Nah we weren't racist in the 1940s. It was great. MAGA!!!

Once again you're obfuscating by creating a straw man to knock down. Nobody on this thread said racism didn't exist in the 40's. We just provided facts that contradicted the narrative you wanted to create. And considering Trump wasn't even alive when these events occurred, bringing him into this discussion is merely another distraction to draw attention away from the fact that your narrative was factually incorrect.

I'm glad you admit racism existed in the 1940s. No white country would have been nuked. No white people would have been rounded up.

You're entitled to your opinion. What's missing is factual backup because there is none. In fact, although it numbers are much smaller, there were Germans rounded up and interned during WWII. And has been mentioned repeatedly, Germany was defeated before there was an operational nuclear weapon.

Lots of guys with PHD’s in History here and family members who served but the vast majority of you loud mouths never served a minute in the US Military.

Well congratulations!!! You've just put up the most irrelevant post of the day!!!!
No one here was talking about personal valor or "I would have done this".
It's a discussion of history. A discussion of facts and alternatives.
I don't see the correlation of military service and this thread.
Oh and by the way, in addition to be an avid reader, while not being a PHD i do have a degree in History.

The United States of America have also committed some of the worst atrocities this world has seen too. One great example is the history between the United States and Iran. Read up on that and you will see and read up on our foreign policy in Central America that initiated what Guatemala and El Salvador is today. We all love this country and the 4 years in the USMC opened huge doors for me but we are no angels.
Dont mean to hijack this but read this book (Nelson Denis' WAR AGAINST ALL PUERTO RICANS) with an open mind and it would prove some of the above correct.

And thank you for your service, Sir.

Now you're against books with facts and history. You're probably one of those great people who gets along with everyone as long as they agree with you. How dare someone have a different opinion.

You keep proving my point.

I'm done wasting my time with a senile baiter, I'd call up Al Sharpton if I was interested in that.

Enjoy another Mets loss and YOU'VE BEEN BLOCKED :Hammer Nails:

Is that your own definition, or is it published somewhere. All my googling suggests they are one and the same, just when gi joe does it to a bunch of tojos, we simply prefer “internment”.

I stand corrected this could be the most outlandish post on this thread.

Number of inmates executed in Nazi concentration camps:
Estimated to exceed 6.000,000
Number of inmates executed in American internment camps: 0

Okay, what's your point? That it wasn't racist to round up all Americans of Japanese descent and force them into concentration...sorry...internment camps?

My point being that it seems that you're trying to equate the two but we just use the term "internment" to justify it because it was just "a bunch of Tojos".
p.s. Tojo is a proper noun.

We can go back and forth playing word games and quoting Mr. Webster. We all know what the term concentration camp means.

I understand your argument. If we are being pedantic, concentration camp is *not* a proper noun.

Actually it wasn't "all Americans of Japanese decent". It was substantially all Americans of Japanese decent residing on the West Coast. Now that was a substantial number, over 100,000, but not nationwide. And in Hawaii, a US Posession at the time, a relatively few were interned.

What do they call the camps in China?

I said Tojo was a proper noun.

You're treating concentration camp as a proper noun. It's not. It's a general term and my usage is appropriate. It was a racist program. That makes me wonder, fairly, if it was easier to indiscriminately kill a half million tojos than a European lot. Particularly where we all seem to agree that we were a racist nation generally in 1940.

No we DON'T all agree that we were GENERALLY a racist nation. There was racism, but it was not our national identity as you imply.

I recommend a little less Alinsky and a little more history.

I was using the term as it is generally recognized in conjunction with WW II. In the light of looking back at things 80 years in the future it was a terrible thing to do to a group of Americans. But much more understandable in the situation we were in in 1941.
Didn't say it was right, didn't say it wasn't based on race, just saying it's understandable.

You know who isn't a racist? Joe Biden.

I really don't think is either. I just think he doesn't realize what he's saying half the time.
In the interview where the reporter asked about him being tested the most alarming part for me was at the end when he couldn't spit out the word "fitness".

I'm glad you admit racism existed in the 1940s. No white country would have been nuked. No white people would have been rounded up.
But killing them in the millions with conventional weapons was ok? If we were racist we would have had black, asian and latino troops storming the beaches.

Joe Biden was a few months short of his 3rd birthday when the Hiroshima happened. I don't hold him responsible or consider it a manifestation of racism on his part. If you want to discuss his current status, feel free to start a new thread. But given it would be 100% political I predict a very quick lock or deletion. In the meantime, this is just more obfuscation with respect to the subject at hand.

I would be very interested to hear your responses to the facts presented in this thread regarding how the Japanese were treated. Did you read them?
By the way, I am not a MAGA guy.

Have to smile at those who believe that at Hiroshima, we crossed some sort of irreversible moral threshold. That threshold had been crossed long before. If you believe it is morally acceptable to kill a whole lot of innocent civilians by dropping a whole lot of bombs on them, then clearly it is morally acceptable to kill a whole lot of innocent civilians by dropping one megabomb on them.

Which is worst; to starve to death 85,000 soldiers in a Death March and it's aftermath of years in prison or bomb and wipe out that same number in an instant ?

When people are willing to agree that BOTH are vile and awful things to happen to mankind from governmental decisions, then we have a hope of peace.

But then you have to move over to various 'religions' in the World next.

When you 'fix' religious wars, then we can look at one man dictatorships and the citizens that facilitate and allow that person to control their lives.

Wake me when that happens. I'll be with Ted Williams....
