Nice new contract for Orgeron. He’s going to show his worth after this off-season and all the losses. I’m interested to see if he’s up to the task and how next year goes.

The college football coaching world needs more Ed Orgerons (and Mike Leachs too!). The guy seems very genuine, and he wears his heart on his sleeve. Good for him.

Also from footballscoop. More and more lately I feel like I'm reading about NFL organizations lol. Saban started it and now everyone is slowly following along.

From footballscoop:

Dave Aranda is set to hire a major figure in the world of SEC recruiting, as sources tell FootballScoop that Austin Thomas will leave Texas A&M to join Aranda in Waco.

Thomas has spent the past two seasons as the Aggies’ associate AD for football personnel. We’re told his title at Baylor will be general manager of football operations.

Thomas and Aranda worked together at LSU, where Thomas spent five years, rising to the role of general manager in 2016. He was the second personnel director in college football and the first in the SEC to hold the GM title.

Thought he would have been a solid backup hire for Babers considering Long interviewed there and hired his DC Zach Arnett at SDSU who then up and left him high and dry for Leach at Miss State.

Seems like a pretty good hire for Gonzalez. Now he's the DC for his former DC.

From footballscoop:

Ole Miss: Source tells FootballScoop Bryant defensive line coach Marquise Watson is expected to join Lane Kiffin’s staff. Chris Partridge is a mentor to Watson we understand, having coached him at Paramus Catholic. Watson spent the 2018 season assisting with the defensive line at Rutgers.

Just aa I thought.

Trying to target Jersey with Partridge and Watson.

I don’t follow recruiting and I’m sure NJ is a part of it but just tweets and news I come across give the impression Partridge is a top notch recruiter overall not just for NJ. Don’t know about Watson.

Ran across this tweet a little while back.

Not a name I'm familiar with but let's see if Graham's knack of choosing OCs comes through again.

From Wikipedia,
Gary Joe "G.J." Kinne III (age 31 years)
Coaching career
In 2017, Kinne was hired as an assistant coach with SMU under coach Chad Morris. When Morris joined the University of Arkansas before SMU played in the Frisco Bowl, new head coach Sonny Dykes chose to have Kinne serve as offensive coordinator and play caller for the bowl game.[26][27] Kinne eventually followed Morris to Arkansas in 2018 as an offensive analyst.

On February 25, 2019, Kinne was named an offensive assistant coach for the Philadelphia Eagles, working with special projects.[28]

Not coaching news but related to Leach's move to Miss State. Thought it was kinda cool.

I loathe those stupid cow bells. No noise makers allowed per NCAA rules, but somehow that goes unchecked in Starkville.

Marvin Lewis joining Herm’s staff from senior assistant to co-DC with Antonio Pierce.

Can I pat myself on back for guessing this move and posting it here ( half an atta boy might be right, since I said DC not co:DC)

Even though the hire was made after Tony White (Edwards first Gonzales replacement) after being promoted to DC from the DB Coaching position, left a little after being hired as ASU's DC for the Orange's DC job and I guessed Lewis would be hired before White promoted to DC.

I missed that news on Syracuse hiring their DC (must be slipping lol). Babers seems to have a fixation with SDSU coaches lol. Interviewed Rocky Long, hired Arnett before he left to Miss State and now another former SDSU coach.

Clemson making Tony Elliott the highest paid OC...average of 1.7M/yr. Extended Venables contract and he's the second highest paid DC at 2.4M/yr.

Piggybacking on the raise for Elliott, just saw on footballscoop Clemson has the highest paid staff in college football now. 9 of the 10 assistants make 500K or more. Adding up the 10 assistant coaches the salary pool comes to 8.145M...half of that eaten up by Venables at 2.4M and Elliott at 1.6M. Said the 1M dollar salary of Scott who left for the USF HC spot was pretty much eaten up by raises for the rest of the staff.

Source tells FootballScoop that former Davidson (FCS – NC) and Bucknell (FCS – PA) head coach Joe Susan will join Greg Schiano’s staff at Rutgers.

We understand Susan’s role with be as an assistant to the head coach.

Also, Football Scoop reported hearing :
Rutgers: The program is adding Princeton (FCS – NJ) running backs coach Jamel Mutunga as an offensive quality control coach,

Wow, surprising is the word but I get a feeling that MSU might be thinking Fickell
might want too much and they want to make sure they can move on from him quickly
A Cincy fan in the other thread said that’s old news and a lot of speculation Fickell is a done deal. Seen some random twitter talk that thinks so as well and that he’ll bring Freeman his DC and a 4 star qb along with him. Cincy fan thinks the Fickell part is true but the rest still up in the air and too soon to tell. I think Freeman would be a solid name to replace Fickell myself.

Looks like Fickell to MSU wasn't the done deal like thought and the plane to PSU after a Cincinnati stop to talk to Luke might not have happened because Pry already had shown little interest.
The way things are shaping, looks like a lot of MSU's targets don't feel MSU is a plum job at the moment.

edit: Fickell might have remembered the expectations of the Buckeye fans when he was their interim HC and felt it better to remain at Cincy than go through that again.
Replacing an almost legend is a lot harder for the new HC with the unreasonable exceptions of some of the fanbase there than taking the job at a traditional power down on its luck.
Luke knew what he was in for as the MSU HC and probably felt, right now, it wasn't worth going through the way the program looks to him.

Well McElwain has been mentioned and a fallen star like him could be more open regardless of NCAA and he’d be a solid choice. Was even wondering about Michigan man Les Miles lol. Would he join the enemy for a better opportunity than Kansas.

Bret Bielema might be their best choice in a field of 2nd rate contenders that might be the only choices MSU has

Yea his name was brought up by Feldman too but then I wouldn't expect any modernization from him which I think they need. Who knows maybe he could recreate his Wisconsin magic with his power football style. Didn't work for him in the SEC but Wisconsin/Iowa still manage but they are in the weaker half of the conference.

If folks here thumbed their collective nose at Bielema, how could a solid program like Michigan State give him a scintilla of interest?

Haven't seen some of the candidates put forward by some of the folks here to replace Ash being mentioned for MSU job.
Butch Jones might have been mentioned,
but don't think the G-5 favorites of some
posters have been mentioned as candidates for MSU

Edit: expect to see some being put in the mix as the list of turn-downs by those MSU contacts grow
