With Signing Day behind us and the bowl season just starting how about a baseball question? I saw this one recently and I thought it was a good one and it comes from an excellent source.
In the entire history of baseball only one player has hit a home run in the World Series for three different teams. Name him.

Hints: This happened between 1985 and 2005.
He is not in the Hall of Fame.

Let's see what we can guess without looking it up.

A few jump to mind, but I can't think of a 3rd team for any of them. Manny Ramirez. Jose Canseco. Kirk Gibson.

That would be correct!!!!!!!
Matt Williams spent his entire career with the D-Backs & Giants except for one year with Cleveland.

Another interesting thing about Williams. In his rookie year as a manager he was named Manager of the Year. He only managed one more year after that.

My hint that “Dave Henderson was close to who did” was a cryptic fail.

Both Matt and Dave homered in the 89 series

Do you remember playing the pirates in September when one of their players hit the top of left field wall, the ball bounced directly back to Cleon who relayed to Buddy,, Who relayed to Jerry, who tagged out Richie Zisk at the plate for the 3rd out?

fairly well, very big fan back then

the mets came back from like 13 games back and won the division by about 6, I believe....classic choke by the cubbies

I kind of remember the play but I don't think Zisk was on the Pirates in '69. Could it have been later?

69 confused me as I also vaguely remember the play. Was the unknown relay man Howard Johnson?

From the game's "happy recap."

With two outs and Richie Zisk on first, Dave Augustine hit one destined for the Mets bullpen. The ball’s trajectory, though, sent it squarely off the top of the left-center field fence and back towards Cleon Jones. An inch further, and it’s a home run. An inch shorter, and what followed wouldn’t be possible.

Jones caught it from the fortuitous bounce, turned, and fired to cut-off man Wayne Garrett while Zisk—the potential go-ahead run—rounded third and headed home. Garrett threw to catcher Ron Hodges, perched the plate, who caught it and laid down the tag on a sliding Zisk.

The play was in the top of the 13th of a tie game that the Mets eventually won.

I remember Richie Zisk as being with the Chicago White Sox in 1977. He had an outstanding year. Bill Veeck, who had bought the White Sox the year before, tried to sign him after the season, but Zisk went to Texas instead. Veeck didn't have a whole lot of money. But Zisk could have earned a lot of endorsement money in Chicago -- perhaps much more than with the Rangers.

If memory serves, Wayne Garrett made the last out in the 1973 World Series when the A's came back from a 3-2 deficit to defeat first Tom Seaver and then Jon Matlack to win the Series.

Datold Knowles pitched in every game for the A's. I think it was the first time anyone had pitched in all 7 games of a WS.

Augie it was!!!
Dave Augustine was a career Pirate minor leaguer, he was coveted by the minor league director and Pirates organization because he taught young kids like me how to play the game everyday.
We kidded him constantly, if Zisk was one step faster or he hit the ball one more inch, he’d have been a ten year major leaguer.
I still talk to Augie regularly, he lives in Charleston WV…he’s still a one handicap golfer and an expert fly fisherman.
He was also legendary with the ladies.

Heresy colbert17. He attended my high school, Parsippany High School, and not those Vikings across town. Rumor had it he once hit a ball from the varsity field at home plate that hit the football bleachers. You'd have to see the high school field set-up to appreciate if he actually did that.

Meanwhile, can anyone guess the trivia question that Richie Zisk is the answer to?

Joe Orsulak - good player, long career. He was just after my time but he wasn't at Parsippany High School, he went to Parsippany Hills HS where my sister taught math at the time. My sister attended PHS when Richie Zisk was a student there as well. They didn't really know each other though.

Paul Mirabella - I knew his sister. As a high school freshman, I hit off Paul Mirabella (varsity at the time) during an all classes baseball practice in the early spring. I remember it because I hit a weak grounder to the right side, but it cracked the bat and in the frigid cold, both my arms went numb -- like someone hitting both my funny bones. Took my glove and went out in the field... didn't get feeling back in my arms for about 15 minutes.

I also have faint memories of a freshman or junior varsity game where the team bus went to Montclair (or maybe Essex Fells???). There was a couple of players standing on the infield when the bus arrived. One guy was pitching and the another catching him. Someone on the bus mentioned the "pitcher" was either you or your brother. I could be wrong on the town. It could also have been a summer ball league game. Just too long ago to recall details.

@zappaa , @Source : I played ball at Saddle Brook High School. Do you remember a pitcher from SBHS, Ray Burns, graduated in 69 or 70? The kid was built almost exactly like Nolan Ryan, his power came from his legs and supposedly threw the ball almost 100mph (not common back then). Drafted by the Mets but broke a finger or 2 in the minors and was never heard from again.
