He was my favorite player until he defected. I don't have animosity toward him (as some on here do), I just don't care as much about his career as I would have had he stayed.
Same here - loved how hard he played and how much he improved. Was hugely disappointed he left, but it worked out ok for both and while I certainly care less about him after leaving RU, there's a big difference between that and the infantile responses above.

Wow, what an unbelievably bad take.
This is what pike said about him:

“Eugene has been a dedicated and valuable member of the program who exemplifies the qualities of a Scarlet Knight. Eugene’s contributions on the banks have been immeasurable”
until he ran away

Good for him. I’m proud of him and grateful for what he did for us (which is a **** ton more than any board poster judging him ever did for RU).

As for his transferring, I wonder what his side of the story is. The children complaining about him here sure as **** don’t know anything at all. I’ll bet if we peel back the onion of the story and their identities they’d be apologizing to him. He owes us nothing. We owe him gratitude.

He will never be a legend at Rutgers because he transferred out in the middle of the night right when we were on the cusp of completing the turnaround. The guys that stayed are the ones that will get the warmest welcomes back.

Amen. Pike took a chance on Eugene. Developed him into a legit player and then he ditched in the middle of the night .

The way Eugene left had a much different feel than any other transfer (eg, Myles, tez, young) and I think a LARGE part of the fanbase feels this way

For example - Myles got a big heartfelt ovation when he returned.

There is no way in hell Eugene gets that reception. No way

…and he wouldn’t deserve any applause

He **** on his own legacy

Call us children but I think the majority of the fanbase feels this way

No we don’t. We don’t owe him anything. That said, I have no hatred for the man and wish him a successful NBA career.

Yes! There is a ton of depth to most every transfer story … Tez, Young, Myles, Eugene. If those stories ever get told in their pure unadulterated form it would be extremely compelling.

But there are many on here who don’t want those stories to be told. “Keep them in the past”.

I’m of the opposite opinion. Tell us about the locker room dynamics.

#1 quality of RU player - they don’t abandon the team.

He was a ball hog and un-fun to watch. Pike went out of his way for this kid...scheduled a game in Toronto for him. I'm grateful for what he did...we got better as soon as he left. Yeboah >>>> Eugene. Of all the guys...he's probably the only one that's not welcome here anymore.

The following reply is not because of what your wrote on this thread but because what I think of you as a person more generally based on other threads:

Be advised that anything I write on this board is for everyone except for you. Your thoughts and behavior have led me to think so little of you that I will never care what you think or have to say except to the degree I chuckle over your ignorance. I promise never to put you on Ignore because I enjoy observing you make a fool of yourself. You can reply if you like, but I won’t read it.

I loved Eugene and was one of the early group of his "defenders"...you could see potential oozing out of him.

And Pike making an urgent trip to his hometown tells you all you need to know about how important he was to us and the team.

That said...he left in a horrible way...which is why I don't root against him, but don't root for him either..the way I root(ed) for Kiss, Myles, others.

At the end of the day, we (Rutgers Basketball) are in the best position because we have a HC who has built/is building an incredible foundation and a program we can all be super proud of...and is good enough that we can essentially forget about guys like EO....like I have ;)

He wasn’t abandoned by the team.
What motivated him to leave then? It wasn’t for lack of playing time. I doubt it was for a bigger stage or payday (either would be fine though). Aren’t the rumors that he was ostracized? My point is that we don’t know who is at fault and I’m not going to assume it was EO. Maybe he is and maybe he’s classless. Just saying I don’t know ****, nor do you. With that being the case, withholding judgment is the right thing to do. It’s just not as fun.
