Reading Darling's book now, Ronnie said Dykstra was yelling racial remarks at Oil Can Boyd during the 86 WS..

It’s simply a bad look for the Mets and their small fan base. You never see this type of public fighting on any yanks championship teams of the past 20 years. And they won way more rings. Shows me mets aren’t a close knit group. Not a true team atmosphere in queens. Likely explains their lack of success and the disarray in the fan base. They should try and model their organization after the yanks.

If by "way more rings over the last 20 years" you mean two, then yes.

And next year at this time, it will be ONE more ring over the last 20 years.

Huh ? Does that mean the Mets should start ordering steroids by the pallet like the Yankees players?

It's not wholly surprising that Dykstra was essentially found to be libel-proof. It is surprising, though, that the court did it on a motion to dismiss at the start of the litigation.

The Mets clubhouse trainer was one of the key guys in the Mitchell report. Providing major leaguers with steroids for years.
And Mike piazza didn’t get all that bacne at age 30 from centrum daily vitamins. At least the Yankees won.
As far as I am concerned none of the steroid players stats from their careers count. Hank Aaron is still home run king and Babe Ruth is next . Others may think different and that is their opinion. I always tell my nephews that it is Aaron and Ruth.

Does that basically mean the judge thinks the whole thing is just a big pile of manure ?

You mean the clubhouse brawls with Billy Martin and Reggie Jackson and Ed Whitson didn't happen? You mean the whole clubhouse hating Rickey Henderson didn't happen? You mean the animosity between Jeter and A-Rod didn't happen? Or Steinbrenner going after Hideki Irabu? Or Dave Winfield? Obviously one of those front-running Yankee fans that never saw a losing season and has rose-colored glasses on. Steinbrenner's money fixes a lot of problems. Ignorance is bliss

Many guys in the era didn’t take roids. And how do you know guys now aren’t doing something.
Roids or no roids bonds 2003 and 2004 seasons were the greatest in mlb history.

That's guesswork. What is clear, though, is that the lawyers for the publishers, which I'd guess took the lead on this motion, did a good job of convincing the judge to make a holding like this so early in the litigation. If the firm representing Dykstra takes an appeal, it would be interesting to see if the decision holds up.

Yeah. I didnt realize the Stienbrenner/Winfield war, Steinbreener being banned twice, The Straw That Stirs The Drink, Billy and Reggie in Boston, Clemmens/Pettite/ARod/etc, were not in the Bronx.

And yes, Dykstra and Backman are pure scumbags. And the Mets were too partied out to win more than one title in the 80s.

Some of the '86 players, including Strawberry, have said that they never heard what Darling says Dykstra did.

Lenny Dykstra was my favorite player of all time. I loved the way he played. I think I attended his first game as a Phillie and he made a diving catch in CF. RIght then, he was my guy. Since then, it hasn't been good. I honestly wish he would just go away.
And just to stir it up, both NY teams have had plenty of awfulness, as have the Phillies. Stop acting like one is better or worse than the others.

The alleged comments were yelled by Dykstra from the on-deck circle as Boyd was warming up for the first pitch of game 3. Safe to assume there was a lot of crowd noise. The nearest point of the visitors dugout to the on-deck circle is about 90 feet away and the furthest is maybe 50 feet further away. So, someone in the dugout not being aware of Dykstra yelling and/or not being able to hear Dykstra wouldn’t be a surprise. Hernandez was focusing on the task at hand and corroborates that Dykstra was yelling something but couldn’t make out what it was.
Hernandez, Backman and Dykstra were all outside the dugout loosening up by the on deck circle. Dykstra was closer than 90 feet to the dugout bat rack, but certainly other parts of the dugout were farther away. Darling said he heard him clear as a bell.

Darling’s statement:

“Late Friday afternoon I was informed that the court had dismissed the lawsuit brought against me by Lenny Dykstra.

I am pleased with the decision.

I would like to acknowledge my agent Steve Rosner, as well as my lead counsel Michael Berger and his second chair Ron Kreidman, for all their hard work.

I am grateful for the support of my media partners SNY, Turner Sports and the MLB Network during this legal matter and my health scare about a year ago.

And of course, I would like to thank my family, friends and colleagues for their unwavering love and support.

With this behind me, I will have nothing more to say about this matter. Most importantly, everyone please stay safe during these most difficult of times.”

All class.
Should have just said, "Thanks for the publicity Lennny, now everyone you can read more about the story in my book"

In baseball, I don't believe you have to be a close knit group. Just do your job. It is very different than other sports. You could have your teammate you hate the most on second base and your feelings about him don't matter and can have zero effect on your own task at hand which is to get a hit and have him score.
And I think in a very dysfunctional way, those Met's of the 80's were a lot closer than many of the feel good nice guy teams out there. We all know they made the playoffs in 86 & 88 but to many disappointments, missed the playoffs in 84/85/87/89/90 but if there was a wildcard team, they would have made it in 84/85/87/90 and the 89 team would have missed by 1 game. That is a hell of a run for any team.
We can never compete with the Yankees history. And now 90's and early 2000's are "History"...We are now a decade past anything significant the Yankees have done. And in the last decade, only 1 NY team made the WS.
Yankees are still much better run, they have a great minor league system and money to spend and they do spend it. But over the last decade, you really don't own a lot of bragging rights. Always good enough to either make the playoffs or come very close. But never good enough to be the last team standing. We can't brag for losing the WS in 2015 but that means you Yankee fans have nothing to brag about either as you spend the money and can't even lose the last baseball game of the year...
