There are ways...just like the secret exit out of the Purple Lot, there are ways.![]()
Yeah because idiots cannot distinguish between Staten Island and Long Island.
It is one thing if you are from another area but I have heard people from NJ make the error.
Ok.....…. thanks for your input. And in all my 54 years on Gods earth and being a life long resident of New Jersey I have never heard anything crude from a fellow resident of New Jersey (nice line of B.S. there...RIGHT?) And lets not forget about the bird so many of us in N.J. give people while driving. Ahhh the list can get longer! When you are traveling and you hear a crude loud mouth they are usually from SI.
proudnj- using gang activity in a specific area as a knock on the quality of life on LI is beyond dumb--you prove you know nothing about LI and are just a prejudiced guy who generalizes without knowledge--for what reason? did LI bite you in the ***?
I have NEVER in my life heard that before. There is one problem and one only:
People from Long Island have long looked down at everyone else, ESPECIALLY New Jerseyans, and think NJ is a pit while, in fact, there’s not much difference between the two (at least from 195-North). Oh and they’re basically Met, Jet, and Islander fans so there’s that lol!
Having lived in both I am not sure how I could do that, but yeah. Also Jets yet but do not care about baseball and am a Rangers fan (to the extreme irk of people who realize I grew up on LI and in NJ).
I'm here for work, I don't get this place. Traffic all over. More highways than anywhere I've ever been. One minute I'm in an urban area (Hempstead), I cross over railroad tracks and it's like "Boom!!!" an oasis of trees and beautiful neighborhoods. In NJ there's usually a buffer zone (I'm going route 9 south in Howell, once I pass Home Depot and 195, it gets noticeably different). Here, the neighborhoods just flow into one another.
Property taxes are insane. I tell people I'm from NJ, they look at me like I have 6 heads, like NJ is on another planet. For some reason, there's a large disdain for Staten Island. Has anyone else encountered the same thing?
You can’t read I’m talking about loudmouths from SI . Lay off the Booz.Ok.....…. thanks for your input. Nice how the link mentions “The Power Broker” by Robert Caro which is the definitive biography on Robert Moses. The problem with LI is that you have to go through NYC. Before Robert Moses was minimized/pushed out, 2 long island sound crossings were proposed that never came to fruituon. They would have helped greatly in alleviating traffic

I think its the chip on the shoulder of Staten Islanders. They know they are the forgotten borough.. the "least" of NYC.Long island and New Jersey have one connection. A strong disdain for Staten island.
Another thing that would have been different is if there was a subway line connection. SI to Manhattan might still be too far but one from SI to Brooklyn might have helped with the “connection” thing.I think its the chip on the shoulder of Staten Islanders. They know they are the forgotten borough.. the "least" of NYC.
I think if they were part of New Jersey originally.. as they should have been.. it would be very different.
Instead of being the bottom of the barrel in NYC they'd be a powerful county in New Jersey. They have half a million pop now.. middle of the road for a NJ county.. my guess is if they were NJ it would be more.
I have to go to Melville for a meeting next week from Morris county. Best times of day to travel to and fro? (Other than 2am)
I hope they're paying you wellI commute to Melville every day from Summit. I've tried everything for over a year and this is what works for me:
5:45 am leave home, get to the GWB by 6:20, Cross Bronx to Throgs Neck Bridge, Cross Island to LIE to Melville. I usually arrive between 7:10 and 7:20. We've got a nice gym in our building so I workout, shower and I'm at my desk by 8:30. Some days it doesn't work that way, most do. Friday mornings and Jewish Holidays are the best.
Now, going home is a whole nother story! Most days I work until 7 pm and do the same route in reverse. Most of the time, I'll hit the GWB at 8 pm and get home by 8:30. I've left work at different times in the afternoon and it can be miss, hit or miss, miss. I've left at 3 pm thinking it was early enough but it took me 2.5 hours.
Fridays: Great for the morning trip. Horrendous for the afternoon. Yesterday I left at 12 pm and it took me 2.5 hours due to mid day construction. Sometimes I wait until 7 pm to leave.
I listen to a lot of Podcasts, sleep over in a hotel Wednesday night and drink lots of diet coke in the car. Speaking of car.... The main traffic problem is the sheer volume of trucks on the road. If it was just cars traffic would move more efficiently and safer. Trucks suck! After testing the ride before taking this job I realized I had to prioritize safety over fuel efficiency. I bought a Ford Explorer to drive the 130 miles round trip.
I hope they're paying you well

Last 20? Maybe not, but before that you had Chad Bosch and Antoine Moore, two pretty good running backs.Aside from Scott Vallone, has RU had good players from Long Island in the last 20 seasons?

Amongst all of the political indoctrination Rutgers attempted in Expos... I learned that Moses was an evil racist who intentionally kept highway overpasses in Long Island low enough to prevent city buses from reaching the beaches.Nice how the link mentions “The Power Broker” by Robert Caro which is the definitive biography on Robert Moses.
I suggest you all read it if you get the chance.
Moses had some great ideas. But it’s also good not all of them were implemented.
