Player 1 - runs -84 HR -30 RBI - 80 SB -8 - MVP candidate Salary -2x player 2
Player 2 - runs - 79 HR - 30 RBI - 85 SB - 5 - much better defensive player

Player 2 is obviously Pete Alonso, because why else would you be posting this?

Player 1 I assume is Shohei Ohtani. If pitching counts as defense (run prevention?) then he is the far better defensive player. He is also far better in OPS, a stat which you chose to exclude.

C'mon man, let it go. Why do you say Pete Alonso is a player no one wants? I don't know a single Met fan who would not have been fine with giving Alonso three years. Orioles gave him five and he took it. Good for him. Time will tell who made the right decision.

In the post game yesterday, Green said that they have spoken to Yan about not celebrating until the umpire raises his right hand. That was about it.

I suspect that the Mets attitude is:
* If Yan turns out to be good, then we don't want to suppress the personality traits that have helped make him good. Maybe we'll ask him to tone it down a bit at some point.
* If he doesn't turn out to be good, then we'll DFA him and he'll be somebody else's concern. Or maybe he won't.

Either way, the Mets aren't terribly concerned. Nor am I.

both players are two way- one hits and plays defense and the other hits and pitches...and one makes 2x the other...

I'm not saying that Pete is better than Ohtani but just showing how even with almost identical stats for this year- one is a MVP candidate and the other is figured to be almost washed up.

And my gut tells me that Ohtani's contract ages much worse.

This is what fans have done for a long time- Quite honestly though, it is more a continued dislike of Stearns even more than the loss of a single player.

He has...but everything this off season was for run prevention, remember. lol

Though, the shame of him being on a tear- it may now have him on pace for 18HR, 80 RBI and .270 at $40+ mil. And he is a DH forced to play the field. I actually like him- but I would like him at $20 mil per year much better.

Every comment from me circles back to Stearns. Somehow Stearns has a way of f*cking things up. And before anyone says he has some good pickups, a broken clock is right twice a day. Even Stearns can't screw up everything.
