Just caught up on the DVR. Helluvan opening 30 minutes. Disallowed US goal (was offsides, but also thought maybe there was a handball on them before the goal), then Turner gets rocked and not even a yellow card, then Weah making an absolutely effing stupid play to get a straight red and then that amazing goal by Balogun and then the Panama goal on a great shot, but a lucky deflection. Going to be tough to win this one. Weah simply has to know better than that. Inexcusable.

Turner was, IMO, out of position on the Panama goal, based on how the first attacker was being defended by our first defender. Should’ve been more to his right making it very saveable.

Beautiful ball there by Scally to Balogun and then off the post, although he was just offsides. Reyna playing really well this game, IMO.

US almost has to tie this to have confidence of going forward, as a tie means we likely go through on goal differential vs. Panama (assuming Uruguay beats Bolivia and then if Panama beats Bolivia). If we lose and Panama wins, we're likely out (again assuming Uruguay wins later). I'd hate to have to beat Uruguay to advance.

It blows my mind how terrible soccer coverage is, with regard to timely, comprehensive replays, relative to almost every other sport. Sometimes it takes 30+ seconds to see a replay of a controversial play/goal/foul, whereas we get those in a few seconds in the NFL, NBA, NHL, etc.

Took 20 seconds to get the first replay of the possible penalty...and the mic's aren't working. Unacceptable.

Pulisic is just amazing sometimes - those recent possessions of his dribbling around and through several Panama players were fantastic. If only Balogun had waited half a sec on his shot, Pulisic would've been there for the header.

Pepi needs to do better there - probably should've just brought the ball down and shot.

Holy crap - straight red on a Panama player for a brutal kick at Pulisic (way worse than what Balogun did). Still 5+ minutes likely left to tie this one up with stoppage time.

How this is only 4 minutes of stoppage time is beyond me.

Should be double that with all the stoppage.

There was a 3-minute VAR review of the potential penalty on the US and over a minute lost after the melee after Pulisic was hacked, plus one typically sees 3-4 minutes in most games from various injuries/subs, alone, so should've been at least 7-8 minutes, IMO. I don't get it at all. That and no yellow on the guy who took Turner out (ended up injuring him) were just mind boggling. Should've been able to at least tie a team that's not as good as you are when down one guy, though, and we didn't.

Having to sub Turner hurt because it limited options for adding fresh legs on the field. The Weah blunder was crushing.

I would have left Balogun in another 10 minutes or more. Balogun didn’t seem too tired to me at that point. I still would’ve put Pepi in, just later on. But yeah, the GK sub meant not being able to put in Musah or another mid.

does berhalter survive this debacle?
Only if we advance, IMO, and that probably means beating Uruguay. Let's hope for Uruguay to win big tonight, so they're in and maybe they treat us like Portugal treated Georgia in the Euros, "letting" them win (or at least not putting all their best players out).

Don't get mad at me. Your beloved men's soccer team blows. Direct your anger appropriately.

You don't even know the guy's name who got our red card (it's "Weah") and you're unable to even type semi-accurately and yet I'm the clown. lol. Do us all a favor and go back to the RWCJ.

I thought Horvath was pretty awful when he came in.

Played very nervous in several spots, and the winning goal came after a sequence where he earlier failed to come out for a cross where he would have been under little pressure to gain possession.

I didn't see the match but this is pretty bad. Panama can probably beat Bolivia and Uruguay will probably beat us. By my math that means we'd be out. And if so, GB has to be out.

Under that scenario, you are right, we're out.

Other scenarios are more complicated. We could beat Uruguay and be out. Or we could lose to Uruguay and still advance. All depending on what happens in Panama v. Bolivia.
