Since China is one of our main food importers, we should be very concerned. Especially with the lack of regulations going on these days.
Trying not to turn this political, but the FDA/USDA/EPA/NIH are all working at a level below of which they were intended. Also, given the fact that food is being sent to China for processing (chicken being the latest), one would be best served to stay away from all China facility related/processed foods. Yet, our version of FDA has decided to NOT post the fact that our meats are going to China to be processed before being sold at our local grocery stores.
Best strategy, locally owned/processed foods and avoid meat.

You think we are sending either live animals, or fresh meat, on a 21 day trip, to China? Then "Processed" and sent back on a 21 day trip? Because it's "cheaper".
Most Chinese Exports go through Port of Los Angeles. https://kentico.portoflosangeles.or...09e-47b3-83ad-b09d58edec67/2018-facts-figures. "Live animals" or Animal products for human consumption is not listed.
What you suggested doesn't make sense, And It's not backed up by Data. China is 7th for US Export of "All meat products" and 15th in "Live animal" exports behind New Zealand.
so happy this wasn't going on then. I couldn't imagine being trapped and quarantined at the airport.
Wuhan is a pretty awesome place though.
the general tso's chicken by pf chang isn't Chinese?
It's not feasible and not true. Yes, we do allow China to export processed cooked chicken products to us, but the original poultry has to come from the US, Chile, or Canada I believe. But no, you aren't buying raw chicken breast that was grown in the US and then got processed in China. That's just dumb. We did make a deal, or are in the process of it, of allowing Chinese grown and processed chicken to be imported. Part of that is they are dropping their restrictions on the import of US raised chickens that stemmed from the 2015 avian flu outbreak. Tyson and some others own processing plants in China already, and that's all about the wages they can pay over there. However, even that won't mean your raw chicken at Kroger came from China. There might be some raw frozen products that pop up though.
ETA: We got pretty lucky during that avian flu outbreak in MS. Other poultry concentrated regions weren't as lucky. If a farm tested positive for it then every bird that was being grown for something like a 50 mile radius was incinerated and those farms had to test flu free for some amount of time before they got another batch.
I'm concerned. I'm 50 and headed to Hong Kong in a couple of weeks.
