Funny thing is I never played that course. My mom used to live in Lakewood, so we would play Eagle Ridge. Another decent but short course. I am a huge golf architect guy. Tillinghast courses are my favorite. Love the Robert Trent Jones false front greens. I like Tom Fazio courses for the aesthetics. Hate Rees Jones courses for some reason.

Learned to play at Lakewood Country Club. Would leave Lavallette just before dawn. Tee off before it was opened and pay the old man with the german shepard on 10 tee. We weren't the only ones that did this. Went through a few pairs of golf shoes that summer as your feet were soaked by the time you walked off the first green. BTW even in 1977 you didn't need to wear pants [roll]
Back in the 60's caddies at Essex Co could play Tue-Fri after 3 or 1 hour after the last tee time in the Summer. We'd lug our clubs from the Valley up the hills to the course and hope you didn't get a loop after noon. It was so much fun being the only ones on the course some days jumping from hole to hole. If we were only playing 9 we'd often do 1-5 and 9-12 so we could play the Par 3 11th.
If we can make this a fund raising event for the B1G build, I can talk to my guy and figure out the details.

Seems to me since the 4th of July the town is as packed as I've ever seen it. Haven't been inside Leggetts for months. The longer I worked in bars the less and less I went into one
Poor Tiger. Even his swing speed is deteriorating. 117. Roughly half the field was swinging faster. He will be a force on the senior tour when he gets there, provided he stays relatively healthy.

He had the lead on the back nine of a major championship. Here's a list of players who have also had the lead on a back nine of a major this year who didn't win:

He was that close to being a major champion. Looks to me like his issues are between the ears. The minute he gets into the lead, the bad swings start happening, immediately.
Will be interesting to watch and see if he can get that famous focus back. Obviously he has the game to win out there. Came close too many times to come to any other conclusion.

Always wanted to play Essex County. Unbelievable they gave the caddies that level of daily access and that the course was ever that empty.
Played Morris County. Probably the course where the front and back nines were as different as any I've seen. That front none is just awesome.
Played SV a ton in HS. I need to take a ride out there and have another go.

My wife and her friends spent a weekend there taking lessons and playing the course. I haven’t played it but it looks cool being adjacent to the Delaware. I may play it this weekend since I will be out that way.
It’s def a “boys” club. Kids and wives are frowned upon. The only exception is Canoe Brook.
When I played there a few years ago, there was a large bear walking across the driving range. I commented about him to the kid that was collecting the golf carts. He said, “Do you want to meet him? Get in.” I jumped in the cart, and he started speeding up the hill, right for the bear. I was amused at first, but when we got about 50 feet away, I started to get concerned, and asked him how close he intended to get. He said, “don’t worry, he’s a big baby, and will run!” Sure enough, the bear took off, and this kid followed him right to the edge of the woods, getting as close as about 20 feet away. Far too close for my liking, but very exciting.

ECCC is exactly what you describe.
But all the rest have strong women’s and kids programs.
The pro back then, Jack Mitchell, apparently felt the more you liked golf and the more you played the better you would be at the job. Yes as I remember it would be pretty empty on weekdays during the dog days of late July and August.

His only real chance at a major is at the British Open, where old guys tend to do well.
This last tourney was everything that’s been predicted. The young guys simply have better games now. There is such an obvious difference.
No one beats father time. It’s the young guys game now. And man are they fun to watch. Rory with a 410 yard drive. Are you kidding me? Koepka is a beast. DJ with an incredible run and JT played near flawless golf. Look for him to go on a run. So many great players. A true golden generation of American golf.

I wonder if the comment on the broadcast Saturday about Tiger being worn down playing so much after a long time away from competition is valid?
Most guys aren't in their 40's, didn't go thru the injuries, and long layoff. A week won't change that much.
I agree with you that winning a major is a long shot and being a consistent Top 10 at this point probably is too much to expect but I think winning a tourney or two is a real possibility.
As Fred Couples, whose had to deal with long layoffs himself, said a few weeks ago it will take time. I don't know if we can judge Tiger's "comeback" till next year.
Exactly. He’s old and injury riddled. That’s been my contention all along. Youth will be served. In sports that’s never more true.
Tiger will never be good enough to overcome the hot young player of the week.

Probably get a better turnout if it’s held at Rutgers GC. A weekday in September is a good choice.
Hard to say never. Unlikely that Tiger can do it 4 times in majors to pass Jack. Unlikely that Tiger can be consistent enough to be a top ten player. But I'm not convinced that he can't do it in a certain week. Sergio was a real surprise last year at Augusta and that looks like a one time thing. Watson gave away The Open at age 60. Even Jack's '86 Masters was a one time resurgence.
You all saw the leaderboard, Sunday at Carnoustie. That was the last major played. How can you say he can't win another major? He was right there.
