Anyone have any feedback (good or bad)? My daughter got assigned there and they were built after I graduated (84) so I obviously can't comment. Personally I would take living across Sheridan from lake/beach as major plus. Seems odd she got assigned there as both she and her roommate are math majors.
I think your daughter will enjoy her stay there, if she likes the arts/artsy kids/creativity, etc. A good swath of the residents will be in that super artsy mode so she she get prepared for that. But if she's okay for navigating that sea, she'll do fine.
While I didn't live in Jones, I had plenty of friends who did, and I visited often. Here is what I know/remember:
Jones has a different feel to it, to be sure. There are lots of music majors, theatre majors there--as their majors' buildings are on south campus. Aside from a different artsy vibe, Jones does have art studios, practice rooms, and the Great Room (a flexible performance space) that make it very different. They used to regularly have theatre performances in the Great Room (Wave Productions had their entire seasons there, back in the day).
Of course, Jones sits at the southern end of campus. It is closest to all the arts buildings and journalism. If you have to make the trek to Tech--good luck, it will be a loooong walk.
