It's been 100° or more 20+ days so far this summer. I miss my pool more than I would my left testicle. If I lived on a lake, I would own a boat because I would use it on the weekdays. I live in a sweltering desert land... We used and will again use the **** out of the pool. I figure counting the depreciation, chemicals, energy, and upkeep, the pool will cost us $3500-$4000k per year. That's a ****** vacation for 5-7 days. It's a hunting club membership. It's a 2 pack a day Marlboro habit. It's a set of rims and tires for my mall crawler.
What part of Austin are you in? We are in the process of selling our house and purchasing another and have decided to get a small pool like you are talking about. 300 days a year of sun here and you can swim most of the year. I imagine it would be different in the Mid-South.
