I can't blame Clemente at all if he didn't like it. Some Latin players of that era anglicized their names or at least let their names be anglicized. Willie MC-Covey was really Willie Mc-COV-ey (rhymes with anchovy). Later, Jorge Orta (of the famous missed call in the 1985 World Series) was called "George" Orta. I remember hearing Clemente's name in the 1960 series, and he was definitely called Roberto. The announcer commented that he had a rifle arm in right field.Bob Prince insisted on calling Clemente "Bobby". Supposedly Roberto didn't like that.
P.S. Why did I call Bob Prince Bob Woods in my post above? Bob Woods was a guy I knew in college a half century ago. My head is getting soft!!
