I think people confuse rut and pre-rut. When you see chasing thats pre-rut, she is being a tease and ain't ready. During the rut the does are ready for some lovin' and they aint leaving the bedroom.

My wife has been in pre-rut for years now... When you gonna post the calendar for the marriage rut? I have been baiting with wine and Sir Mix-a-Lot, but no luck. Contemplating going out west to a paid hunt ranch I heard about in Nevada.

I passed on a buck this past weekend that had a growth on it's chest about the size of a volleyball. Wth was that and does that buck need to be taken out of the herd?

Sounds like the deer is having gender issues. You should have asked for their preferred pronoun.

I just can't sign off on that ... I've watched moon phase and deer movement for almost 50 years and have learned there is a definite effect. Full moon means I climb into my stand around 10:30 - 11:00 am and hunt till about 3:30 unless it's during the rut and then all bets are off. Anything less than 75% full I hunt during the normal am / pm hours ... I think the radio collar thing shows they move around some but I would bet it's mostly with-in their bedding area.

I was wrong. They move “less than 20 feet farther” during a full moon vs a new moon. Zero was incorrect. 19’ is correct.

Grunt call with snort wheeze worked in east central MS this am.

Got to stand late and had one snort 3-4 times as I was getting in stand at about 6:30. Went on and climbed up anyway.

Grabbed grunt call and grunted twice. About 5 min later I saw a deer moving through trees at about a 100 yards out. I grunted again he stopped, looked my way and evidently either saw me moving or caught a whiff of scent he didn’t like.

He wheeled and snorted 4-5 more times as he ran away. I grunted 3 times and gave him 2 snort-wheezes.

About 3 min later I saw him again and got him in scope this time. Main frame 8 with triple brow tines on right side.

This is true. I’d never shoot a rifle on just 5 acres of land if there are any homes nearby. Now, if there’s just woods surrounding the 5 acres, fire away.
