He is easily a top 5 or top 10 player of all time.
Babe Ruth
Ty Cobb
Willy Mays
Ted Williams
Roberto Clemente
Joe DiMagio
George Brett
Ken Griffey Jr
Mickey Mantle
Stan Musial

Which one of these are you taking Aaron over in their prime ?

Cobb's style of baseball and the way the game was played isn't even applicable.
Totally agree. He has numbers but he would never be in my top 10. Guy had serious issues on and off the field.

I took a look at baseball reference and Aaron won 1 MVP but was in the top of the ballot almost every year.

Arguing that Aaron was a compiler shouldn't even be a negative in his case because that would be shortchanging him on what it takes to compete at or near the highest level day in and day out, avoiding injury to the extent possible with the toll that the grind of being a professional athlete takes on a body. Add to that any additional pressure or burden that he shouldered chasing a legend.

An above average player simply never becomes a top 5 or 10 compiler. That player doesn't compile long enough or consistently enough to really matter in the grand scheme of things.

Yep, Aaron was consistent...consistently great. Several of his contemporaries were great players too.

The chart above showing how many times he was in the top for MVP shows he was much more than just good. He was near the top almost every year

Some of the great debates (I won’t call them arguments) are the careers of incredible players like Joe D, who like Williams had 3 years of his absolute prime taken away by WW2 and also suffered from serious year ending injuries.
How do you measure and account for that.
He’s the best player my dad ever saw, better than Williams.
Can anyone even ask the question who was better Aaron or Joe D?
Look at Joe D’s stats.
Who was better? i can’t answer that.
Put Mays and Mantle side by side, both 25 years old and both free of injury....who was better...lol
They were both equal.

Numbers don't tell it all. Your peers of your era tell you everything. Yesterday was sad and magical at the same time. The respect and love for Henry Aaron was beautiful.

I agree and it is silly for anyone to disparage any of their careers. They were great players all of them.

Another interesting coincidence: forget the exact year but not Aaron and McCovey wore #44 and tied for home run lead with 44

According to one report it has been suggested the Braves should be renamed the Hammers.

One of my favorite trivia question is what pair of brothers who both played in the majors have the most combined career home runs;
Hank and Tommy Aaron

Q: Hank (755 home runs) and Tommie Aaron (13) hold the record for most homers by two brothers in MLB history, with 768. What pair of brothers is second?

A: The Murrays with 508 (Eddie, 504; Rich, 4).

Just spoke with Joe Torre about the death of his old teammate and beloved friend.

He said my dad and Henry were very similar in the way they expressed themselves.

Mr Aaron never preached or complained, lord knows he had plenty to complain about.

He was always grateful, praised his teammates and spoke through his living example and actions.

Both men were all action no talk

Check this out Dad, my father had a pretty good day in 1943....Norfolk, Piedmont League.
Drove in 23 runs in a double header

Not a bad days work Zap. Your Dad was a young kid in the Navy in WW2. My Dad was also in the Navy in WW2, although he was in his late 20's when drafted. I was already around. They called him Pop. Like your Dad he saw plenty of action only in the Pacific on a Destroyer radar picket ship at Okinawa & other engagements.
Didn't make the Leagues like your Dad but was a real good baseball man. Played all through the Depression & after the war in the Queens Alliance League. Taught me the game as I am sure yours did you. Managed teams all the way into his sixties.
