OT: Best 4k TV

I'm looking at buying a 4k tv for Christmas. What are the best ones out there and what are some I need to avoid?

I bought a 65" LG not sure of the model, bought it at Cowboy Maloneys in Tupelo and I absolutely love it...I used to be a Samsung TV guy but the LG had a better picture

OLED. Doesn’t matter the brand. Just make sure it is OLED. I think Vizio has them now and their prices are better.

Bad experience with a brand new Vizio. I have two Samsung’s that are great. Their customer service is too. They sent someone to fix one for free outside of warranty.

Vizio is a crap shoot. You got a 50/50 shot at + - 2 years before they crap out.

Stick with LG or Samsung. I had an LG that lasted 15 years, still works, gave it to my nephew. Have a 12 year old Samsung that still works.

Just upgraded last Christmas and went with one LG and one Samsung.

I've always had good luck with Vizio's. Matter of fact, I'm watching the first Vizio I ever bought right now. It's got to be 20 years old. 32" 720p I have in my shop. I've bought maybe 5-6 more through the years. Still have them all except one which was a small 24" that was in one of the kid's room for 10+ years. It died. Anyway, just my experience.

Not a 4K but I have a 42” vizio that leaves a burnt image after I’ve been watching it a while, like if I’d had it on foxnews for a while you can see the ghost of what it was on.
aggravating but no bad enough to get it worked on

I also had a bad experience with Vizio. Bought a new 65" a couple of years ago and it just died after about 6 months.....just came home one day and it was completely unresponsive.

Replaced it with a 70" LG and I have another 60" upstairs and I've been pleased with both.

And I've had good experiences with Samsung as well. I bought a 40" in 2009 that's still going strong. Also put a 55" on my back porch 2 years ago I've had no issues with....and that one is uncovered and gets some moisture on it during bad weather.

Check out rtings.com . Most up to date info and they buy the TVs they review. They also provide setup info for said TVs.

Thanks for the info. I've been looking at LG or Samsung because they seem to be the highest rated in all of the reviews I've read. Most of what I've read says to look for HDMI 2.1 and if possible find a tv with 4 HDMI inputs.

Sony. I've got their version of a qled(Triluminos color) and it's a great tv. Look at a 900h or 950h. The 950 is the better but more expensive than the 900h.

First of all, if you do not have access to 4K it can be a money saver to purchase a smart tv 1080. You can also find lower end 4K which Have very good picture and even some have good reliability. If money is no object I would purchase LG over Samsung. The LG seems to have crisper, brighter image and is not nearly as quirky as Samsung (I have a 55” Samsung 4K smart). I also have 55 inch LG I like much better. All that said, I also have a 42” Toshiba that is at least 10 years old that is my favorite one to watch at home! DirecTV is our provider ( I am headed toward you tube very soon).

Do they even make a 1080 anymore? Maybe in a 32" and below.

Avoid any brand that uses Smart Hub. Had to sign an agreement about 50 pages long, to let them into my house at their wish and to hand over my first born grandchild.

I have a 65” Vizio that is 8 years old and have had zero problems. That being said, if I were to buy a new tv and didn’t want to pay OLED prices I would buy the LG X900H or X950H.

Replaced a 10 year old Samsung that was working fine just wanted slan I upgrade. I have a couple of visits that work well too. I bought my parents a Vizio that is now 10 years old and it’s going strong also

Looking at OLED vs QLED. I would like to go with OLED but have concerns about the brightness of the room it will be in (lots of windows). Anyone have OLED experience with OLED in a room with lost of natural light?

I've got a 65" LG OLED and really like it, but you have to be careful and not use the "Vivid" picture setting or you'll get screen burn-in. OLED prices are coming down. I had a Samsung before and it died when it was less than two years old.

Amazon Prime, a couple of channels on both Dish and DirecTV (part time on both), a few other sources. I can't really tell the difference in 4K and 1080 that's broadcast - supposedly the LG OLED upconverts really well. Probably need a larger screen for the benefits of 4K to really show up. Either that, or sit real close to the screen.

Dish has the Ohio State/Indiana game on now in 4K on Channel 540-01.

There's not much that can be done about screen burn-in other than replace the screen (panel) and it's not worth it. I had a pretty expensive 65" LG OLED that burned in pretty bad after less than two years. Fortunately, I bought the Best Buy extended warranty (LG warranty doesn't cover burn-in even in the first year) and they replaced the television. I think that's the only extended warranty I've ever used, but I've only bought a couple.

I have a 65" LG OLED that I bought 3 years ago which has a great picture and I can highly recommend.

However, my favorite is my ultra short throw Optoma CinemaX P1 projector. Sits about a foot from the image and puts a 4K 120" image on my light gray wall. Best at night or with some room light control (as are most TVs). Image is great and would be even better if I got a screen.

Yes, OLEDs are bad about screen burn-in. On an LG, don't use the "vivid" picture setting, but if you watch a lot of something with a continuous crawler, like ESPN or one of the news channels, or a channel that keeps their logo in one place, burning is likely in my experience. Seems like most channels do at least one of the bad things.

Never had a Sony, but a friend of mine does and he really likes it.
