I think Jeter and Walker, not a schilling guyWill Jeter be unanimous #2?
Walker or Schilling?
Any of the steroid guys? We will find out in 30 mins.
Jeter unanimous?Jeter and Walker. No Schilling.
Congrats to both, very well deserved.
That dickhead reporter is probably from Boston. No rationale reason for not voting for Jeter. One vote shy. 396
Alan Trammel shouldn't be in. Let's not use that mistake to justify another mistake.Lou Whitaker, the great Tiger 2nd baseman is not in the HOF. He should have gone in with Alan Trammel last year. They're the longest running double-play combo in MLB history (18 years). Whitaker's stats: https://mlb.nbcsports.com/2019/12/02/the-hall-of-fame-case-for-lou-whitaker/
When Griffey did not get 100% then who else should? Trout some day?
Stupidity or jealously or both.I wonder what would be that one person's reasoning for not voting Jeter.
3465I wonder what would be that one person's reasoning for not voting Jeter.
I am a Met's fan but we have to face facts...First thing most people think about Jeter is that he was more of a "baseball player" than a stats guy. But how many players in MLB history have played 20 years, all at one position(one of the toughest positions as well) and the same team and their 162 game average is over 200 hits, 113 runs 51 extra base hits. And it wasn't like he was just a punch and judy guy either- he also averaged 15 HR, 20+ SB 8 top 10 MVP years etc...
Even if a player averaged those numbers over a 12-15 year period, playing SS, he would be HOF.
But congrats...I would just take away voting rights to anyone that didn't vote for him.
Disagree. His stats would stand up in any era. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/t/trammal01.shtmlAlan Trammel shouldn't be in. Let's not use that mistake to justify another mistake.
His stats are meh. Borderline "very good" player, no where close to a HOF'er.Disagree. His stats would stand up in any era. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/t/trammal01.shtml
Could be a Met fan, not voting for Jeter. That dickhead reporter is probably from Boston. No rationale reason for not voting for Jeter.
As for Walker, very borderline, but I would vote no.
True, probably still crying over this:Could be a Met fan, not voting for Jeter.
Wouldn't that be a shame?Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens, arguably the greatest hitter and pitcher of their generation, continue to remain well short of induction due to performance-enhancing drug ties. Bonds appeared 60.7 percent of submitted ballots, Clemens 61.0 percent. Both have two years of Hall of Fame eligibility remaining, though their support has stagnated in the 50-60 percent range the last few years. Barring a sudden jump in support the next two years, neither will qualify for Cooperstown.
Joe DiMaggio didn't get in on the first ballot so does that mean that no one should? The BBWA have a huge ego and think they are god. But just because Babe Ruth or Griffey didn't get 100% that doesn't mean that no one should.
There were quite a few writers back on the old days that just felt that nobody should get in on the first ballot unless they were comparable to the first class- Ty Cobb, Walter Johnson, Christy Mathewson, Honus Wagner, and Babe Ruth.I wonder how they explained that
Schilling certainly isn't and I lived in Philly during their incredible run. Regular season number meh but playoffs were great. If you vote people based on their off-season numbers than Brian Doyle should go in first. Which is stupid and why career numbers are the bases of entering. In my mind neither Walker or Schilling are hall of famers.
The problem is back in his day and earlier, there were always at least a handful of writers that NEVER voted for anyone on their first ballot. It doesn't justify it but that was their thought process. When Griffey did not get 100% then who else should? Trout some day?
Schilling had a few HOF moments, but not a HOF career. Different things.Schilling certainly isn't and I lived in Philly during their incredible run. Regular season number meh but playoffs were great. If you vote people based on their off-season numbers than Brian Doyle should go in first. Which is stupid and why career numbers are the bases of entering.
I disagree with those that thing Walker doesn't belong. Too me he is a no brainer. Not a first ballot guy but definately belongs in the HOF.
Obviously the experts disagree. His stats are meh. Borderline "very good" player, no where close to a HOF'er.
Now that would be Insanity.Could be a Met fan, not voting for Jeter.
The "experts" are often wrong - see Harold Baines and Ted Simmons.Obviously the experts disagree.

What credentials do you hold? Yeah, just as I thought, you're a good fan, but no expert. The "experts" are often wrong - see Harold Baines and Ted Simmons.
