OT: Annual Tiger Woods Comeback Thread

With so many great names in contention (Woods, Spieth, Mcllroy, Rose, Fleetwood, Kuchar, Zach Johnson, tomorrow is shaping up as a classic final day .

ESPN has a story tonight , that Woods winning might be the best Story in Golf History. A legend coming back from physical, spiritual , and emotional breakdowns to win a major 10 years after his previous one.

I don't know about that. He was so much better than everyone else that it stands to reason, an older, less than prime Tiger can still play at the same level of the best players of today.
Watson, even though he lost the playoff, was the greatest golf tournament story of all time along with Ouimet.

The only thing ridiculous here is your post. It's easy to say he might finish top 5 after 3 rounds, duh. But after missing the cut in 4 of his last 5 majors, not so easy to predict he'd finish better than 50th. Especially after finishing 11th and 23rd at the TPC and Memorial, before tanking at the US Open - oddly enough you were nowhere to be found predicting he'd miss that cut, so forgive me if I dismiss your input on the Open. Also, I've been playing golf reasonably well for 35+ years and watching closely for even longer, so that should count for something.

It'll certainly be a huge win and a great story, but I'm not sure it'll even be Tiger's best story - that might still remain him beating Rocco Mediate in the epic 2008 US Open on one leg, as Tiger had knee surgery 2 days after that tournament.

Agree with the others that Ouimet's win will likely never be surpassed in major golf from an upset perspective, short of some other unknown amateur winning a major. Or maybe Happy Gilmore, lol.

So what is your other screen name? Cali previously said Tiger could win a minor tournament. Just not a major. I agree with that. This was the one major where Tiger could win. The Open courses are suited to Tigers knockdown iron game/creativity. It’s a shame those shots were his downfall today.

Overall Tiger looks healthy and will be on a lot of leadersboards. He just need to show he can close one out.

He did. Even so, this is the golden age of American golf. The amount of talent under 35 is incredible. Especially the really young guys. Even the second tier are now threats to win majors. Makes tournaments very exciting. Imagine when they are hitting their prime.

Cali, while I tend to share your take on Tiger, you have to give the guy credit for hanging this far today. Guy was within a strike of winning this thing in the back nine. I didn't think he physically or mentally had it in him to win a major again but he showed big this weekend.
