I use an app called “Glucose” to keep track of my daily readings. It also gives you an estimate of your A1c,

I just started testing my blood sugar this morning because of how I've been feeling... I tested 137 this am and was wondering if anybody that has blood sugar issues could give advice on diet and whatnot... I don't have insurance since I'm self employed and have paid put of pocket for the last 7-8 years... TIA
I wouldn't say it's super bad and nothing's imminent. My advice is your wife should lose some weight and work at getting her figure back.

Allopaths and the medical system have failed us when it comes to nutrition. The naturalpaths are equally full of BS.

Gotta search through the literature and studies and many people are doing that. That is who you should pay attention to. Not the drug pushers or plant pushers with their pharmacology and infinite cleanses

next we need to figure out what is appropriate human food. It ain't vegetables.
I'm predominantly plant based...used to drink a lot of pop, eat a lot of meat, processed foods, smoked(still smoke weed) and was an alcoholic...at age 25 my blood test was horrible...over 330 in just triglycerides. Since changing my habits, my blood screen results are damn near a perfect score at age 32...I walk alot but do not work out. The most drastic improvements came when I gave up drinking and then eating meat. So speaking from experience, plant based eating is healthy and I have the test results to back my claim.

When I was diagnosed as a diabetic in April, I was told to count carbs and walk 3 times a week for at least a half hour. They told me to have 3 meals a day and limit the meals to 45-60 carbs. They also allowed 15 carbs for a snack. I find this diet plan to be the easiest to follow as it is definitive.

When I was in a pre-diabetic state which I was for years and years my Doctor said the best diet for Diabetics was the Dash diet. That is recommended for High Blood pressure as well as Diabetics. She also said the mediterranean diet was the 2nd best choice. They said the Atkins diet should only be short term and is not safe for long periods of time. I did all 3 diets at different times and they work but I didn't stay on them as I didn't find them definitive like carb counting.

Animal foods are the healthiest foods you can eat. Full of nutrients, low in anti-nutrients and are bioavailable. Plants are much more tricky and problematic.

The problem with Keto is that many use nuts and seeds, greens and vegetables to stay low-carb. These foods can wreck you, especially if you rely on them daily.

I also forgot to mention. I am self-pay as well. If you are self pay and of limited income there is a clinic called One-World. They have a sliding fee for Doctors and drugs according to how much you make. This may be a cost savings for some folks. And finally you sometimes can get 80% off of medications through singlecare. It's like coupons I think. You may be able to get that from your local pharmacy if you ask for it? Not sure. I am sure you can find out more about these programs surfing the web.

You can buy insulin OTC from Walmart. It’s called Reli-on Novolin for 24.99. Just have to figure out which dose is right for you.

Eliminate ALL processed sugar. Replace with SweetLeaf Stevia Drops which do not raise insulin levels. They have about 20 flavors including Coke & Root Beer. My fav is Vanilla
Creme.
Also, eliminate things that turn into sugar. (google-"foods that turn into sugar")
Digestive Enzymes-As we age, the amount of stomach acid decreases reducing our ability to extract the nutrients from the foods we eat.
ProBiotics-Repopulate digestional fluora
Dilute 1shot of Apple Cider Vinegar into 1 8oz glass of water and drink nightly. I used to just do the shot and chase with a cup of water. It's nasty but eliminates heartburn almost immediately.
Eat Organic(Is there any commercially produced crops that aren't sprayed with glyphosate? Eat organic to eliminate that toxin from your body.(google-glyphosate affects on the body)
Eat Healthy fats(Coconut Oil & Avacado's are 2 good ones)

Changing what one eats is very difficult. But once your body starts screaming at you, it's what is required if you want to stay away from someone who "practices" their profession.

3 years ago, I changed to a Gluten-Free/Dairy-Free diet. When I started I weighted 205. This morning I weighted 158. I've had to make these changes because I have a health challenge doctors couldn't diagnose. When I was about 31, I was trach'd and told I had about 2 years to live. I'm 59, this August ;0). Doctors(including 15 hospitals & Mayo Clinic) couldn't help me. I had to educate myself. In hindsight, it all appears to have been food related, I suspect - Glyphosate. Now, how is it that they spend all that time in medical school and cannot even diagnose a problem with someone reacting to the foods they eat, or better still, the toxins they apply to the food supply?

Good luck. I grew up a sugar addict. I know how difficult it is to eliminate sugar from your diet.

I always considered myself a morning person and my glucose readings proved it.

I take the slow acting once a day metaformin and insulin every night. After logging my glucose for awhile I was surprised to find that my pre breakfast readings were as high as my post meal readings. (mid to high 130's). I crash before 10pm so this is my longest fasting period and common sense would indicate that it should be low!

Turns out I have the "Dawn Effect" which means my body starts pumping chemicals which in turn raises my blood sugar to give me energy for the day. I don't know if this is why I have been skipping breakfast for 40 years or if this was caused by skipping breakfast.

Anyway Meo brought up apple cider vinegar. If I drink the apple cider vinegar solution the night before? BOOM! I get low 100 numbers the next morning. That stuff really does the trick for me. Problem is it's very acidic and hurts my teeth even though I chug it fast. I thought you were only suppose to do a tablespoon or two in 8 oz of water? I don't know how you could do a whole shot! Is that safe? Also I thought I read somewhere that your not suppose to do this more than a month as they are unsure about long term effects? Not sure on that so I have been leery of doing a lot of it.

It sure jump started me to lower readings though.

Good point on the continuous usage! I usually "pulse" most stuff, which means take it for 5 days, off for 2(pick your own schedule). Among my many health challenges, I used to have reverse paralysis. ACV cured that. I haven't had to use ACV for a while now, but whenever I feel heartburn coming on, I will drink some the night before.
