be the perfect pre-show place.

Geez- trying to set up a lunch with a business associate in New Brunswick and most of the places mentioned are dinner only. Was hoping for something better than a pub but also with bar seating for lunch. Not looking for super pricey but better than a beer and burger. Any suggestions

Sahara and Evelyn's are open for lunch I believe. Ramen Nagomi if you want to go the extra casual, non-pub/burger route

Harvest Moon is a good option and centrally located. I thinks it’s better than Rafferty’s.

Many of the nicer restaurants, like Salt and Stage Left have Friday lunch and Sophie's Bistro (just outside of NB on Hamilton St.) has lunch Weds-Fri.

Theres a Panico's in Cape May, wonder if related?

I used to love Gambino's on Remsen Ave, but have not been there in years.
I'm 99 percent sure they aren't. I just went to Panico's in NB before the Waitress show and was not impressed with the pasta. Neither was my wife. It seems like the pizza was the way to go because that's what everyone else was getting.

I've eaten at the one in Cape May as well and that place is fantastic!

Where is the Cape May Panico's? You need to do at least one fancy place while on vacation. Can't beat the Washington Inn. Our little one loves getting dressed up for it. :)
