Yea just heard the same. Amazing to hear how many musicians credit The Beach Boys and Brian specifically with influencing their musical career. An amazing talent. Supposedly been suffering from dementia. RIP Brian!
The Beach Boys actually recorded a Manson song "Never Learn Not to Love" .RIP Legend, Pet Sounds is a masterpiece.
His brother Dennis Wilson was associated with Charles Manson and his girls.
A somewhat sad ending for many music lovers who followed the Beach Boys history and their musical careers. Ironically Wilson was only several days shy of 83 and actually beat the actuaries age prediction for a US male. His drug addiction while hiding in his “ room” more than likely caused his late life dementia. Also Wilson abused food which tells you even with $$$$ you can’t prevent the inevitable happening. Death waits for no one. RIP … guess you’ll be finally sailing on the Sloop John B with grandpa.
A lot of musicians of that era suffered from dissociative disorders of various types. They also had high rates of family members connected to the military and intelligence communities. You’d enjoy this (several chapters related to the Wilsons)…"Wilson was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder and mild bipolar disorder. Since 1965, he regularly experienced auditory hallucinations in the form of disembodied voices. Wilson referred to the voices as "heroes and villains" that contributed to "a life of scare"...According to Wilson, he was introduced to recreational drugs by an acquaintance during a Beach Boys tour. His hallucinations emerged early in 1965, about a week after his first time using psychedelics" Wiki
Schizophrenically inclined people can be very creative around the edges. A lot of thoughts and ideas can come together in ways that are unusual but can be genuinely artistic.
The "hallucinations" can be quite gory and shocking. I've known people to see bodies hanging from trees, disemboweled and faceless people standing near beds upon awakening, grotesque phantoms in grocery aisles and such. A girl I knew couldn't take it anymore and jumped out a window. A lot of these people dont seem crazy and can be at major universities studying . While speaking to you they might see a dead baby behind you
I would actually compare him more to Syd Barrett. Unfortunately the latter never regained his musical abilities.RIP to a talented musician. Not unusual for creative artistic types , especially musicians to suffer from mental illness/anxiety. Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, Amy Winehouse, Bruce Springsteen among others suffered from bipolar (manic depression or other forms ).
