Only caught the last hour, but what a rollercoaster ride for Sheffler during that time, capped off with his pull hook into the thick bushes on 18, but after taking a penalty stroke for an unplayable, he striped a 3-iron from 240 to just off the green only making bogey. 3 strokes up on Smith after 3 rounds with Im 5 strokes back and Lowry/Schwartzel at 7 back, so unless Sheffler completely implodes, I think this is a 3 man race (5 at most). Winds should be light and temps in the low 70s for the leaders, which probably makes an implosion less likely - unlike today's tough conditions.

Jack would have been amazing. He was bombing 300 yard drives with persimmon drivers.
On Wednesday morning, I was standing at the 11th tee talking to the Marshall and he asked me where I was from…when I said New Jersey, the woman next to me said “where at, I was born in Bergen County but we moved to Texas when I was younger”….talking a bit more, she said that her brother was playing this week…when I asked who, she said Scottie. Met his dad too a few minutes later. Super nice family.
Yeh, they lived in Montvale, I knew both parents, and coached his sister Callie in Rec soccer. I used to hit up at 9W and Scottie as. 5 year old would hit there too. I was amazed, he had a driver and was hitting 150 every shot straight down the middle like a robot. When they were moving to Dallas, mom comes up and says good by, she is heading down to Texas with Scottie. The dad would stay behind so she could finish her rec soccer season. She was a very good athlete already in 3rd grade.
Dad is a bit of a horse’s arse, but I am sure he is personable on the course. you should have asked him to say hi to Dwayne Wade (google that one
) or if he was going to heckle anyone on the course about his son this year.

OK so will Scheffler fold? He looked shaky in yesterday's back nine. Will bad mustache mullett boy have the chops to pass Scheffler?

Should be fun to watch. Very hard to win a major the first time from the front. We'll see what Scheffy's made of today.

Tiger looked old and tired yesterday. Is it just from not being back in full shape or not fully recovered from his injury or has age finally caught him?

Don’t dispute that…but Magic and Bird entered the scene when the league was struggling and put it back on its feet. Certainly Jordan is an absolutely transformative figure and made every kid want to pick up a basketball - much the way Tiger did for golf.
I think it’s amazing he was able to play 4 rounds with his injuries walking that course. Not sure you noticed but every time Tiger walked past the gallery, everyone was watching him walk from behind and looking down to his feet/ankles. Must not look right to most.
Scheffler would have to completely collapse in the last six holes to lose this lead.

Think you have it opposite. He was +0.24 SG with his approach and was -1.35 SG putting for the tournament. His putter absolutely killed him on Saturday and Sunday
Tiger 3 putted four times and 4 putted once on Saturday. That cost him 6 shots in putting alone against the field yesterday.
#12 is a great par 3. Separates the winners from the non winners.

Tiger was in a lot of pain. Could see it in his walk. No way you can play with the concentration needed at Augusta with that going on. Gave him credit for making the cut.
Yeah, definitely. That last walk looked brutal for him.
If you've never been there, television does not convey how big the elevation changes are. Walking that course is a chore on GOOD legs. Walking downhill on a bad leg is brutal.
I was thinking about how I feel after a 5-6 mile walk and I don’t have any rods inserted in my legs. Then you have to gather yourself and be totally precise and focused on a tough course when your body feels like sh$t. It really was an achievement to get through the weekend for him but he wouldn’t want to hear that.
That said, this should all be about Scheffler. Totally impressive and consistent all weekend long.
Scheffler is the best player in the world right now. No doubt about it. And he is 25 years old.
Smith looks like he could shotgun a Foster’s oil can or he could have been seen smoking a cigarette or something else at the North End of my high school in the 80s.
You could really see that today. He deserves major probs.
I wonder if he'll play in the other majors.
He already committed to play at St. Andrews in one of his post round interviews. He did not commit to the PGA or US Open, but said he’ll try.
I think we’ll see him in the PGA, US Open and Open Championship. They are each one month apart and he can rest up for each.
Not sure he’ll play in other Tour events until next year or when he is closer to full strength.
Tee to green he seemed strong at the Masters. His putting took him down imo.
Southern Hills is the next major. it doesn’t have the elevation changes of Augustaa, but it is a spirited walk especially the opening and finishing holes on both nines. Tiger tends to play courses he knows well and I don’t think he’s played much in Tulsa, so I’d bet he’s out.
Edit: I forgot that Tiger won the 2007 PGA at Southern Hills. He also played the 2001 US Open there. So maybe he’ll play there after all. It’s a great track.

BTW I've been ignoring this site until I finished watching the tourney on delay.
So I was wrong about Scottie possibly folding. Both he and Cam (He deserves his name being used) looked shaky at the start but maybe seeing Cam shaky too gave him a reason to relax a little.

Almost. Wow, what a round by Rory, though, capped off by that incredible bunker shot on 18, followed by Morikawa holing out of the bunker seconds later. But Rory was just too far back of Sheffler - or at least given how Sheffler played, shooting a 69 that became a 71 with the 4-putt on 18 - although he did pass everyone else in front of him, including Smith. Had a friend's retirement party this afternoon/evening, so just caught up on DVR - what a fun tournament!
Sheffler's pitch on #3 that luckily went in for birdie (would've been 20 feet past the hole and likely a bogey if it didn't hit the flag) was the shot of the day for Sheffler. Who knows what happens if he bogeys there, although I kind of think he would've just plowed through and won by a couple. He's on an incredible run and he's got the game to be very good for a long time.
