2 perfect innings with 3 k's in his first outing. Topped out at 99 on the gun. I think he'll be just fine.

With his fastball/curveball combo, he's as close to Gooden as I've seen. It's electric when he pitches (I know, sounds cliche).

I'll keep my fingers crossed. I'm not going to put too much on a preseason game, but it's encouraging if he was throwing freely with that much velocity.

If the Mets had a couple more hitters ,they could battle Washington for the league title. The pitching staff is top notch.

It he keeps trying to throw 99, he will blow out his arm again within a season.

Yankee fan here , big fan of Harvey. Mets do have an interesting team this year. I'm not sure if the offense can get you to the post season but Atlanta and Philadephia are awful, so who knows.

Harvey will look great in pinstripes one day

I heard the team is not letting him throw curve balls yet.

Yep, when he's 41 years old, the yanks will sign him to a 6 year 80 million dollar deal.

This alone could get me back to watching the Mets, Tom Seaver was my all time #1 favorite athlete growing up. Seeing his birthday on the back of his baseball cards was the same as mine as a 10-11 year old made it that much better.

This statement alone is why Yankee fans and the team itself are going to be in bad shape for years to come. The front office portion of baseball has changed dramatically over the last handful of years and teams like the Yankees have been slow to grasp that realization. The fact is, players of Matt Harvey's caliber are not going to see free agency this early in their career. Yankee fans were saying the same thing about Mike Trout over a year ago and guess what happened, he signed a long term agreement with the Angels. The same thing is going to happen with Matt Harvey. For all those individuals that have said the Mets have been cheap with their money lately, this is exactly one of the reasons why they have been cheap. They are aware that they are going to have to pay the likes of Matt Harvey very soon. If he did not hurt himself last year, I guarantee we would not be having this conversation. In all likelihood, if Matt Harvey can prove he is the same Matt Harvey from a few years ago, the Mets will sign him to a multi-year contract after the season and make him one of the top paid pitchers in all of baseball. From there, in order for the Yankees to obtain Matt Harvey they will have to trade for him which is highly unlikely.

I see this wishful thinking from Yank fans a lot. In reality baseball has changed to the detriment of big spenders like the Yanks. Teams are now smartly buying out the pre-arb, pre-free agent years of their most promising prospects. Big time guys like that for the most part don't see free agency until their 30s now at the earliest (a guy like Trout will be a FA relatively young at 29 largely because he was the best player in baseball as a 20 yr old!) Stanton's deal is particularly interesting. Crazy back load where he doesn't make 8 figures until 2017 and is under contract until he is 38.

Harvey is not technically a free agent until 2019 but I highly doubt that ever comes into play. Expect a long term deal inked mid season with the Mets. Harvey realizes he is one bad throw from surgery again so get some guaranteed money now (for all the hype he's barely made $1mm in career salary so far). The Mets realize this guy sells out the park every time he pitches and wins the back page.

He is the closest thing to Seaver the Mets have ever had.His will to win, and take no **** from anybody will drive this team to the playoffs.Who was the veteran a couple of springs ago, that tried to give Harvey some ****, and Harvey threatened to kick his ***?Loved it when I read it, because the guy was all tattooed up, and a supposed tough guy.

The Mets will lock Harvey up for the long term, they aren't letting him escape anywhere..he is too important to the organization.

And if you bothered to watch instead of looking over just the statistics, you would understand why it was impressive...

1. Fastball topped out at 99MPH.
2. Slider was as wicked as it ever was. He was making knees buckle again.
3. His arm felt fine after the game.

Wishful thinking, hell yeah it is. I already said I'm a big Harvey fan. Can only hope Harvey being a lifelong Yankee fan brings him over to the good guys.

Agree with points above that baseball dynamics have changed, right now. Who knows if the trend holds.

Ok people are running with outing as saying "hes back". I love Harvey and am a Mets fan, praying he is back to old Matt Harvey...but people need to calm down...the problem is going to be consistency. If you look at Stephen Strasburg, he still had his dominant performances, but also was battered around a lot more often after TJ surgery

And a David Lennon tweet:

Ichiro on Matz: "When you see a 95 fastball then a 78 curve ball, that's definitely the stuff of a big leaguer." #mets
