Bobby Petrino just needs to stay away from motorcycles and he'll be a "sooey" in for being the permanent Piggy Master
And taking married women for a ride whose husband was in the Arkansas administration! Arkansas is going to sell its soul to bring back Bobby P full time!

Penn State is getting turned down by the BYU coach! Penn State may end up with a much lesser coach than James Franklin! Which would be great for Schiano and Rutgers!!!

Klieman’s just 58, maybe needs a break before he comes back somewhere else, maybe the FCS. He had an emotional presser after one of the games this season.

I would have thought Penn State , having all their trouble finding someone, would go after Hartline
The most accomplished position coach in college football is no longer eligible for that title. Ohio State offensive coordinator/wide receivers coach Brian Hartline is expected to be named the head coach at South Florida, sources confirmed to FootballScoop on Wednesday. CBS Sports first reported the news.

For PSU at this point, it probably makes sense for them to promote Smith. If things don’t go well in the future, they could look to change coaches when there is a better market for hiring HCs.
agree, right now they are looking like a fool with the way they are being ignored by the top candidates

Daboll is the only other name I’ve seen tied to it. Nothing with regards to Campbell. After that, who the heck knows unless they end up keeping Smith.

EDIT- should have kept reading before posting, but looks like it may be moving in the direction of Smith.

Look, they screwed themselves waiting so long to line someone up. Also, maybe my timing is off, but didn't the Florida and LSU jobs come available after they fired Franklin- there was a paucity of top candidates available.

Looking at Smith's record:
Iowa- lost 25-24
Ohio State- Lost 38-14
Indiana- Lost 27-24 (only team that put a scare in Indiana)
convincingly won 2 of their last 3 games.

Yeah, 3-3 is nothing to get excited about but considering the 3 teams he lost to and the close scores with Iowa and Indiana, what is the harm of making him head coach?

Have watched several of his pressers and interviews- he's very plain spoken, not flashy, but very likable. Obviously the players played hard for him. He has been at Penn State for the last 11 years. Pay him $4M/year to start and if it does not go well, find a new coach next year?

More noise on Matt Campbell to PSU, we'll see if it's just bluster or real this time lol. I've thought he should've been one of their top choices from the beginning. You might not get the big splash after losing Franklin, but he's just a tough hard nosed blue collar kind of guy who has done well at ISU and probably took it probably beyond its potential. Never know how anyone will do when changing jobs but imo he was always a good option....sort of an Elko type (who PSU wanted but couldn't get).

I suppose he could keep Terry Smith on board too, if he doesn't follow JF to VT. If he can land the plane for a change, it would be a decent comeback for Kraft after a horrendous process.

I suppose if you make $7-10M a year is does not matter if you were the 15th choice…if Kraft wants to whip that into a “victory” then lol…he’s toast anyways…

Can you share noise sources? I searched X and came up with a few weak signals, but nothing that sounded legitimate.

EDIT- Some legitimate noise:

All the mainstream CFB media are reporting it now. It's just a matter of does Kraft land the plane given his recent track record lol.

All these years, from what I could tell the Big 3 jobs in the B10 (OSU, Michigan, PSU) are his dream destinations and what he would leave ISU for...and maybe a slightly lower rung of MSU/Wisconsin. I think he may have even been in the running for the UW job when Fisch got it. But the highest profile midwestern B10 jobs were always his dream from my recollection so now he has his opportunity for one.

I think he would have been a good option right from the start but you know the circuitous path Kraft ended up taking might be somewhat fortunate. I'm not so sure at the outset many PSU fans would've been as high on Campbell, even though IMO he was a very good candidate. Now after going through all the mumbo jumbo, they may have a better opinion of Campbell than they would have at the start. If it does end up being true, we'll see how it goes. I think he's been good at overperforming at the underdog school. Now can he pick it up a notch and recruit at a higher level where everything is at your fingertips.

I hope they make a huge offer and he turns them down. He has stability at ISU.

I’ve seen Matt Patricia and Tommy Rees as other names mention for PSU. After seeing what Patricia did with OSU’s defense, he seems formidable. Don’t know what Rees has done in the NFL, thought he was okay with Kelly and Saban in college but nothing eye popping imo.

Campbell would be a very solid hire for PSU. I think he is better than some of the earlier names mentioned for the job and don’t understand why he wasn’t targeted earlier. He has been happy at Iowa St but he has been there a long time and it seems they have hit a plateau. He is a very fundamental, no nonsense, no frills type guy who I think will fit well at PSU and in the B1G. There was a point in his career when he was getting some interest from NFL teams. To me, he is a younger, more friendly and accessible DAntonio or Ferentz type coach. If he can recruit on the Franklin level, they will be very formidable.

I had mentioned Robinson when he was potentially on the chopping block at Cuse. He got a minor demotion to co-DC.

Mentioned that above. I think they lost a 5 star but then I saw they got another 4/5 star
