Missed that one, I recall hearing it was real bad. Speaking of no originality!Greta's career peaked to me when she starred alongside Russell Brand in that terrible Arthur reboot.
But I fully acknowledge that my take is subjective.

I haven't read the source material (Screwtape and Mere Christianity, I have & got a lot out of) and I also haven't examined one up close, but I'm pretty sure lions can be female?I'm the opposite. Hollywood is so bad now, I'd love for them to take a proven IP and just not 17 it up. Yes, there are things that you have to change when you are going from a book to a movie, but you don't need to have a female voice a lion. How is that even going to work?
You have a guaranteed money maker if you just stick to the original story to the extent you can. You have a built in audience if you don't alienate them. I don't know if it's just that they don't like the target audience, don't like the original author or its message, or what. I could get the script writers wanting to make a major change so that they can take more credit for the writing, but why would you mess with casting as a film maker? You're already taking other people's material. How you execute it is what matters. Nobody gave Peter Jackson less credit because he followed the LOTR books. Why not just execute and be happy being recognized a great film maker and printing money?
ETA: I would agree on Barbie. I thought it was great for what it was. Lots of people in hollywood would have leaned into the girl power/girl boss messaging hard enough to ruin the movie. She made a good movie first, and the messaging actually fit into it and did not distract from the story.
Those would actually be a lionessI haven't read the source material (Screwtape and Mere Christianity, I have & got a lot out of) and I also haven't examined one up close, but I'm pretty sure lions can be female?
If you asked me 25 years ago if there would be female doctors and male school teachers, I would have laughed at you so hard you cried.Yes, there are things that you have to change when you are going from a book to a movie, but you don't need to have a female voice a lion. Well I don't know why they're against lions from Memphis
Fact:Seems like it will be a well done movie.
This thread also seems like a typical SPS thread about a movie.
I am looking forward to it.
Question:If you asked me 25 years ago if there would be female doctors and male school teachers, I would have laughed at you so hard you cried.
I mean, that was unheard of....right?!
But damn, we have both now.
It's crazy.
A woman is allowed to prescribe medication and even perform surgery!
And a man is allowed to teach a child!
Since this world is so upside down now, I guess a female voicing a fictional lion is no longer a completely bonkers concept.
It's just kind of funny to me with Barbie that this rich woman in Hollywood directs a major summer blockbuster, and makes a fortune complaining about how unfair things are for all women. She's what all Tik Tok moms strive to be one day.Greta's career peaked to me when she starred alongside Russell Brand in that terrible Arthur reboot.
But I fully acknowledge that my take is subjective.
Did your crusty diaper adhere to your butt cheeks again?Jesus is a fairy tale just like this movie/book
What is my hot take here?Fact:
And you play your role in the thread so well every time. We can count on you for contrarian hot takes.
What is my hot take here?
- Based on the trailer, it seems like a well done movie to me. Thats not a hot take.
- I think this thread is going the way of many SPS movie threads. Thats not a hot take.
- I am looking forward to the movie because I read the series multiple times as a kid. Thats not a hot take.
Holy hell, the thread is full of reactionary outrage and extreme assumptions, but my post is a hot take?
Do you not know what a 'hot take' is? It seems like you dont know how to use that term.

Question:
Is Iowa THAT backwards that 25 years ago you had these thoughts? I could see it being sensible if you had said 75, maybe 60, but 25? Interesting.
Total deal breaker for me. That lazy b!tch has been phoning it in since Sophie's Choice.I know. Not a deal breaker on face value.
But, I named my son after Clive Staples Lewis: Jack.
ETA: His works are clearly personal to me. I'll watch them all...if they can make them all. My guess is they'll get 3 books in and fizzle out.
Coming in strong with the heathenous take! Well done!Jesus is a fairy tale just like this movie/book

^ this entire post is satirical. please read it with ** in mind because the doctor and teacher comments are not what I actually think.
Sarcasterisks are pulling double duty here for satire too.

A female voicing a male lion is going to sound just weird. But damn, we have both now.

Lions can be female. Aslan cannot without gutting the source material. So either you're going to have a female voice for a male lion or you're going to gut the source material. And for what? You have a built in audience of people that will go watch your movie and are going to be inclined to like it. If you don't like the source material, why spend time making a movie with it? If you want to do it for the money, great. Do it in a way that will make the most money. Why pay for the rights to the source material if you don't think it is good enough to use and gutting it is going to alienate the built in audience?I haven't read the source material (Screwtape and Mere Christianity, I have & got a lot out of) and I also haven't examined one up close, but I'm pretty sure lions can be female?
Like I get a person being into a book and also that it's an allegory many find great meaning in - at the same time it's a work of fiction. It's ok if someone re-imagines it; it's not holy writ. It's also perfectly ok not to want to watch it.Lions can be female. Aslan cannot without gutting the source material. Typical Hollywood stupidity. Intentionally alienate your target audience, and then they'll blame the target audience for not watching.Lions can be female. I'm more offended as a stock holder. If you want to spend money as a private company hating on source material, great. But if you spend public company money on the rights to something like Narnia, LOTR, Star Wars, Wheel of Time, etc., just take advantage of a built in audience. Don't spend that money and then **** on the source material because you don't like the audience or because you want to push a particular message. Disney set billions of dollars on fire because even though the entire business purpose of the star wars purchase was that they needed boy centered material to balance out the heavy princess offerings, they had people in charge that just couldn't stand it being just more appealing to boys and men.Like I get a person being into a book and also that it's an allegory many find great meaning in - at the same time it's a work of fiction. It's ok if someone re-imagines it; it's not holy writ. It's also perfectly ok not to want to watch it.
I dunno, this is kind of reminding me of how occasionally a few people get their drawers in a wad over a black santa claus.
You'd think everyone would have learned lessons from watching Disney crater their stock price over stuff like this again and again.Typical Hollywood stupidity. Intentionally alienate your target audience, and then they'll blame the target audience for not watching.
Hopefully they do leave this Narnia gem alone:Not only will they ruin the books, but also the greatest rock song ever.
I was responding to the 'how is that even going to work?' comment. There WERE female doctors and male teachers 25 years ago. But still no female savior.
This line of argument I find lazy. Leftist ideologues change things. Then, if you point out the pointless change, they start in with, "Why do you care so much?" If you care enough to change it, we care enough to notice it and call it out.I dunno, this is kind of reminding me of how occasionally a few people get their drawers in a wad over a black santa claus.
Male school teacher?!?!...but how does that even work? I mean...they are male! There were more male school teachers 25 years ago than today.
Um...a lion speaking is the actual weird thing here. Its an animal that cant actually speak...yet it does. Its a fictional animal character- it can sound however the director wants it to sound.A female voicing a male lion is going to sound just weird.
Buddy, you and some others here care WAAAAY too much when it comes to characters changing in movie reboots or movie adaptations.Lions can be female. Aslan cannot without gutting the source material. So either you're going to have a female voice for a male lion or you're going to gut the source material. And for what? I'm expecting a catastrophe but clinging to hope that it's fulfilling for many new generations...like the State fan I am.
Imagine making a new Black Panther movie starring Ellen Degeneres as T'challa. Then say, "Why do you care so much? It's just a work of fiction. It can be re-imagined." It's just ideology ham-fistedly jammed into cultural touchstones. I'm not even mad about it. It's just cringe and eye-roll inducing at this point.
