Looks like you are right, Paul is listed in a hot board candidate list for the Beaver's next HC
Paul Chryst (Former HC, Wisconsin)

>On the other side of the experience coin is Chryst, who was also among the candidates for the OSU job last time around before the Beavers settled on Trent Bray. Don’t underestimate the power of a pre-established relationship in a process like this, especially for an OSU athletic department not known for making out-of-the-box hires.<

Personalty I think he'd be a good choice. Oregon State and Washington State are not close to being top tier jobs anymore and getting someone like Chryst would be a good move for the beaver program
I think they said he’s also friends with Mike Riley and he’s helping to advise in the search.

Good article on the last day of Brian Kelly at LSU. Takeaways- the fired AD was more involved in the day to day football operations that any other AD staffers had seen at other stops, Kelly was not much into recruiting, did not know the names of many of his players, and time had passed LSU by:

He just lacks the authenticity,” the first LSU staffer said. “And I don’t want to dance on his grave, like I see a lot of people doing, but you could almost tell that he cashed out here.”

The Tigers would come into 2025 with an $18 million roster that could — at least when it comes to the price tag — stack up with some of the best in the country.

“It’s not the old days — and when I say the old days, I mean like five years ago — where you could just load up on talent and have depth, you could win 70 percent of your games with your C-plus game,” the first LSU staffer said. “It’s like the NFL now. You’ve gotta hit on your evaluations, especially the big-money guys, your five-stars, you gotta hit there.

Coaching matters. Scheme matters. And where we missed here, is those guys that are really getting paid money, they have to want to play for you. Or else it’ll be transactional to them. And that matters when it comes to coming together as a team.

@Mikemarc -#CoachingMatters

I read that article and was also surprised on how much Woodward got involved with the staff. That’s not normal for an AD.

I heard in a pod that Woodward wanted to get rid of the OC after A&M and Kelly was willing to go along but also wanted to change some of Woodward’s guys and that became an impasse.

Keli ZInn was running 7 on 7 drills this week at practice. Is that too involved?

Thought it was weird/bad hire to begin with

According to Football Scoop Shula was making $3.5 mil
>Beamer parts with his offensive play-caller less than 11 months after naming Shula to the top offensive assistant post and awarding him a three-year deal worth approximately $3.5 million across its term. <

Expected after the UK loss yesterday, DJ Durkin will be the interim HC

He did better when he had call girl #s on his phone. "a concerning pattern" of similar calls dating back to shortly after he arrived in Oxford:[53] at least a dozen calls over 33 months,[8][9] often made while Freeze was traveling on business trips using Ole Miss' private plane.

Auburn did not provide enough "resources." 1-900-GOT-JUICE

Ahh, DJ Durkin, will restore integrity to the program, just like at Maryland where one member of the football team described being forced to overeat to the point of vomiting as a coach who had told him to gain weight sat with him; others spoke of being forced during team meetings to watch videos of “serial killers, drills entering eyeballs, and bloody scenes with animals eating animals.”

That means he was making just over 1M/yr

This was in the on3 newsletter I recived today
>Auburn hot board
Jimbo Fisher, former Texas A&M HC: The 2013 national champion has 128 career FBS wins and extensive SEC experience. After a year as an analyst, Fisher is eager to return to coaching. His track record with quarterbacks and recruiting pedigree make him an appealing veteran option.<

I’ve heard his name come up but I don’t expect that. Hugh Freeze was a coach with previous SEC experience known to be a qb and offensive guru and he couldn’t get the qbs or the offense right at Auburn. Fisher couldn’t get the offense right at A&M despite being an offensive coach so I don’t see them heading down the same path.

Same hot board had this coach and I think he's the one that will get the job
from same 0n3 Auburn hot board
>Jon Sumrall, Tulane: The former Troy coach has a 38-10 career record and deep ties to Alabama’s recruiting scene. Known for player development and balanced roster building through both the portal and high school ranks.<

Yes he’s a favorite for that one. Wherever he lands up we’ll see if the hot G5 coach this year ends up being good or another Herman, Frost, Fickell, Napier.

FFS, he had a Lax player playing in his first game at QB, and they were against the formidable UNC Tarheels. . . . Well at least the first part.
Fran is another who saw his star lose a lot of luster this year and Nunzio Campanile upward mobility in the coaching ranks hit a speed bump when Brown relived him his quarterbacks coaching position and moving Nunzio to an unnamed spot on the staff .Football Scoop said: "Mike Johnson will move from tight ends to quarterbacks and switch spots with Nunzio Campanile."
Looks like Campanile is the fall guy for Fran's QB problem ,once his starter went down and the backup was replaced with a true freshman noted for being a good Lax player .But repeatably was a pretty good HS QB

Passing stats of 4/18 for 39 yards, but they did rush for 108 yards against mighty UNC
You would have thought Stevie B, a former Lax player, would have had a better plan in place for a Lax player at QB! (for those that did not recognize--that was pure silly sarcasm).

Fran fired his passing game coordinator, some guy named White. Not sure if Nunz is a demotion or just moving people around?

KS, it might not be a demotion switching from one position coach spot to another one, but it does point to Nunz not making Orange back up QBs able to handle a starter's role effectively .
From Syracuse's website :
>Nunzio Campanile enters his third season with the Syracuse football program in 2025, and second as the Offensive Associate Head Coach/Quarterbacks Coach.<

Checking out Johnson on that site , it shows he has plenty of experience coaching QBs
So it might be a move to shake things up, but I feel it doesn't reflect well on Nunzio to be moved after
a QB's terrible outing and how badly the QB position looked, under him, after the starter went down

Was wondering how long PSU might wait for a potential candidate, looks like LSU will wait if it has to for someone they want. Mind you as long as the positions stay open there will be more scrutiny on the coaches still in the CFP.

Fantastic paywalled article linked (snippet quoted):

Cignetti’s success at Indiana has made life harder for a lot of his Big Ten peers. If he can transform a perennial doormat into the No. 2 team in the country in less than two years, why can’t Fickell get Wisconsin to the Pinstripe Bowl in Year 3? There’s no question which coach was the hotter name when those programs made their hires. A year after taking Cincinnati to the CFP, Fickell was a coach in high demand. Cignetti, a relative unknown, introduced himself by saying, “I win. Google me.”
Athletic directors are now Googling furiously, hoping to find a coach who can do for their program what Cignetti did for Indiana.

I've read that article and I agree with it. Have heard it multiple times on pod recently too.

"Fans (and admins for that matter) need to stop pining for names they've heard of and realize the next potential good coach is a name you haven't heard of..."

We've seen it here too, not just at big name schools. Big name schools of course have more pressure to "win the press conference" but lower status schools should be open to names like this. I've mentioned more obscure names and madhat posted that list of the overlooked kind of names and there's nothing wrong with them despite too many holding their noses at them.

Even before CC, I've always had the opinion a good coach can come from any pool (coordinator, G5 coach, retread, etc)...don't be biased. Make your best educated guess and then hope for the best. Some will work and some won't and that's reality for anyone. ]It's always a crap shoot whatever pool you hire from so realize that and act accordingly with regards to contracts etc... hiring from this pool also gives you more leverage in having more fair to both sides, amenable terms as well. As long as the candidate has a resume' worthy of the opportunity, a fan should be okay with it even if it's a name they might not prefer because you never know.
