I guess Pike misused him so badly he's broken forever. That's sarcasm for those of you that can't tell.
Gavin .176 from 3. Last guy on bench basically. Crazy that he was briefly a *5. Maybe balling for community college next year, or no ball at all.
Scoring 21 points per game, 42% from three, and a whopping 88% from the foul line.
Since most 3-point attempts are open looks, at any level (and the foul line is the same everywhere), it’s obvious he can shoot, as Pike often said.
Maybe he just rushed it when he was here (he wasn’t shy about hoisting them up, so confidence probably wasn’t an issue).
It is still college basketball, Ogbole came to RU with 3 years of eligibility remaining.

I think he got a glimpse of our NIL numbers and never recovered. I think it may have happened right around 11/11/2023.
I need to make a contribution to this thread....guess who is getting decent minutes and is shooting 45% from 3?

Whereas Cliff Omoruyi is platooning at center for Alabama and Mawot Mag and Gavin Griffiths are barely contributing at BYU and Nebraska, respectively, Simpson is averaging 8.9 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.7 assists in 32 minutes per game. Scored a combined 4 pts against Texas Tech & Texas. He's averaging 8.9 ppg so far this year vs 8.3 ppg last year. We didn't lose much here.
Needs to get that prescription checked, did Pike a huge favor by leaving.
Honestly I've been wondering if his eye injury caused permanent damage, maybe with his depth perception, and ruined his shooting ability and perhaps his court vision overall.
Don't see how because it happened his junior year and he shot well as a senior.
Sometimes, the consequences of an eye injury may not become noticeable for months or years after the damage occurs. These late effects may all result in vision loss. Continued follow-up care is essential to preserve vision after an injury.

It also can simply be that he's not got the mental makeup for high major basketball and is struggling under the weight of expectations.
Of course, but he's developing/improving a little. His awful shooting stats seem to be up 5% in total and from 3. We wish Derkack, Williams, or Davis were shooting 34.5% from three.
Maybe they have, but felt his vision could or would adjust, but maybe it hasn't to the speed of high level college hoops (vs high school). I'm really not looking to argue on this. I said I was wondering if his eye injury caused more damage or possibly worsened and is disrupting his game re: hand-eye coordination, depth perception, spatial awareness, etc. Be my guest if you want to work on a more detailed ophthalmology analysis to answer my curiosity lol.

His talent is undeniable. Kept hearing that last year he was the best player on the team when it came to pickup runs. He just can't get his brain to slow down and he doesn't have a good feel for a high level division 1 game. Not that uncommon. We've all played with/coached kids that absolutely WOW you in practice or just messing around but never seem to shine in games. Reverse is true as well. One of the great things about team sports imo.
Gavin averaging 2 points and change in 8 minutes average playing time on Nebraska. Playing time going down too now that playing BIG opponents. Man how lucky RU cut loose of him.

He was mis-scouted. It happens. There’s no denying the miss on the defensive end. Bad does not adequately describe his starting point. That has nothing to do with eye sight.
Not sure what time of day you posted this, but his last 2 games, including on the day you posted this, have been good.
Not that I am clamoring for the return of Dean.
His vision doesn't allow him to see the opposing players as they blow by him.

Could be, I was referring to his shooting problems. I don't question at all that he's not athletic enough to play big league D or drive or rebound at this level.It could also be that he sucks
